So its ok to make 12 payments and then throw it away in favor of a newest a greatest device but 13 payments... whoa, that's just asking too much. That extra $30-40 is really pushing it.

It's not the $40 extra, it's the principle of it. If you make 12 payments and give it back, why make a 13th payment and still have to give it back?

Agree. If I had to make the 13th payment I would skip the upgrade. Even though I have a 7 Plus Gold 128 GB reserved, I just might not even show up at the Apple store, because it's the iPhone 8 that I'm most intrigued by.

Not true. I have the AUP plan. I get a "discount for access" of $25 as well. When you use the Apple plan, it's treated as if you're bringing your own unlocked device to use at AT&T. The $40 line fee is for those on contract.
