I really wish you could do the upgrade program without going into the store. I'm two hours and 10 minutes away from the nearest Apple Store, and my wife's name is on our Verizon account. Because of that, she has to be with me to apply for the loan, and therefore we both need to drive four and a half hours for me to get my new phone. I had hoped they'd make it an online option this year, but doesn't appear that will be the case.

Same issue, spent four hours on phone with apple today, like 12 different reps, they couldn't figure it out for me.

I had this issue a few weeks ago. I went to the apple store as directed and they had to get some higher ups to fix the issue as the swapped phone wasn't linked to my apple care or anything. After 24 hours, it was all resolved. I did this in anticipation of possible issues with preordering.

I foresee a lot of pissed off IUP participants starting around 12:06 AM PST.

I am doing the AUP online tonight for pre-order. What I am now afraid of is (with the help of an Apple chat rep), I changed my billing address with AT&T so that the phone can be shipped to a family members house on launch day. I will be out of town.

Now i am worried that it will conflict with my AUP since my payment info obviously will have a different billing address. Common sense would tell me that it shouldn't matter....Citizens Bank/my payment info shouldn't conflict with whatever address AT&T has for me?!!! Ugh hope I am right and the pre-order won't have a snag!

If you can actually do it online, just change the address through Apple and you will be fine.

what higher ups? managers at the store? i am going to me screwed tonight
The genius had to find some one in the back who apparently never interfaces with actual customers, and they had to change the linked info and send a ticket. However they assured me that if this was a problem come preorder time, it would be straightened out in store, as they could see my purchase under the upgrade program and that it was swapped. They said that early on, if you had a swap, they didn't have a proper way to do it.

I'm going to do this when I get the phone tonight, will probably add in Applecare as well. I've managed to shatter 1 iPhone per generation that I've bought so its somewhat of use to me I suppose. I figure I'll get that and go with the leather Apple case instead of a huge bulky Otterbox again, live a little.

You can do it online, yes! I contacted an Apple rep and she stated we can. My only fear was that I changed my address with the carrier only in order for it to be shipped to my sisters house. So once pre-orders go live, I hope there isn't a snag! My address with Apple and my CC is of course my home address. I think what the rep was saying is when buying from Apple online, they will ship to the address the carrier has. Hopefully it all works :)

Question... I have an iPhone 6 that I bought about 16 months ago from Verizon. That was with a 2 year contract. I'm not eligible for an upgrade through Verizon as it's not been two years. But, if I guy the iPhone 7 from Apple via the Apple Upgrade program that wouldn't cause me to have to pay some sort of early termination fee or something right as I'm not trying to get another subsidized phone from Apple, just switching to a new phone? Or am I wrong?

They will ship to the address Apple has, so make sure you have it correct where you want the phone sent before you finish.

Well Apple has my home address which matches my CC/debit card home address. Oh gosh I hope I don't screw this up! I don't even know what to do now!

My payment info (my CC for the program) address is my home.

Just look for shipping address and you will be fine.

Pretty sure the web said you could order online and reserve for pickup at an Apple Store only. I don't think you can do the upgrade program and have the phone shipped. I hope I'm wrong though.

The IUP (AUP)...whatever it is.....can be done online for NEW customers. I confirmed this with Apple. If you were part of the program last year and want to upgrade, then you have to make the reservation to pick-up in store. That's because they have to check your iPhone that you are returning.

I signed up for the IUP last year but paid off the loan and sold the phone. So this year I am starting over.....therefore it can be done online.

Do you know doing it online will add more time during checkout process? I mean, will they complete the credit check during checkout?

Yeah, that's the boat I'm in. I'm already in the program.

My initial upgrade program swap went very smoothly. I expect this first in-program trade to be equally easy. Last year I was in and out of the store on launch day in 15 minutes. No line. No waiting.

But what about the part regarding showing your 2 forms of ID to a representative? I understand that technically the credit check can be done online, but I have doubts that the entire process with citizen's bank can be completed online tonight.

Well nobody knows for sure....but over the years I've applied for more than one loan etc online where a credit check is done instantly etc. I see no reason why this isn't the same? So much stuff is online now.....

I'm interested in the upgrade program but the hard inquiry is kind of a turn off.

My credit isn't great so I am sure I would qualify anyways. :(

I am gonna buy it outright... I don't want to go through the hassle of anything when the 10th anniversary phone shows up. :)

Hopefully it can be done online, I have heard you can and you can''t from apple reps. We will soon find out.
