Do we even understand what Vision Pro uses the storage for?

I may be wrong, but it would seem like the storage is designed for the OS + cache, while all the actual storage happens in the cloud or on your other Apple devices.
Eventually this device has to stand on its own. I’d imagine at around VisionOS 3 people are going to start running into problems with only 256GB as it grows. This shouldn’t be something you should have to worry about with a $3500 headset.

I dont even care anymore. I just want to get my hands on this and tinker with it as much as possible. It's not often that you get to see the beginning of a new Apple Product line as big as this. 256gb isn't terrible as base storage considering I had that on my Quest 2 and I barely used 120gb at my peak storage. But considering the size of high def movies and what not, I would probably go 512gb to be safe. But I would still have to see it in person to make sure

State of the AR/VR headset? To do what with exactly? I'm still trying to figure out the use cases to rationalize the purchase. Remember Google Glass?

If that was true, they wouldn't even mention the storage capacity.

I find it hard to understand why the Vision Pro comes with an M2 Chip, instead of an M3. M3 was already launched in 2023, consumes less power, and has much more GPU performance, something critical in a VR/AR product. Is Apple not interested in the success of the Vision Pro or there are technical limitations?

I was wondering if there was some way I could throw away a good down payment for a car on a novelty and I opened this story.

People aren't impressed with the product because Apple hasn't done/shown anything worth raving about. You only have to look at the reaction @ the $3500 price tag to realize which way this will likely go.

At this point, it's the Apple sticker on the side of the box that's stopping it from being shot down because if Sony or another company tried to pull this, this forum would be poking fun out of the thing.

I'm getting the feeling we'll see a 2nd generation in 1-2yrs and then it'll become one of those products that are almost forgotten about and you'd be lucky to get an update for 4-5yrs at a time.

What is the storage for? Doesn’t I tether to a computer like every other VR headset?

I certainly didn't but I'm not sure what the precedent is for this stuff. I seem to remember both the iPhone and Watch had an event a while before they actually launched and no second event for when they actually did. I also remember them being far more anticipated than Vision Pro is.

I'm surprised we haven't got some new app or functionality at least to unveil (I had expected something maybe around Fitness+), then again we might get this actually at the launch next month.

I still feel this isn't going to be much of a success and will largely be met with indifference by the market.
The watch was definitgely not more anticipated than this. The first watch especially was so boring. This is exciting and new. I think its the only piece of electronics I’ve been truly excited about in a long time

We have no idea what the storage requirements will be. Like the Apple TV with 128 is way overkill.

I want to have a decent selection of movies and tv to watch while flying/traveling. You say we have no idea what the storage requirements will be, but I know how much 256 is in 4k movies, and it's not many even when using Apple's compression techniques.

And that feels like a realworld use case. Apple TV's main selling purpose is to be a streaming box, which by definition, doesn't need large storage.

And all this is missing the fact that we're ignoring that it was a $10 price difference to Apple when sourcing the parts, but they chose to skimp out on a $3500 product with no upgrade path.

Apple definitely should offer larger storage configurations - like what Apple currently does with the Apple TV

Would like to see a 512 GB and maybe a 1 TB option to give users more space to store offline 4K content. Easy profit for Apple to do so
You can bet that if there's room for more chips for storage, Apple will absolutely not pass up on the opportunity to rip off the consumer for 10X the cost of the chips.

Agreed. I could see the lack of an event being a potentially swaying factor for anyone who is sitting on the fence. In terms of showing people why they NEED this (or should at least want one)...not having an event is a missed opportunity.
I have no need after initial evaluation over summer. I have a 15 PM, latest gen 6 12.9 iPad Pro, and M2 Pro 16 inch MacBook Pro and Apple TV why do I need more. If I were single and lived alone I might like to play with one but not a gamer and not sure it would be nicer than physically working on macbook or streaming on my iPad Pro. I am also not single and wife prefers I set there where she can see my face when working on ipad in living room LOL the Vison Pro would not Be approved certainly not a socialization tool LOL. So no thanks just do not see a need but then have not been interested in any of headsets.

Imagine charging $3500 for a consumer product, then have storage options.
Apple can.

Appears to work fine for them...

What is that ugly quest looking strap thing? Where’s the one They’ve been advertising forever?
Probably so you can order online and ship home rather than try in store to fit. And old band did not support enough I suspect?

Seeing as Apple is marketing Spatial Video a lot for this thing, yeah. Not just video, but apps take a lot of space too. What if you're saving music and videos to watch on it too, like a lot of stuff from Disney+? That takes up a lot of space too. One Disney+ movie is a gigabyte in itself.

So it's really really REALLY hard to justify 256gb on this thing since they're charging $3500 for it, and will most likely overcharge for storage upgrades as well as they usually do, on a device that is already absurdly expensive.

Everything about this just screams "we only want developers using it for now" and it feels like the consumer model will be the real launch when that eventually comes.

Or it will have a dependency on iPhone and big storage will be offloaded there.

To use this thing in some ways beyond a wifi zone is going to require cellular data. I haven't seen a word about it having that built in. If not, it is probably going to lean on iPhone for cellular data. So that's where big movies, video shot with Vpro, music library, etc can be stored.

I hope NOT on the iPhone dependency but all signs are pointing to it so far.

If it surprises by having its own cellular connection capability sans iPhone, then it should be able to be sold through cell service providers and the same cell phone subsidies that create the illusion of up to about $1000 off* should be applicable. Conceptually, that could yield advertising at $2499* with 2-3 year cell service commitments. Basically, this would be the same trick that was used with the first iPhone that launched at full price and then "got much more affordable*" via financing trickery.

I dont think this will catch on in its current form.

Actually, if you insist on having 4K movies while flying, you can fit quite a few movies on a 256GB drive. Plenty for the trip to and from wherever you're going. You would first have to hope and pray that Apple will allow 4K downloads to the Vision Pro (currently Apple does not allow 4K movie downloads, do they?). Second, if Apple doesn't allow it, then you can rip your own (with much effort and time waste) at a size that works for you to allow however many movies makes you happy.

EDIT: Seems the battery life of the VP is 2.5 hours. One movie.
