So ... I've had my AVP for 3 days now, and one major issue I've noticed is that when you're recording spatial video, it doesn't let people know it. I have a feeling that Apple will place a "recording" or red recording circle on the outer-screen to mitigate this in the future.

What do you think?

This is...incorrect? The screen pulses white when recording. I imagine they originally planned on red, but that likely looked very foreboding to anyone looking at you recording. Did you record yourself recording? It's possible it only shows it if there are people nearby.

When taking a photo, it also flashes white, I assume to look like a camera flash.

How is any normal person supposed to know that "white" means "you are being recorded"?
Yeah okay but how does a “normal person” know that a white light on the Meta glasses means recording? And what about red, Blue, green etc.

It does feel a bit like complaining just for the sake of it. Now white isn't clear, and if they had chosen a different color, someone else would have disagreed.

This is what it is, and we'll have to deal with it.

No clue - I agree - it's not good enough
Bystanders should have much more notice of what's going on without their consent

Perhaps the front screen should literally say "RECORDING" ?

Maybe the creepy stranger staring right at you for a while while wearing AVP was thought to be enough warning?

Not at all -- look at any of the videos of people using it in public

There's nothing they might be doing (or not) that would signal to bystanders that they were being recorded

And what's with the comment about a "creepy stranger"?

I mean, phones don’t show if you’re being recorded
This is a fair point!
It's true, but, you usually can be suspect with a camera being held up at you.

Someone in a VR headset out and about or on a train or plane could be recording you, and your position facing them wouldn't necessary change or give an obvious "this person is recording me" vibe.

IDK this wasn't be complaining - more-so just asking the community on their thoughts.
I'm loving the responses so far, very good points on this thread.

Tell me, what is the recording indicator on the back of the iPhone?
Or on the iPad ?

Or they need to understand that they are in the public domain and can encounter somebody photographing of filming.

With a smartphone it’s just as easy to film people in secret, but we mostly don’t do it because most people are just not interesting enough. A Vision Pro (with indicator!) does not make a difference there.

People don't do it because doing it in secret nets mediocre results (if you are trying to hide what you are doing)

Quite different if the thing on your face can easily record without telling anyone -- you could look right in their direction endlessly and they'd have no idea

"White" also means "you are being recorded" on the new meta ray ban glasses. This seems to be becoming a norm. As people become more familiar with this tech, I imagine more people will understand this. Still, yes, Apple could certainly do more to make it more obvious that you're being recorded.

<Cut because bs>

Nobody can see if I walk the street recording or with twitter on my screen. Thinking that secretly filming is harder on a smartphone is just to try to make your own point stronger. But it doesn’t, if somebody wants to film secretly they can already for years.

And besides that its just a non argument all together because of being in public and WITH indicator.

And that makes the subject of this topic plain wrong:

Apple Vision Pro :: No Outward Recording Indicator

News to me, I have to admit

This being the case, I think Apple should add a white light to all of their devices to indicate this to others

Especially if they are going to keep pretending they care about our "privacy"
