Uh, I'm just gonna say I don't think the oven analogy is applicable in the slightest.

OK so not bluetooth. And maybe that means not this 1st gen headset then. A future one though, definitely.

So like, this is the same kind of reasoning people said, web browser on a phone? that old hat? I can already do that on my blackberry. Turns out the experience matters. Time will tell of course, but I'll bet on Apple (and working with Disney) to figure it out.

To be fair, up to this point, Apple hasn't even been able to make Siri the best smart assistant available on a mobile device, so I wouldn't be so confident that it's assured that they can just "figure it out".

I'll be getting one when I've seen more of the device and see how it would slot into my current workflow/lifestyle.

Currently I cannot visualise any reasonable use for it - my MacBook Pro, Air & iMac along with an iPhone serve my needs pretty well for different uses.

It's a cool gimmick being able to choose an environment to work in or play in but I don't think that justifies three thousand plus dollars or pounds when I can do that already by walking or driving somewhere to change the scene.

My Macbook Pro is a late 2103, my iPhone is a 12 Pro Max and my iPad Pro 12.9 is a Gen 5 (M1) 2TB cellular. All my devices especially my Macbook are aged so I'm looking at this as an update and hoping it holds me off from any other purchases.

I might even consider letting the iPad Pro go if the AVP can replace that. I have a 9th gen iPad as well I could get by with for that purpose.

My concern is I really prefer the Mac OS and is a large part of why I don't use my iPads as much even when both are sitting right next to me. I will grab the Macbook typically but it is getting old at 10 years now and can't even update the OS and stuck on Big Sur.. LOL.

My concern is that this seems to be more of an IOS than Mac OS. Is it just too early to say? I have been waiting for something that really interests me but torn if IOS is the limitation.

Don't let Apple's marketing fool you-- this is in no way a replacement for a MacOS device. It's essentially a high-end iPad alternative, except one that you have to strap to your face.

That what I was afraid of. I need more of a MacBook replacement right now and not crazy about just another MacBook that might not offer me much more than what I have yet cost almost the same. Why couldn’t they have based this on OS 😢.

haha ok that is a fair point, I will give you that one. I guess time will tell. (even with Siri, who knows later this year could change things)

The early iPhone was a completely different technical era as it relates to flash storage and its pricing, so I don't think it applies.

Agreed though it has nothing to do with Jobs or Cook, its Apple and has always been Apple.

I did forget about the mac pro, that is crazy to me as well. I just thought for $3k and above a 1Tb would be standard like with their MacBook pros and mac studio.
I don’t think the amount of onboard storage on this device matters much. It’s gonna be more of an accessory than a desktop replacement. You’re not gonna be capturing a bunch of content or saving a huge file archive. Think about the Apple TV… by today’s standards it has a small amount of storage, but you really don’t need more space than 32 or 64 GB. You can access the files you need via iCloud. The files you’re not using can be offloaded to open up space. I’d guess even a very large file, like a 3D movie, will be smaller than 10GB. If this still seems like a big limitation, there’ll likely be upgrade options to 512GB and 1TB, for something like an extra $200- and $500-ish.

its still a weird way for Apple to nickel and dime their most loyal customers aka developers and early adopters

What's weird is why so many tech people are obsessed with storage size.

It's like judging a bus or a plane on how many seats it has.

I agree, and I'm one of those devs interested in buying one. In fact 6 months ago I was set on buying one. Now I'll probably pass and wait for v2

here's why:

1. 256gb for a $3499 device is just slap in the face. I am actually shocked (although at this point I guess I shouldn't be) since with a 3000 MacBook you get 1tb. I have to imagine 3D 8K video is gonna take a ton of space, you will barely have enough for maybe a few movies on a plane, always switching them out, no thank you.

It will only last 2.5 hours for movies. People will not store a many movies on it and use it for long flights.

I look at it like this: what problem does this product solve?

The iPhone - combined cellular phone, portable music player, and (for many) portable computer/PDA into one device that worked seamlessly.
those products weren't dubbed solutions to those problems out the gate. As a matter of fact, none of those problems were considered problems back then at all.

Didn't you get it?
