Fools and their money, as the saying goes. And deep within Apple, with every meager sale, someone giggles a little, right up until the point that it’s cancelled and forgotten.

Too big/heavy/expensive for me -- but for anyone who finds themselves with 30 minutes to kill, highly recommend the demo at the Apple Store. I thought it was really cool and immersive, and the UI felt very familiar to me as an iOS/macOS user.

This definitely isn’t the version I would ever consider owning, but I’m actually pretty excited to see a cheaper/lighter version at some point, hopefully. I could see myself using an Apple AR device regularly in some settings if it was more accessible and more comfortable to use.

Apple really messed up on this.  Vision Pro would have caught on if it wasn't so highly priced. If they want to make it a success, Apple should concentrate on reducing the price and make it lighter. This "Air" version may cut down on the price, but I suspect cut down on features as well, so people may still not be interest in it. If Apple are not concentrating on glasses, a little late to the party but also wouldn't that kill Vision Pro even more?

I can count on one hand how many time I've seen these. And half of those times were while I was in an Apple Store.
I'm not sure that I even need one hand to count the times - I think it's been zero times.

I even walked into an Apple Store to ask about a demo of it. They signed me up for a demo where I'd need to return 30 minutes later. I forgot and never showed up for it. I didn't care - I was just killing time at the mall and something else (lunch?) came up.

I think VR/the metaverse has enormous potential. I think it could be absolutely vital for business and something companies would pay $10K+/employee for, if it served as a replacement for travel expenses. It should be the ultimate way to replace calling. And Apple dropped this so hard with zero compelling software for it - just launched a product into the world with a stratospheric price and no killer app.

2 years… whoa! It seems like both a fairly recent product intro, and a long time ago, simultaneously.

I feel like this product may be more influential – albeit in a slow-burn way – than it comes across in discussion among us here on MR. Particularly in the long-term industry-wide, but also in the direction of Apple's evolution of the personal computer.

It's also highly likely that much of Apple's research and development for spatial computing products filters into other Apple products – either current or yet to be revealed. So the true value of this product can't be quantified by anecdotes of returns or being put in a drawer.

The Vision Pro, taken solely as a media consumption device, is really beyond incredible. It really is something to behold. My friend let me watch about an hour of the F1 movie on it recently and it is an experience that few could imagine. It’s literally like you are there in the movie as the movie encompasses your entire vision.

The problem is the price. It’s just too expensive to be used as a television. Especially when you can get an 4k OLED 77 inch TV for almost half the price in some cases.

I still think for people who value the videophile niche and of course can stomach the price it can be a truly extraordinary experience

This shows what Apple needs to do. Support devs more.
Why there is no Youtube? Why there are no more games or apps on this?

I saw a person in an Apple Store trying one on. That's the only one I've ever seen.

Since I wear glasses I'd have to contact them ahead of time just to try it on (while being able to see anything). It would then cost almost $4k if I bought one. No thanks.

No, it isn't. From a gaming standpoint yes the Meta Quest is much better. But for everything else, the Vision Pro is miles ahead of the Quest, and its not really close and I say that as someone who's owned both.
For what use cases though?

As a giant screen for movies/game streaming/my PC it does a fine job with native apps for most things. Resolution is as sharp as my eyes can see and 360 content looks great. Passthrough Res is as high as I need.

I have cool work apps that let me physically walk through a 1:1 Architectural model with other users who also have the headset with everything synced between us.

And it has Tetris Effect which by itself almost justifies the entire existence of VR platforms.

Vision Pro is better at being a giant pin-sharp display for a Mac but I struggle to think of much else it's genuinely better at or that at the very least justifies the increased cost.

I only tried one when it launched but I didn’t have to let them know anything. They take your glasses, send a laser through it in this machine, that gives them your prescription and then they put the right inserts in for you. It’s pretty cool.

I got one used a few months ago. I use it all the time for Mac virtual display and for movies.
They need to get the weight down (and the cost of course) the new head strap helps a little.
More virtual environments would be nice too.

While I thought it would take time to become really mainstream, the lack of a cheaper version and decent app ecosystem 2 years out is pretty surprising. Seems like billions of R&D down the drain.

Makes me think of those headstones you see in cemeteries and do a double take because the dates are so close together (2024-2026 for example). Even sadder the child was so unwanted it couldn't even be sold.

I remember watching the reveal and thinking 'well that's it, it's the end of the world. Everyone's just going to be wrapped up their little headsets...'

I'm so glad it didn't come to fruition.

If nothing else it made Meta up their game but keep things a fraction of the cost. The Quest 3 is 95% as good as a Vision Pro with 500% better games at only 15% of the cost.
says the person who never put Apple Vision Pro on.

It will most probably function as a dev machine for whatever glasses come out next year. Hard to imagine that the glasses will run something other than a light version of VisionOS.
So then why didn’t they just keep it internal as a dev machine? lol you’re not supposed to release a large scale product and claim it’s the future of computing if you’re just beta testing an idea
