I'm not price sensitive and the cost is fine for the hardware. I can't find a use for it even at $499.00.

The problem is that it needs to be the right product for a many popular or the App makers are not going to get on board. It's currently pretty limited, app wise, and not growing at anywhere near where some people thought it would. My wife and I both work in high-paying fields (neither are in tech, whatsoever) and absolutely no one is interested in it. Most haven't even heard of it.

People were using WiFi for years before it was built in to Mac or PC. When I was in college you couldn't find a laptop with it built-in without spending $5k+, so everyone had PCMCIA wifi cards. The campus library even had them on loan.

No one cares about your ability to buy a Porsche. I can afford a Porsche, but drive a VW... 🤷🏻‍♂️
technically a Porsche is a VW (as is a Bugatti) ;)

That's the main problem with some people - I have the privilege to know what everyone knows

Yes - it's a very early stage of this product - it was the same with the first Apple TV and ever since it has just become better and better

No - it's your expectation that does not match the pace of the progress taking place - how long did it take to make WiFi a success? I've had WiFi in my LapTop years before any decent solution was in a realistic financial reach - drove to my next airport to test out WiFi in my Ti Book 450 back then - was amazing!!

You know - not everyone will suffer having a realistic expectation - I ordered mine today and I expect nothing in APPs and being able to enjoy some content and an ever growing number of additional APPs

There might be never again a standalone version - rumor has it that the non "PRO" version will heavily rely on the iPhone - that's a huge step backwards IMHO
not sure about that last point - being tethered to an iPhone might not be such a bad thing (at least while the technology matures).

Every Vision(Pro) user will likely have an iPhone (so no restriction in market size).
It allows to offload some weight off your head, it will provide you with yearly computing power upgrades, wireless connectivity out of the box - not the worst compromise in my view. They could use a thunderbolt, USB-4 port on a future iPhone for fast wired connectivity.

I received a free AVP in Germany about a month ago as a developer to test our app from my Company. I was expecting to be blown away, similar to the first time I switched from a Nokia phone to an iPhone back in the day, but that wasn't the case unfortunately.

I also own a Quest 3, which was my first VR experience and initially wowed me. However, being familiar with VR set my expectations very high for the 4k (Euro) AVP.

Watching movies does look much better on the AVP, which is expected. Part of my frustration with the Quest is the lack of native media apps (like Disney+), leaving me stuck with 720p resolutions.

Eye tracking on the AVP is nice but can be frustrating. I'm so used to the Quest's controls that I miss the feedback and holding "controls" in my hand. It's also annoying that every guest has to redo the eye setup in guest mode unless I'm missing something.

In terms of navigation, I prefer the Quest's proper dock at the bottom over the AVP's floating elements, which behave differently depending on the context. For example, the Control Center appears only by looking up, which often doesn't work well, especially in apps like Disney+ (at least for me).

Many apps on the AVP feel gimmicky, like demo videos you'd see in a store. While cute, they're not something I would rewatch often.

One of my biggest disappointments, considering the price, is the pass-through feature. I expected it to be much better, but it hardly surpasses the Quest's latest update (at least in my Apartment settings). For instance, my iPhone screen flickers, and the digits on my AC timer move around as if I'm drunk. I don't know, I expected more improvement over a 300 EUR device.

The whole "see your eye" thingy (forgot its name) is completely unnecessary to me. They could just remove it to save money on the next version for all I care. In fact, release a 1k version that only supports media consumption and we have a deal!

Oh, and I'm not sure if attaching the cushion with a magnet was the best idea. One wrong move and you could easily damage the device. It feels really delicate, especially when handing it over to a guest. You have to be very specific about how they should hold it when taking it off to avoid any issues.

To conclude, this isn't a "Pro" Quest post. I hardly use either device now. There's a subconscious reluctance to put it on, and once I do, I use it for a while, but the process feels like a drag. Call it lazy.
interesting - they should find a way to fix that screen looking issue at least for Apple Devices.
Very interested to make my own experiences with the VisionPro.

I am pleased that others in countries other than the United States will be able to enjoy the Apple Vision Pro. I absolutely love mine, and use it hours each day. It is increased my productivity dramatically. It was well worth the price paid.

must admit - I also just ordered one.

With the option to send it back, if I don't like it, it is just like a *long* demo session in the app-store.
I have no intention to send it back - it will be in my business luggage for long distance traveling and once a smaller and lighter version will be available I am happy to have a travel and a home version.

Many seem to be completely uninspired to say the least

uh, so how would you define “overpriced” then? The overwhelming majority of people feel it’s overpriced

The term overpriced is subjective.
Personally I think paying $6 for a bud light is over priced but someone could say the same bout me ordering a shot of Jameson for $10

Most android flagships are over priced in my opinion and over hyped but again. Subjective.

people say iPhones are over priced for what they offer or according to android zealots, don’t offer. Subjective.

I enjoyed it when I had one but I returned it simply because a nearly $4k purchase wasn’t ideal and had ro be smart since I graduated grad school and I’m moving

Makes totally sense - we all must set priorities - € 5 k is fully within my toy budget for this year - spent double of that last year for a vacation in West Canada - that was a total waste of money IMHO

exactly - from my perspective a bargain - a glimpse into the future like the original Apple TV 160 GB - it cost me a fortune compare to my income that time and I regretted it not a single second - compare to my income back in the day it was an even higher investment back then.

It is amazing how many know that it does not suit others' needs 🤣

You nailed it. For me it was worth every penny. It is a glimpse into the future of computing and yes, it’s got a high price tag for a consumer device, but whether or not the price is worth the cost is up to each individual and very much in the eye of the beholder. Not all shade thrown it’s way boils down to the cost and the clearly bruised egos of some who are butt hurt that they can’t go buy one off the shelf but there’s quite a bit of that floating around.

It’s no different than which vehicle you drive. I don’t need to drive around in a $75,000 truck like quite a few guys I know. I don’t want one and I don’t need one. Nobody I know who has one actually needs one except for a couple of friends, one who drives a truck provided by his employer and another who is self-employed and need theirs for their job. My Jeep works just fine for me. I bought it in 2018 and it’s been paid off for a couple of years. As little as I drive it I’ll have it for 10 years. If I choose to spend the difference on an AVP and a few other things who cares? Life is all about choices.

Cushion with magnet: bad idea
The device is not too fragile; just don’t drop it or force it to bend.
Guest mode now remembers guests’ settings in VisionOS 2.0
See-through is much better in VisionOS 2.0.
The AVP could be as gimmicky as you allow it to be, or it could be a very useful productivity tool. That depends on the user.

Quest vs AVP = Toy truck vs Real truck

I would love to get one in the future but it's a little outside my budget at the moment. However I do think it needs better app support and more portability. Vision Pro was probably released 5 to 10 years too early.

some apple stores need to check on their employee's attitude. i went to test one of this out and was 5 mins late to my appointment and they refused to let me try it. the store manager wouldn't even talk to me directly even tho he was standing 6 feet away from, he kept sending an employee back and forth to relay messages between us.

the store was also empty and the rest of the employees were just chatting. so i never tried the headset, i was looking forward to it, but they made it too hard to even look at it.

Honestly... buy a Meta Quest 3.

Not only is is more than comparable to the VP, at a fraction of the price...

But Meta have been pulling out all the stops since the VP launched to 'copy' some of the more uniques aspects of the VP....

As of now you can view those precious spacial videos on the MQ3... and panoramic photos just the same as VP...

And in the near future they are implementing multiple window placement just like VP.

Honestly the MQ3 is fantastic value and gives you pretty much everything the VP does right now.
Facebook headset? Not on your life lol

dude, EVERYTHING is subjective when it comes to expressing feelings about a product. Are you kidding? That’s the whole point of a forum like this.

If you’re saying it can’t be overpriced since “overpriced” is subjective, then NOTHING can ever be considered overpriced. In that case, Apple could charge $50,000 for an AVP, and you’d still have to say that it’s only overpriced for people who can’t afford it.

Come on now—that’s not how the world works. Products are deemed overpriced when the great majority of the public agree that they are. And the overwhelming number of people feel AVP is overpriced.

Oh, me too - im not a fan....

... but that attitude is not enough to cause me to 'cut off my nose to spite my face' as the phrase goes.

Who cares?!

If you are in the market for VR/AR then I just dont see the justification for 7x the price from Apple. We all know about the Apple tax - but the VP is remarkably expensive for its use cases.
MQ3 achieves pretty much everything the VP does and certainly shouldn't be dismissed just because of the label on the box if you are in the market for an AR/VR headset.
Which is why we’re waiting for the cheaper vision headset?
