Does this fix the issue that the last update caused with being unable to use separate subtitle files when watching AVIs?

I hate restarts. Stupid QuickTime. There goes my 22d uptime. :p

Almost as bad as IE!

Maybe QT's greatness is that it allows for such things as perian and flip4mac. This is, it provides plugin, extensible support for media playback integrated within the OS X environment.

more than can be said about Windows Media Player or whatever they're calling it these days.

windows live media ultimate home diamond edition player.

really?? i didn't know anyone was a fan of QT, let alone a huge fan. it's a strange program, really. all the really good functionalities only come with adding perian and flip4mac...and its exporting is so slow that it's practically useless in that function. and it's the source of a lot of security problems...what's so great about QT again?

What should a new Mac user do? Should they get the quicktime pro with these add ins or is there another tool that is recommended?

Yeh it's useless without perian and flip4mac, but once you do, it's great, especially with a Pro license. Much faster than any other 'lite' editing app I've used, and it's great for playback too, very speedy launch and hassle-free...

about time, qt7.4 crashes my vista 64 ie7 everytime I go to the apple support pages

Now wheres the network drive patch for itunes :(

Cool! It seems that 10.5.2 will be changing major things after all. Almost all apple's software have been updated throughout this and last week.
Exactly, all of iLife, iWork, QT and the Pro-framework updated in the last ten days, just preparing the ground for 10.5.2.

Plus, QuickTime is actually 2 things: QuickTime (the player application/browser plugin) and, more importantly, the framework which virtually all of Mac OS X and its applications (both 1st and 3rd party) use to play media.

Once you've installed codecs such as Perian and Flip4mac, the entire system (including applications) will support media files which use those codecs. For example, with F4M installed, it's possible to QuickLook .wmv files.

This is why I encourage new Mac users to install QT codecs, rather than rely on standalone players such as VLC. Sure, I have VLC installed for the odd file which QT/F4M/Perian can't handle (extremely rare -- usually a slightly corrupt file). But for 99.9% of uses, QT fits the bill.

Wtf!?

After installing this my 24" alu-imac has frozen 4 times!

What is going on!? My machine never has had any problems until I installed this update!

Is there anyway to downgrade/uninstall it?
