This is truly dirty of Apple. So am I in the twilight zone or did Apple not release the 12 Pro Max on Nov 6, 2020?? The reason why I’m Asking. I just pre-ordered the iPhone 13 Pro Max today, Sept. 17,2021 (yes 2 months early, but not my fault Apple pushed the release back) and just got an email showing I had to pay and extra 61.16 for and early upgrade fee!?? Why should I have to pay for an upgrade fee when Apple pushed back the 12 Pro Max Launch???

The crazy thing is. No one at Apple can answer this and the answer I get is some type of cop out robotic answer of you have to wait 12 months!!??

So your are telling me that those that waited for the 12 Pro Max will have to wait until November 2021 to get the new 13 Pro Max or pay an early upgrade fee?? That’s dirty business.
yep. just like the year that the phone came out a bit later.... I made extra monthly payments on my phone.... so I "overpaid" more than the 1/2 required to upgrade.

it's not dirty... it's part of the contract....

yes. we shouldn't have to pay it. the spirit of the program was to let folks get a new device on launch every year. while this might technically be citizens one's agreement, it's Apple's program. We expect better of Apple because we pay a premium for their products AND customer experience. But maybe this is the final excuse I've been looking for to bail on this problematic upgrade program. It was a great idea, but with the exception of last year, it has been mostly a fuster cluck and terrible customer experience.
the program is to allow you to get a phone YEARLY.... not necessarily on launch..... if you want the phone after 11 months... you pay the 12th payment.

good god the entitlement in this thread!

Your basically paying your last two payments or 1 in advance , or you can just wait til October but you still gonna have to pay that bill

Well sure it's a 24-month contract. 12 payments and return the phone, got it. However if the idea is to allow us to upgrade yearly, why hit us with the extra payment? Do I get to keep the phone an extra month? I don't think so.
but you ARE able to get a new phone in one year.... that's 12 months.... 12 payments. NO ONE said you are entitled to a new phone on launch. you can have a phone in one month from now without an extra payment... that's 12 months... contract fulfilled.

there's nothing nefarious going on here.

apple didn't purposely make the phones late last year... they couldn't get parts... the people making the damned phones were getting covid and couldn't work.

this year they are back on NORMAL schedule and released ALL FOUR together.

you want the phone EARLY you pay off your portion of the contract.

If apple wants to take that position it should change the marketing language so it’s not a yesly upgrade program
apple gets sued for far less so I expect this latest apple bullsh%it is no exception
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

but it IS a YEARLY upgrade... you pay TWELVE months... ONE YEAR.... you get a phone.

it is not a "launch day" plan. it's a YEARLY plan

That's the law in some states, though (e.g. California). Have to pay sales tax on the full, unsubsidized price of the phone.
that ALWAYS irritated me to NO END!

I can buy a car at a discounted price an only pay tax on the price I actually pay...

I can buy clothes or other electronics or whatever else that is discounted or on sale and only pay tax on the price "I" pay... but with phones the lovely KOMMIEFORNIA has to get their hands on more of my hard earned money...

UGH!

In most cases you pay the sales tax on the full amount of any purchase. When take a loan for new car you pay sales tax on the full amount. If you decide to trade in early and buy a new car you still have to pay the sales tax on the new car as well. I’ve never heard of a car dealership giving back extra sales tax on when you trade in early. Seems pretty standard to me. The IUP is more like a no interest credit card than a loan where charge the full amount and make payments to pay off the the charge.
but you only pay for the price of the car you actually pay. you don't pay on the MSRP like you have to with a phone.

with phone... for whatever reason... kommiefornia thinks, regardless of if you actually pay a lower price... you have to pay tax on the MSRP of that phone.

Something else that some people probably don’t really think about is not everyone on the iUP goes straight to the top of the line phone. Consider the people who can only budget for an XR, then after 12 month’s worth of payments they decide to upgrade to a 13 mini. Then 12 months later they decide they want a bigger phone and get the 13 or whatever when the 14 comes out.

Point is there are many people who use the iUP and don’t necessarily want to get the top end latest and greatest every year. The terms of the program benefit them just as well.

The whole point of the program is to let Apple's best customers get the new phones when they come out each year. That's how they marketing it.

Link to that marketing? Here's what they have on their website:

I don't see anything about getting a new iPhone "when they come out" (i.e. "launch day"). It simply says get a new iPhone every year (i.e. after you've made 12 payments). As others have said, launch day can vary.

Seems like the "I have to have it NOW" mindset has hit the brick wall of reality.

Exactly. People are wanting *a* new iPhone to be *the* new iPhone, when that never was implied.

I think everyone also forgets that IUP is interest free… if you charged the phone to a normal credit card or took out a normal loan you would be paying anywhere from 5% to 20% interest. So I think it kind of balances out in the end. I think IUP is fair and makes things pretty simple when getting a new phone every year
I would never put a phone on a credit bearing card that I wasn't going to pay off the balance monthly.

The program is that you agree to pay 12 payments toward the phone and you can have it, each new release. You don’t get to cut the payments short - you have the newest iPhone all 12 months of the year with this plan

if this was a new phone on launch program... it would only be available in September.... but since it's an every 12 months program.... you are free to join in October or November or December or January or February or march or April or May or June or July or August.

It's never been a yearly RELEASE day program! NEVER!

I understand it lol. Gotta pay to play. Let me keep the phone for the month I'm paying for though. Fair enough?

Apple refunded the fee

Love that I triggered mostly everyone but when it comes to anything personal for them. They would have some type of justification for their reason. Apple refunded the fee through citizen one. They said they were the ones to move the release date last year and if those that want to upgrade on launch day.

but oh well. I have nothing to prove here. I posted to really just share and honestly the hype of triggering the internet patrol police, made it better. Thanks lol

1) you CAN keep the phone for a month. you wait and order after you've paid your contracted agreement amount.

2) there's a huge difference in whining about a CONTRACT that states UP FRONT 12 payments to upgrade and paying tax on an MSRP price when NO OTHER PRODUCT in this kommie state requires it. You buy a car on sale... you pay tax on the sale price. you buy a phone case on sale... you pay tax on the sale price. AND there are VERY FEW states that do this asinine way of charging on an MRSP of a phone.

so we're triggered because we pointed out what's in your contract?

and just like other years with apple order issues... you call and whine and get the "right" apple rep.... you get what you want.

Nope didn’t whine. Sorry not a lefty. Actually just asked and it got escalated without asking for it to be and got a call back saying it was refunded. Easy peasy. Have a good one ☺️

Apple refunded the fee
Who did you call to get to happen. Essentially i was double charged the 12th payment. I paid the 57 to apple for the early upgrade on the 17th (which would have been the 12th payment), and then Citizens took my 12th payment as well on September 22nd. Citizens isn't showing an overpayment, and apple has told me they are requesting a refund but can't tell me where or when i'm going to get the refund. They are basically telling me to talk to Citizens but when i do Citizens is like nope we don't see anything in our system even though the loan balance clearly shows there have been 13 payments made.

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’m sorry. All I did was make one call to apple and politely asked them about the upgrade. They put me on hold and then came back and had a senior advisor on the line that took my info and then someone else called me back higher than the senior advisor and said it would be refunded. Not sure that helps. Hope it does though
