I have one but would not buy it again if I knew then what I know now.

That's the main problem with some people - I have the privilege to know what everyone knows

I kept past the 14 day return period hoping there would be some decent pace of new apps, content and features. But almost nothing has come.

Yes - it's a very early stage of this product - it was the same with the first Apple TV and ever since it has just become better and better

Apple has failed wildly in being prepared to support its hardware capabilities with a reasonable level of content.

No - it's your expectation that does not match the pace of the progress taking place - how long did it take to make WiFi a success? I've had WiFi in my LapTop years before any decent solution was in a realistic financial reach - drove to my next airport to test out WiFi in my Ti Book 450 back then - was amazing!!

No one new should be buying this thing.

Let the existing US buyers suffer the pains of getting this technology off the ground.

You know - not everyone will suffer having a realistic expectation - I ordered mine today and I expect nothing in APPs and being able to enjoy some content and an ever growing number of additional APPs

There might be never again a standalone version - rumor has it that the non "PRO" version will heavily rely on the iPhone - that's a huge step backwards IMHO

The Apple TV is a (relatively) low-cost product that fills a need, streaming services. Better and better is relative. I haven't been able to tell much of any difference since I bought the HD several years ago.

WiFi filled a need, to disconnect you from the wall when networking, so of course it took off. Networking was popular for years before Wifi was. The Vision Pro fills no such need. It's useful for isolated content consumption and not much else. The VisionPro, as far as I'm concerned, is regression, not progression. I don't want to sit in my own world wearing weird goggles and watching movies by myself.

Yes I've used it. No, I wouldn't buy it.

The AVP is relatively low-cost for what it does and fills a need, steaming services and a large 8 k display at half hight

Yes - it was introduced roughly 10 years before Apple did the first WiFi in their Ti books ;-)

For you - maybe - for me it's a game changer having a half 8 k display with me - I am traveling a lot and every little peace of better work environment makes a lot of sense to me.

Luckily we have choices - it is interesting though that many want to convince others that the price is an issue - I sense a pattern here that many are jaleous ?

For me it's a sensible investment and I am looking extremely positive forward to it - in case it does not meet your needs it's obviously no offering for you - not more not less and I would never tell people what's not the right product for them - I only care about my needs.

Fun fact - when I bought my Porsche my colleagues at work had a similar reaction to it

The 4th Gen? The one that was released 8 years after the first one?

That ‘need’ didn’t exist in 2007 which is why it came with a hard drive for downloads. Good parallel with Vision Pro perhaps. Its need is perhaps not yet on our radars but is coming…

I received a free AVP in Germany about a month ago as a developer to test our app from my Company. I was expecting to be blown away, similar to the first time I switched from a Nokia phone to an iPhone back in the day, but that wasn't the case unfortunately.

I also own a Quest 3, which was my first VR experience and initially wowed me. However, being familiar with VR set my expectations very high for the 4k (Euro) AVP.

Watching movies does look much better on the AVP, which is expected. Part of my frustration with the Quest is the lack of native media apps (like Disney+), leaving me stuck with 720p resolutions.

Eye tracking on the AVP is nice but can be frustrating. I'm so used to the Quest's controls that I miss the feedback and holding "controls" in my hand. It's also annoying that every guest has to redo the eye setup in guest mode unless I'm missing something.

In terms of navigation, I prefer the Quest's proper dock at the bottom over the AVP's floating elements, which behave differently depending on the context. For example, the Control Center appears only by looking up, which often doesn't work well, especially in apps like Disney+ (at least for me).

Many apps on the AVP feel gimmicky, like demo videos you'd see in a store. While cute, they're not something I would rewatch often.

One of my biggest disappointments, considering the price, is the pass-through feature. I expected it to be much better, but it hardly surpasses the Quest's latest update (at least in my Apartment settings). For instance, my iPhone screen flickers, and the digits on my AC timer move around as if I'm drunk. I don't know, I expected more improvement over a 300 EUR device.

The whole "see your eye" thingy (forgot its name) is completely unnecessary to me. They could just remove it to save money on the next version for all I care. In fact, release a 1k version that only supports media consumption and we have a deal!

Oh, and I'm not sure if attaching the cushion with a magnet was the best idea. One wrong move and you could easily damage the device. It feels really delicate, especially when handing it over to a guest. You have to be very specific about how they should hold it when taking it off to avoid any issues.

To conclude, this isn't a "Pro" Quest post. I hardly use either device now. There's a subconscious reluctance to put it on, and once I do, I use it for a while, but the process feels like a drag. Call it lazy.

They literally called it EyeSight and still no one remembers or likes it. Completely agree, that's got to be the first thing on the chopping block. What a massive waste of effort.

I'm not price sensitive and the cost is fine for the hardware. I can't find a use for it even at $499.00.

The problem is that it needs to be the right product for a many popular or the App makers are not going to get on board. It's currently pretty limited, app wise, and not growing at anywhere near where some people thought it would. My wife and I both work in high-paying fields (neither are in tech, whatsoever) and absolutely no one is interested in it. Most haven't even heard of it.

People were using WiFi for years before it was built in to Mac or PC. When I was in college you couldn't find a laptop with it built-in without spending $5k+, so everyone had PCMCIA wifi cards. The campus library even had them on loan.

No one cares about your ability to buy a Porsche. I can afford a Porsche, but drive a VW... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unless Apple changes its attitude toward developers, it may never be a hit.

They launched it at the absolute bottom of their developer relations curve. They've spent years telling developers to jump through arbitrary hoops for the privilege of writing software for their platform. Then they release a new platform and are genuinely shocked when developers don't want to jump through hoops for it.

I will be genuinely shocked if there is a reasonable selection of truly useful apps by next February. Or even the one after that.

Sorry, you lost me at Meta. I love tech, but not enough to adopt a product built by Meta.
Oh, me too - im not a fan....

... but that attitude is not enough to cause me to 'cut off my nose to spite my face' as the phrase goes.

Who cares?!

If you are in the market for VR/AR then I just dont see the justification for 7x the price from Apple. We all know about the Apple tax - but the VP is remarkably expensive for its use cases.
MQ3 achieves pretty much everything the VP does and certainly shouldn't be dismissed just because of the label on the box if you are in the market for an AR/VR headset.

exactly - from my perspective a bargain - a glimpse into the future like the original Apple TV 160 GB - it cost me a fortune compare to my income that time and I regretted it not a single second - compare to my income back in the day it was an even higher investment back then.

It is amazing how many know that it does not suit others' needs 🤣

instant buy 2 PM CET for me in Germany - have been waiting for it for a year now 🙃

Can't understand the mixed reports - it is clearly what it is and it serves no purpose other than being an Apple Vision Pro.

The eco system is not fully evolved and the next one is rumored to be based on an iPhone and has no won SoS like the M2 to do the demanded tasks.

In case one is interested in Europe to get one the time is now - can't wait to get mine :)

As far as price go - just got a Max Le Verrier Ouganda sculpture from 1930 this week and it's beautiful as a sculpture - it does not even support any other purpose than being beautiful and the price is mainly derived from the fact that's its an original from the artist himself that time.

Great times we're living in

I'm not sure comparing it to a sculpture in terms of actual value is exactly the comparison Apple's marketing department would prefer, but whatever makes you happy.

This is awesome news, now people in those countries can also experience the joy and wonder of the Apple Vision Pro.

(for like two weeks, until the novelty wears off and they just leave it on a shelf somewhere for the next few months 🤪)

Haha, indeed. I have a buddy with one and he says he hasn't turned it on since the middle of May.

Good luck with the VP launch on the asian market! I think it’s where they will have the best sales, specially in Japan.

Also China is a HUGE market that can determine the future of the product.

I would not buy this if apple says there will not possibly be a version 2. scary. alot of money.

I think you’ve missed his point about the original Apple TV.
The original, very first generation Apple TV, introduced in 2006 and released in 2007, was totally different than what we have now.
On day one, it almost exclusively relied on content you already had purchased and downloaded to your Mac. It was basically an iPod for TV, and everything that came with that at the time, including having to synchronize it with a computer.
It was also launched with a $299 starting price, which would be around $450 today.
It was basically a complete failure, and Jobs admitted that at the Macworld expo in 2008.
He tried to re-orient the device to focus on movie rentals instead, and the price was dropped down to $229,but the damage had already been done and the first generation Apple TV had pretty much already been declared a failure.

When the Apple TV was re-launched as the second generation in 2010, they took a completely different approach.
All streaming all the time, basically no local storage, for $99.
Again, this was four years after the introduction of the first generation.

So back to that users original point, it took four years, two price-cuts (The second generation was literally 1/3 the price of the first) and two complete pivots, first to rentals and then to streaming, before the product became a success.

I remember the original Apple TV. I picked up one at a thrift store a few years later for $5 and re-sold it on eBay for almost $100.

As far as the Apple TV being a success, I guess that it is..? I'm the only person I know with an Apple TV, and have never met anyone else with one. 90% of people use their built-in streaming apps, or have a Roku or Fire stick, even people with full Apple household like my brother. My Apple TV 4K is our home office and mostly acts as a home hub, but the majority of our streaming happens on the Rokus in the living room or in the workout/play room.

If the Apple Vision Pro hangs on in any fashion, it's going to be as niche as the Mac Pro.

I have no idea how successful it actually is, but it’s successful enough to get updated on a semi regular basis.
Apple seems to think of it success in similar terms as they do the iPad mini, clearly not a flagship product, but sells enough to keep around.

but the sculpture will at least keep its value while the AVP will be nearly worthless in 1 or 2 years

must admit - I also just ordered one.

With the option to send it back, if I don't like it, it is just like a *long* demo session in the app-store.

btw - up to now no shifts in the delivery date - I guess the demand is still not flooding the App-Store :)
