$3500 for 256gb, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no

That is absolutely laughable especially since the damn thing only has less than two hours of battery life. Call me when the consumer model arrives

Time to see how far that Apple logo will carry them, since Steve Jobs isn't here to sell the dream anymore, and right now my desire to buy this thing is incredibly low. Just look at the woman in the render, how dead inside she looks. It's as if they want to make this thing as unappealing as possible.

I'm a little surprised there doesn't seem to be (so far at least) any suggestion of an event to accompany this launch. I'm going to imagine there's a lot of people like myself who are really curious about the device but would need a whole lot more functionality and experiences within it to even consider it as something we might seek to acquire at some stage.

Half a year has passed since its announcement and I thought by now they would want to come to the public and say 'remember all that interesting stuff we showed you last June, well here's much more polished versions of them along with some totally new stuff us, and third parties, have been working on since' in order to up the interest levels.

At this point it's clear Apple doesn't want average consumers using this thing. The WWDC unveiling, the absurdly high price tag, and the lack of any real marketing push it's clear this is a dev headset and the real launch will be the consumer model when that eventually arrives.

I’ll let y’all beta testers play around with it (I kid) while I’ll wait for the alpha product in the near future.

That’s a logical assessment. But we should wait and see how well it sells. Consumers are unpredictable these days.

The initial announcement was plenty and I don’t see what else Apple can say about it. The rest of it relies on app developers.

even though this seems to have been forgotten, the original iPhone and iPad never received second events, even though they were announced months before they released.

In fact, the official announcement for the iPhones release date was even more subtle than this, it was done in a series of television commercials.

So it doesn’t necessarily surprise me.

The absolute tornado of Youtuber’s and journalists experiences that will be posted over the next month or so about this product are going to do way more than a 30 minute event ever could, even if I personally thought they should have held one.

Hoping to score one or two of them on launch day... curious how the process will work for prescription lenses.

I got a couple iPhones on launch day in 2007, and looking back, it was probably one of the best moves I could have possibly made towards expanding my career over the past 15 years.

I'm even more excited about the Vision Pro than the iPhone, given it's an entirely new computing paradigm.

$3,500 (closer to $4.5k when you add upgrades, accessories, Apple Care, tax) is about the same price for a maxed out MacBook Pro... so yeah it's not cheap, but it's also not outlandish. Especially given it's a never-before-seen alien technology.

That, combined with the fact that it's hard to manufacture and gonna be supply constrained for the foreseeable future, means that Apple really has no reason to price it cheaper. I think they're probably subsidizing it more than other hardware and the price is pretty close to their cost.

There is nothing in the AVP that's "never-before-seen." PSVR2 has eye tracking. Quest has standalone-computing and hand-tracking. AVP is simply a high-end, refined version of existing technology.

Getting this device is like being a pioneer. In the future, they will talk about those who dared to believe, and picked one up early.

I have to get one.
Love it! I feel the same way! Plus I just retired so I will have lots of time to play around with it! Super excited!

Well, you'd think they would leak some apps, something like that. Maybe they will over next few weeks. I still want one.

They will sell all the units they can make this year and for years to come. This product obviously isn't intended for you. With such a cynical attitude you probably should take a break for sitting online so much.

I agree, and I'm one of those devs interested in buying one. In fact 6 months ago I was set on buying one. Now I'll probably pass and wait for v2

here's why:

1. 256gb for a $3499 device is just slap in the face. I am actually shocked (although at this point I guess I shouldn't be) since with a 3000 MacBook you get 1tb. I have to imagine 3D 8K video is gonna take a ton of space, you will barely have enough for maybe a few movies on a plane, always switching them out, no thank you.

2. I have tried the vision pro at an Apple event. The dev devices had 1tb storage. This leads me to agree with you they don't really intend people actually buying this, rather companies buying it to give to their devs, and so then why bother with storage? Apple bean counters got involved and suggested ways to save some pennies and they can bump the price for companies (or rich people) willing to pay for more storage.

3. having tried the device, its both amazing and underwhelming at the same time. Its by far the best headset I've tried, but it still doesn't feel magical. Its too heavy for one thing, and has some camera motion pass through issues for another. At that price, it needs to feel magical. If it were cheaper I'd still be on board, but not at that price.

4. Shipping a ~ $4000 device with an M2 when the M3 just came out is also comical. The thing is outdated the day it ships. There is no value in this device, it will depreciate amazingly quickly in the next few years. If you're a company buying it for your team who cares, but as an individual making a purchase, it becomes a much harder sell.

I am a big believer in Apple and in the ultimate vision (had to) they are going with this device, but man this 1.0 effort is disappointing. I'll still be here for a future version and I'll still develop apps for it with the simulator, but pretty disappointed with the bean counters at Apple on this one, I think its a huge miss for their brand and ultimately bad leadership decision. Slowly but surely they are losing trust chasing their quarterly earnings reports with each crazy ram and storage pricing decision they make.

Yeah I'm excited too but no way does it justify the cost.

having tried the vision pro as well as many other headsets, I will say vision pro is in another league. Sure the technology existed before, but this combination and refinement of it is truly next level. This is what Apple does and this is them at their best. That being said.. its still not perfect. And with camera pass through it really needs to be perfect to deliver the experience they are advertising. So for me the price needs to come down and/or it needs to improve which won't happen with this v1 device.

The initial announcement whetted appetites but my perception of the reaction was such - I'm really curious but it doesn't do nearly enough for the price tag and will live and die on third party support. So half a year on this could have been an opportunity to show the work that third party developers (plus their own titles of course) have been doing to try to reassure potential customers that there will be a rich range of diverse content available at launch, or at least coming soon after.

Apple are hardly shy to get third party developers on stage to show their coming soon titles for iPhone and other platforms after all.

Yes! Focus on the 256Gb because that is what the AVP is for… As to who this is for: DEVELOPERS and early adopters. Clearly you are neither and that is fine, but you do get bonus points for feeding the ‘if Steve was still alive’ trope 😊👍🏼

its still a weird way for Apple to nickel and dime their most loyal customers aka developers and early adopters
