I don't have either one of those problems. You have something else going on there.

It's a unibody 2008 MacBook Pro and with two-finger scrolling I cannot scroll over a youtube video, I can if the cursor is next to the video. This happens in Safari only. I can scroll over it when I use the Magic Mouse instead of the trackpad.

Maybe it is one of the extensions, I noticed that "AutoPagerize" (Productivity) causes beach balls when I reload MR and try to scroll before it's done loading the page.

The site also shows what extensions you have already installed as shown in this screen cap.

IIRC:

http://safariadblock.com/

The developer said that there is a nasty bug in Safari that Apple knows about which can cause random crashes; has that been addressed yet? I'm interested in jumping to 5.0.1 and use some extensions but it is annoying if there are known bugs that haven't been fixed when it comes to extensions.

Can anyone confirm whether that bug has been fixed yet?

I have no idea if the bug he mentions is fixed, but I have been using this extensions since it was first released and do not have crashing issues.

No strange crashes with the adblocker yet?

Well he did say it was a random crash rather than something that consistently shows up all the time.

Wahoo! Nice to see the official extension gallery is ready. Kudos to the person(s) who kept the Tumblr gallery updated for the last several weeks, that was very helpful.

Are you telling me that I can't install separate toolbars for twitter, baseball and lots of other things, like the examples on Apple's extensions gallery page? That makes me feel sad :(

Suppose I might install some adblocking extensions or something but it's just not the same...

You most certainly CAN install extensions with toolbars that slow down your browser and your computer to a crawl. God knows my wife does. But extensions does not equal toolbars.

Ill stick with firefox/chrome until safari grows a larger library of extensions and proves itself over the other browsers. I migrated away from safari after it started to not load certain pages properly for me. I came to Chrome and Im loving it so far. Ill return to firefox when 4.0 comes out.

Finally I can dump the fugly firefox. The only extensions I've installed are 1. Auto Reload 2. Better Facebook 3. Coda Notes.

Other extensions I find useless for they mostly replicate what my iPhone already does.

When can we expect an update for Safari on iPad? Pre-iOS 4 would be nice.
There's a current subtle bug which breaks my practical justification for buying it in the first place (something causing a key button on an important web page to not work).

Excellent. Looks like I knew what I was talking about all along, but thanks for your help ;)

The only thing missing for me now is a toolbar RSS function like Live Bookmarks in Firefox, or RSS Live Links for Chrome.

Something I installed(?) let me see all 3 pages of this thread without having to click the page numbers at the bottom. Cool! Anyone know what?

EDIT: OK, I know. It was AutoPagerize. That in itself is worth the upgrade.

Installed the RottenTomatoes bar. If you click the toggle button it hides the search bar but when Safari next restarts it doesn't remember the state and shows it by default. Not good on my 13 inch screen. Would seem to be bad design? The link to the developer just takes you to RT...

Finally, Safari is more stable and provides more features than previous versions. I kind of wish they would update to Safari 5 on the iPhone and get the Reader feature at least. Kind of like an Instapaper type feature; It would make reading newspapers and articles a whole lot easier on the web browser.

Apple says: "Safari 5 has been a big hit, and user response to the innovative new Safari Reader has been fantastic,"

What BS!

People have been very unhappy with the performance of Safari 5, buggy and slow to open multiple tabs.

Search "downgrade safari 5 to 4" and you will find hundreds of posts by unhappy users.

I had to downgrade and am back to the excellent performance that I had before Safari 5 came out.

So the weather channel extension, it says I can see current weather and temp, but all I see is a big sqaure box. But when I click on it it goes to straight to the website. Am I doing something wrong?

If Safari extension updates can be installed automatically, why the hell can't iPhone apps?

I'm a happy Firefox user who uses 30 or so extensions, but I'm also on Windows (where Safari runs terribly and Firefox runs great- opposite of the respective OS X versions).

It'll be a while before the API is developed as much and the extensions are there - and, even then, due to the smaller install base of Safari vs. Chrome and Firefox, there will probably be a more limited variety.

Still, competition is always good, and it's nice to see that Apple took the time to develop an add-ons system for Safari. It's a very welcome feature.
