So if I just want to make a connection to my TV in order to use the speakers that are connected to the TV, what's the cheapest cable I could buy to accomplish this? Would I need to buy the complete Apple AV cable package?

That sounds like a bargain.

Then I remember my first iPod.

It came with a headphones, separate in-line remote, FW cable, dock, adapter, soft case, hard case and FW/USB adapter.

Nice job Apple. You've made the public forget how much extra you are screwing them for. :D

My first iPod came with all that stuff too. It was £400. Next iPod was cheaper because it didn't include those things that are non-essentials.

Any idea whether the new dock will fit a 3GS in a Speck Candyshell case?

I have the prior dock, which they state is unchanged. My iPhone 3GS and Speck Candyshell fit in the dock without using any of the adapters. Just fits on sides, little wiggle room front and back, so just use a little care when docking/undocking and it works great.

Aw too bad. I love my little wired keyboard. Hope it lasts a long time. Anything bigger is too big next to my A4 wacom intuos tablet and I absolutely hate wireless peripherals with their batteries. I don't care for 2 little wires on my desk if this means less maintenance. I've tried it and it's not for me.

I wonder if the Mac Pro shipped with the (now discontinued) small keyboard before. The Mac Pro page when I checked moments ago says that the box comes with the numpad keyboard.

I don't really see the point of a wireless keyboard, I mean you aren't really going to ever move it are you? Sure, it looks better, but is it worth having to replace batteries all the time (don't know how often though)? A wireless mouse is okay because the wire can be annoying, but even with a mouse it's a pain to replace the batteries.

Unless these devices lasted 6 months at least or even a year on batteries, I think the advantage isn't that big (even less with a keyboard).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Does it have an adapter that fits your iPhone with the bumper on? It's just silly to put it on and off the bumper when you dock your iPhone.

Ohhh Apple, you and your hate for wires. So only 2 keyboard combinations now, Full Sized Wired Keyboard and Bluetooth Semi Sized Keyboard.

It doesn't matter. Apple's keyboards and mice suck anyway - they just look nice, but they are no good input devices.

The biggest downside of the Apple mice is the lack of a PHYSICAL second mouse button, which you simply need when you play games: You actually need to be able to press the first and the second mouse button at the same time, and that's impossible with an Apple mouse.

Apple does not follow any international layout standards with their keyboards, and that plain and simple sucks. (Yes, I know the tools to change that, but that doesn't change the fact that I HAVE to change it manually.)

I also think that their physical design is not good for fast typing. Natural keyboards are the best choice when you're a fast ten fingers typist, and for the "raw" feeling, still nothing beats the good old IBM keyboards.

I disagree, I can type much faster on the thinner sized keys.

Mac Pro's have always shipped with the wired-extended version. (In addition to the numpad, it also has extra Fkeys (13-19) a full home/end/pg up/pg dn block, bigger arrow keys, and the full cmd/option/cntl set on both sides, instead of replacing one with Fn (Fn is by del and home). The numpad is also kinda special, it has = and clear keys instead of numlock and an oversized + key. Apple probably figures the developers and creative types who buy MPs want the extra keys.)

Also, to complement all those calls of an extended-wireless board, am I the only one who would buy an backlit-extended-wired Apple keyboard?

Finally, it was about time. This was the only product that still made use of the plastic remote

I previously posted -- the cheapest option seems to be the Apple Composite AV Cable (also available as the Apple Component AV Cable) -- both are now only $39 (down from $49) which is cheaper than the third-party solutions at Best Buy.

However, it is important to note that with the $10 drop in price, Apple no longer includes the USB Wall Power Adapter -- they previously included the iPad-style power adapter with these adapter cables.

I don't think the dock actually has the cables to hook video to the television.

My Mac Pro has a wired Apple aluminum keyboard with number pad on the side, and it is great. The only other feature I would like to have is lighted keys that would allow me to type in dim light so I don't need a separate light over the keyboard.

My complaint is the fact that the protective skin on the keyboard does not allow light touches to register. Often double letters won't show up, but I proof read what I type. The skin would be more of a problem if I were writing a novel. For longer sessions, I remove the skin, and then I have no trouble.

This product omission is baffling, annoying, and frankly embarrassing. Get with it, Apple. Wireless extended, please. Stat!

I'd order several right now if they offered it. As long as it has controls so I can force the backlight on or off regardless of what the sensors think.

First off, I too had been waiting for the unidock to get updated so at least the iP4 inserts were included and it has taken ridiculously long given when the phone came out. However, I did test with a display model at an Apple Store, and because the unidock has a white bottom, not just open guts, under the inserts, you can take an insert out and put the iP4 and older iPhones in the dock with a case on. Usually the issue with cases is that the dock connector doesn't complete the connection and seat as well as the adapter being only big enough for a naked unit. But you can take the adapter out and put the iPhone in in a Bumper or other case and it will work. BUT, it won't be locked into place, so you just have to be careful not to push too hard on it.

I think the price raise is bad. I was having a hard time talking myself into one at $49. I don't really need another usb block or icable. What I would rather see is a $29 unit with no remote etc, just the dock and inserts. I'd get 2, one for my iMac and one for my kitchen charging station, where I sync and charge my iP4 my wife's 3G, and our Nanos.

My iMac only has 3 USB ports. I want to free up as many as I can ... sure, I can buy a usb hub, but my imac is out on the kitchen counter, and I'm trying to minmize wires as much as I can. Because wires are ugly .

You can add a number pad to your apple wireless keyboard.

Dock sucks

I think the design of the "universal" Dock is lousy. Why doesn't it have a spring-loaded adjustable cavity? Why are useless, wasteful plastic adapters needed? Why doesn't it support the microphone and speaker output that's on the iPod touch and iPhone? As soon as I insert the phone into the Dock, my callers can no longer hear me.

While I think the idea of a Dock is great, I think the implementation of this one is very poor. Apple can do better. Let's see some real innovation!

Too late to vote with my dollars, since I had already purchased one online. Too much trouble to return it.

Hopefully this will make room for the wireless keyboard with numeric keypad. I'm not holding my breath, however.

What would be cool is if Apple make the Magic trackpad function as a numpad and make it able to attach to the side of the wireless keyboard :O

For me it would be
* Less clutter
* One extra powered USB port freed up on my machine
* More freedom

I completely understand and even agree with your points for many people, but for many of us, the wireless would be extremely nice, and worth the batteries, etc.
