Probably means also released to anyone in EU willing to spend another ~200 EUR for a nice day in London with visit to Apple Store.
This is how I feel as a Canadian with regards to the USA release. It is easy enough for many of us to hop over the border and make a day/weekend trip out of it.

The catch may be if you're going into the store just for fitting and shipping is then required. (I expect this to be true given the mix-and-match of fitted pieces and likely lower initial inventory as they continue to ship more over.) If that's the case then one would need a border delivery service or US-based friend to receive it.

I think there are two main reasons why they will launch it in the US and only in a few retail stores first:

1) they want to provide as much a great experience as possible, and that's only possible by trying, and they'll try in a few places first, and what they learn they will improve and apply these to new stores and so on.
2) The demand for this device is going to be so high that unless they tried and minimized the (huge) shortage effect by making it kinda hard to put your hands on it, the headset would sold out the first day.

This seems odd to me. End of 2024 one would expect a new version of the product, no? Why would a buy a product with this price point about a year and a half after it was announced? Old tech by then.
Who said it's going to be updated yearly?
In fact, I hope not.
I hope it gets updated every other year: more time for testing what's to come, value retains for longer.

I am near sighted so some say they think such folks can use without lenses (that remains to be seen so need to test).
The focus distance will be something like 2 meters. So unless you have a very weak prescription, like -0.5, you’ll need the prescription inserts.
People who say otherwise have no idea how VR works.

it’s actually people who are far-sighted that won’t be as likely to need inserts.

That's a Brexit benefit if ever I saw one
The EU probably wants Apple to make a “special compliant model” that they have to approve first, like they’ve forced with that Threads app 👀

We always got Apple stuff first. The UK really is a “big deal” on the world stage. Most companies in Europe’s biggest market is their own home market, and then the UK follows very closely after!

Ok thanks that helps me a bit now I know I will need them, and it’s more money out of my pocket as I decide if this tech is for me or not. Still want to try it but will have to find store near to try first

I don’t think I’ve had less interest in an Apple product since the Tag (can’t even remember the name).

Although, by 2024, AR may be the way to go….maybe….

Extended Reality is a new concept. Back in the 80's people felt the same way about home computers ... "why would I need one of those?" ... or smartphones in the 2000's... "My flip phone works just fine."

The world changes. Other companies have already released VR/AR headsets, but it's taking Apple to create mainstream adoption. In 10 years, you'll wonder how we ever got along without it, much like that's how most of us feel about smartphones now.

Vision Pro development labs are going to be available in the following countries - Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.

It's not a stretch to infer that the Vision Pro will subsequently be available in those countries after their initial US launch.

Given how most of Europe had to wait like 5(?) years to get the HomePod, I’m not holding my breath.

The end of 2024 is so far away. That is after the 2024 election. It is interesting that a successful Vision Pro is already priced into the valuation of Apple. That is a lot of hope.

I'll actually have to disagree. I think this will be sold out day one. While expensive, it is totally different than anything else on the market. The quantities will probably be super limited, so sold out could be a mean hundred thousand units.

Of course it will sell out, it’s Apple. They made a cloth sell out with a long wait on backorders.

There’s plenty enough wealthy Apple fanatics to create buzz around this at the time of release. No company can do FOMO better than Apple can.

I think it's too optimistic to expect Apple to refresh a new product less than a year after release, especially when it's going to be constrained by supply for years. I am guessing at least two years before we see an updated version, and even then, it may just be a simply processor refresh or minor tweaks for manufacturing efficiencies.

I also don't think that Apple is going to be so bothered by specs (and neither should their users). This isn't going to be another iPad 3 scenario. The M2 chip has ample performance to spare, and while M3 would be nice, it's not doing to dramatically alter the overall user experience.

so it'll be usable by revision 3... in 2027, I might revisit this shambles then.

says the person that hasn't tried it or seems to take any notice of any of the reviews. I have tried it and it's leaps ahead of the magic leap(!) or HoloLens 2 and any VR headset to date.

Well I guess that's me flying to America then to get one then.

I am in the UK and have some great ideas. I am not waiting months for someone else to get there first.

Well unless I can get one though the Developer program. Odd that they are having labs in London and other places. Perhaps you can book in there and go trial your app for a few hours in house?

Food inflation close to 20% in the UK , going to stick my neck out and say this isn't going to be a big seller.

Be honest. How many of you thought, porn, the moment you saw this device?

One area which has been quick to adopt and speed the adoption of new technologies.

Think the numbers are bogus but:

I’m saving up to buy one on release. I’m earning extra cash selling plasma. Fortunately, I live in San Francisco, so I just drop by Cupertino every weekend and Apple takes my blood directly. Very efficient. It’s vertical integration at it’s finest.

... it also might be because tech regulation is quite similar in Canada/UK/US compared to the EU
No it's not.

US/Canada are. FCC and ISED rules are near identical with ISED looking like stolen homework that's all re-worded, but clearly a complete copy, and both use ANSI specs. But UK uses all the EN/ETSI regulations so is the same as EU (although we get an extra 1 dB power in the 6 GHz band over the rest of Europe, lucky us - thanks Ofcom, but still miss out most of the 6 GHz frequency range the US gets).
