They will literally sell as many as they can make.
They’ll catch up to the early adopters then sit on the inventory.

This happened with MacBook pros when they 1st launch.

I’ll be impressed if this sells as well as the MacBook Pro max versions.

This will sell far less than the AirPod max which wasn’t a hit btw.

No event?
For a product this hyped up and awaited… no event?

Unfortunately this is what I also suspect.
What we saw on June 5th is all that there is.

I think if there had been improvements — or even a few apps that would really make me as a fence sitter itch to go out and buy, they would be demonstrating it.

The lack of an event… is… disconcerting.

I cannot imagine the original iPhone release without a reveal event.

They may surprise us and hold a spectacular event. 🤷🏻‍♂️
What do you mean there was no reveal event? Was there not an announcement revealing the Vision Pro and describing what it does? Did I hallucinate?

This new product category has the strongest 'don't buy version 1' energy of anything apple have ever produced.

It's as expensive as a higher end Apple laptop, but not _insanely_ expensive.

And yet it's still so expensive and so unproven that there's no point in most people even bothering with it (yet).

All of this looks like a way of getting early adopters to start using it so they can test the hardware in the field, at some scale, refine it and find out where the wind is blowing.

Apple did this with the Apple Watch before health became the main driver.

I've tried various headsets produced by Oculus/meta, and other 3d gimmickry over the years.

The tech just doesn't seem there yet. Folks don't want something strapped to our heads tied around the top and back.

And apple will gimp the main driver for this stuff - immersive gaming and pornography.

So much negativity. Let’s give it a chance, yeah? Even Apple knows the device is destined more for industrial use than recreational; 256gb is plenty for those applications.

In reality it’s a 256gb iPad Pro you strap to your face. That amount of storage on that device is still plenty. Video will likely stream from iCloud given you’ll be shooting it with your phone.

If you think the price is too high for businesses who can write it off on expenses then it’s not meant for you.

Looks like I'm waiting for the consumer model then. This thing should've been at minimum 512gb especially since it's running an M2 chip. Asking $3500 for 256gb is laughably insulting especially when you can get a Meta Quest headset with 256gb at 1/7 the cost.

Edit: Dislike me all you want but $3500 for 256gb in a "pro" product is asinine, especially when Apple's entering a market that is already niche with much more affordable options. You wanna spend $3500 for that little specs be my guest, but I'm waiting for the consumer model since i know damn well there's gonna be something first gen curse related with this thing that the consumer model will address
What will people be storing on device? I’m assuming there won’t be that many apps and they won’t take up that much space. Is it just video then? Will people be recording lots of video and storing on device?

No, you're not hallucinating.

However many people (certainly here at MacRumours) did expect a pre-release event.

*shrug*

I certainly didn't but I'm not sure what the precedent is for this stuff. I seem to remember both the iPhone and Watch had an event a while before they actually launched and no second event for when they actually did. I also remember them being far more anticipated than Vision Pro is.

I'm surprised we haven't got some new app or functionality at least to unveil (I had expected something maybe around Fitness+), then again we might get this actually at the launch next month.

I still feel this isn't going to be much of a success and will largely be met with indifference by the market.

Imagine charging $3500 for a consumer product, then have storage options.
Apple can.

What will people be storing on device? I’m assuming there won’t be that many apps and they won’t take up that much space. Is it just video then? Will people be recording lots of video and storing on device?

Seeing as Apple is marketing Spatial Video a lot for this thing, yeah. Not just video, but apps take a lot of space too. What if you're saving music and videos to watch on it too, like a lot of stuff from Disney+? That takes up a lot of space too. One Disney+ movie is a gigabyte in itself.

So it's really really REALLY hard to justify 256gb on this thing since they're charging $3500 for it, and will most likely overcharge for storage upgrades as well as they usually do, on a device that is already absurdly expensive.

Everything about this just screams "we only want developers using it for now" and it feels like the consumer model will be the real launch when that eventually comes.

It wouldn’t have EyeSight if that were true. The audience it tech enthusiasts first and foremost.
If I was to wear it around my lab space to interact with objects rather than jut stare at an infinite desktop I imagine Eyesight might be useful fo my colleagues.

Why are people going crazy about the storage? We have no idea how much storage you'd need on it. It's likely you don't need much for what it does.

Just like with nits on a monitor after a certain point, people just want to see a bigger number even when it would not matter.

$400 Apple Watch? 64GB.
$3500 Headset that is supposed to be a full computer? 256GB.

Embarrassing. No wonder they didn’t announce the storage space at the same time as the rest of it. I was thinking for this much money it was going to come with 1TB.

This continues in the legacy of the iPhone by having the first gen base model having not enough storage, I wonder if it will also get cut shortly after launch like the 4GB iPhone.

256gb. For $3499. I can’t. I just cannot. I get that this isn’t priced for a bloke like me but they couldn’t spring for 512 at least????

Do we even understand what Vision Pro uses the storage for?

I may be wrong, but it would seem like the storage is designed for the OS + cache, while all the actual storage happens in the cloud or on your other Apple devices.

You make it sound like the only thing customers will get for their $3499 is a 256gb stick of memory. You do realize they'll be getting a state of the art AR/VR headset with that 256gb, right? I'm guessing that's where the majority of the $3499 is going.
