Got one this past Christmas and easily the most disappointing Apple product I’ve ever experienced.

It’s truly fascinating how Apple missed the mark so badly with the Vision Pro - after only using it a single time it was clear that this product was not the future in computing…

Nearly everything feels gimmicky, clunky, or cumbersome.

Apple should have cancelled this product like they did the Apple Car, Apple TV (actual physical TV hardware), AirPower… and put all of their resources into a product that so clearly is the future… AR/VR glasses.

Also, should add - no surprise but returned mine and don’t miss it one bit.

A product designed without any clear purpose basically which has been Apple's mantra with all their previous products. Apple is usually less about whether something is possible and more about creating great experiences and use cases, and they completely missed the mark with this horribly expensive (and heavy) tech demo.

I remember Tim Cook being asked what he uses his for in the run up to launch and the best he could come up with was watching Ted Lasso. You just knew it would be a flop at that point.

If nothing else it made Meta up their game but keep things a fraction of the cost. The Quest 3 is 95% as good as a Vision Pro with 500% better games at only 15% of the cost.
While that’s not quite true, it’s certainly a cost/benefit that is simply not there.

Apple rushed to market without revolutionary tech that is likely not available until 2029.

Many inside Apple were concerned about releasing a half-baked product.

The good news is that developers have the device and are learning how to use it, so a consumer version by 2029 should hopefully be well developed.

All they had to do was launch Logic Pro for Vision Pro and I would’ve found a way to make it work. Absent that? Insanity. The only worthwhile experience was the meditative atmosphere simulator, I truly wish I could have these just for that, but even I’m not foolish enough to drop $3500 on that experience, amazing as it was. I’m hoping one day I get to geek out at the horror that is sitting on one of Jupiter’s (or was it Saturn’s?) moons on this lovely but overly expensive and cumbersome device…

I hope they come back to the Vision Pro and release a new version. I use mine every day.

It's expensive, but they can make it less expensive. It's heavy, but they can make it lighter. The first generation iPad cost $499 and weighed 1.5 pounds (about the same as AVP). The current iPad starts at $349 (I paid $299) and weighs a little over 1 pound. And of course it is 15 years more advanced.

I agree.

Since the VP came out Meta have pulled out all the stops to at least try to emulate as many of the VP's 'unique' features and software functionality.
They have made significant leaps forward when it comes to multi tasking, window placement, virtual desktops, spatial picture viewing etc etc.

Im sure the VP is a great device but it cant be seen out of context and unfortunately a price tag that the vast majority cannot afford is not going to gain mass market appeal.

Add to that the Quest 3's library of games and inclusion of controllers... id argue its a better value proposition by far.

I think they sold more Ceramic Apple Watches than Apple Vision Pros.

I don't think Vision Pro is half-baked at all. It is a very good high-end headset. Its real problem was in Apple's confused marketing which priced it as a Mac Pro but tried to sell it like an iPhone. They should have aimed at campuses and corporations first. Sadly for Apple the Quest is 'nearly good enough' for most academic uses and a fraction of the cost.
