Man I see everyone buying an extra battery - that really doesn't seem like the right move. You want to watch a 3 hour movie on a flight? At hour 2.5 you have to shut down the whole device, disconnect the battery, plug the new one in, boot it back up, open the app back up and hope it remembers your place.

Why not just buy a good 30w USB C PD power bank? Plug that into the battery. This thing works the same as an iPad, iPhone, or MacBook, the only difference being its battery and charging port is located at the end of a cable. The way I'm seeing it and I believe the way Apple intends is the battery to very rarely be unplugged from the unit, and you rotate in whatever 30-watt USB C power sources you may need whether it be wall power or a power bank. The reserve battery we all hoped would be included in the headset for hot swapping is the external battery pack.

I bought a 512GB AVP, AppleCare+, and Zeiss rx inserts. I'll get a case from elsewhere and a couple 30w USBC power banks in the run up to the 2nd.

I got the 512GB and readers.

I did one scan and got size small, and I was skeptical because I am not a small anything lol. So second scan yielded a Medium! Both scans on the same phone. Also 21W to 25W change also. Seems like the scan option is FLAWED.

I did the second order because I missed ordering the readers and I am just going to return the other NIB.

512gb

No accessories, but will get a travel case

No AC+, but most likely will add it

Mostly for watching movies and at home on the days I WFH. My wife has the home office, so I’m relegated to the couch.

Now that the preorders have started, how about we start a thread for buyers to post their thoughts? A few questions to get started:
  • Which model did you order?
  • Did you get any accessories?
  • Did you get AppleCare+?
  • What do you expect to use the Apple Vision Pro for?
-512 but initially went with 256 -changed for faster pickup and because who knows how much space is really needed
-Zeiss inserts
-Not yet but will probably add at pickup in store
-Entertainment mainly some Productivity efforts

Same re: battery packs. I bought a 30w PD battery pack last week in anticipation of getting the Vision Pro. On a plane, in the seat back pocket in front of me I will have a 30w PD battery pack, plugged into the Vision Pro battery pack, with the power cable running from there to the Vision Pro on my head. I’m sure I’ll get 5-6 hours of use this way at least.

I’ll also have my iPad with me as backup for any super long transcontinental flights.

I currently reside in Guatemala, and have booked a flight to Miami to pick this up. Really looking forward to it.

If I decide on a different case, or find a better battery in the next two weeks, I'll cancel the Apple Case and extra battery. But, I will say the extra battery gives me an extra of the proprietary AVP cable in case anything goes wrong with the first one.

I bought the extra battery because I live in Guatemala and getting one later will be difficult. That said, I have two weeks to look for a better solution. I haven't seen confirmation yet that a 3rd party power bank will work with this.

Great idea for travel !
So neat you thought about this before you got the AVP!

Just wish the AVP had hot swappable ability too...

I got an extra pack that I might return if the external battery pack can charge simultaneously while using it.

Depends what you mean by “work with this”?

If you mean will a 3rd party power bank plug directly into the Vision Pro, probably not I’d guess.

But if you mean will a 3rd party power bank plug into the Vision Pro battery to keep it topped up, of course it will. 30W PD from a power bank is no different to 30W PD from a wall outlet, and Apple already say you can keep it plugged into a wall outlet for continuous use.

The latter is good enough for me. If I’m sat down while using it (like on a plane) I don’t care that I have a power bank, plugged into the Vision Pro battery, plugged into the Vision Pro. I admit that would be clunky if I was walking around with it, but I doubt I’ll be walking around with it for 2+ hours anyway.

Yes, I am hoping that the Apple battery pack can supply power to the AVP in addition to being recharged / topped off by the 3rd party pack simultaneously...

If so, I can return the $200 battery pack...
Why would it not? Apple already say that the Vision Pro could be used continuously if the battery pack is plugged into a wall charger. Why would it be any different if it was plugged into a 30W PD battery bank instead? The wall charger Apple supply with the Vision Pro is 30W PD so it should be exactly the same.

I assume you're right, but I'd still like verification. :)

Any standard 30-watt USB-C PD will definitely work with this - the AVP doesn't discriminate against power sources as long as they supply at least what the included wall adapter supplies (30W USB-C PD). How long any particular battery will supplement the runtime is still relatively unknown but I did a bit of calculating based on the weight and it seems the factory battery is ~20,000mAh and the AVP consumes average 10,000mAh per hour.

In your case, probably nice to have a spare Apple unit if you think it'll be hard to get one later on.

512GB, Travel Case, monthly AppleCare+ until I get a feel for the device and have gone through family members/friends checking it out.

Travel case will go back if it sucks and I'll go with one of the cheaper options.

Using it primarily as a productivity device - my mac via remote desktop, along with VisionOS slack/email/notes/other apps. I've used a Quest 3 in this capacity, and it was almost there...but the resolution was still to low, and the passthrough warping was enough to make you sick over time, and software wise each remote desktop app had major drawbacks, there was no clear winner. That, and I'll also be building software for it.

  • 512GB
  • Belkin Battery Holder
  • No for AppleCare+ for now, might consider monthly option but it’ll likely never leave the house
  • Experiences I have on my iPad Pro or Apple TV: consuming movies and tv shows, listening to music and podcasts, web browsing, meditation and games plus work tasks equivalent to what I would do on my iPad Pro: Slack, Email, Calendar and Google Docs editing and some Zoom

Now that the charge has hit my card and the 3% rebate has hit my Goldman Sachs account, it’s starting to feel more real for me. ☺️

Another question: Are you getting your Apple Vision Pro delivered or picking it up in store?

In store. If the light seal doesn’t fit I want to be able to look an Apple Store person in the eye and ask them what they’re going to do about it.

256
Apple VP case
No AppleCare+
