Some Apple Vision Pro owners have been dealing with health issues related to the wearing of the headset, according to a report from MarketWatch. The site spoke to Vision Pro owners experiencing headaches and neck pain, among other issues.

Emily Olman, marketing chief of Hopscotch Interactive, said she got two "superdark black eyes" after wearing the Vision Pro for the first time, likely caused by the weight on the cheeks. Ian Beacraft, CEO of consulting firm Signal, told MarketWatch that he had pain at the base of his skull and his upper back.

There have also been complaints about the Vision Pro on Reddit from users experiencing ongoing headaches, eye strain, and pain from the weight of the device. Some users have had luck with modified straps and third-party products, and other people have no issue with the headset and the default band options.

Apple declined to comment on the customer complaints, directing MarketWatch to its user guidelines. Apple recommends taking a break from the headset every 20 to 30 minutes during the acclimation period, and to stop using the headset when feeling unwell. Apple does not recommend that people experiencing eye strain, headache, or pain continue to use the device.

It’s heavier than my Quest 3, I can’t even imagine anything even heavier but even a lighter device wouldn’t really help (me). It all comes down to the fact of having something strapped to my face. I need my skin to breathe. I already found a face mask bad enough.

i also have astigmatism and I noticed that if I use it for too long, my eyes get super tired and I end up seeing double for a while once I take it off like faces of people on the streets are somewhat blurry and every letter on a piece of paper is like doubled. It goes away after a little while.

either way, the article seems a little try hard like that Reddit thread is over 56 days old with less than 10 replies!

This product seems so un-Apple and like Tim Cook rushed it to market before he retires.

Apple always waited for tech to be a reasonable (price & hardware) before unleashing. This is like if they debuted AirPods in 2012 at a price $799 and the battery lasts 1 hour.

MacRumor user (based on actual replies to complaints about anything Apple):
You are not Tim Cook -- you don't know how to run a huge corporation!
You are not an Apple designer -- you don't know the best design, weight, and form factor!
You are not an Apple engineer -- you don't know the technological breakthroughs and limitations!

Vision Pro user:
You are not my head -- you don't know how much it hurts!
You are not my neck -- you don't know how much it hurts!
You are not my eyes -- you don't know how much it hurts!

I have a theory about the people who are complaining: I suspect they are mostly new VR users with no prior experience using such devices. VR headsets are heavy in all of their current implementations... and you shouldn't use them for prolonged periods. I think that new users who haven't already been made aware of those shortcomings are liable to end up with exactly the types of issues described herein.

(And admittedly, Apple's advertising for this thing probably isn't helping matters.)

but Apple used to wait with a new product until they are actually ready. For instance, I don’t think „old„ Apple would have released a device that weights more than a competitor out of principle. Another indicator of being rushed is releasing improved personas only after a 3rd (?) update. You would think they’d release it out of the gate with it instead of having people making fun of how bad it looks the first month after launch

I had one for almost two weeks, using it a few hours a day. It's too heavy. Yes, I tried the different strap. I was adjusting the straps constantly. I returned it. I'm really looking forward to a 2nd gen. It seemed to fit great and was comfortable and unnoticeable for 20 minutes, then I would get fidgety, after an hour it was uncomfortable and distracting to where I thought if I can't comfortably watch a movie or use it for even 2h, it's not worth my money. Obviously YMMV.
