Apple, come on!

With bluetooth keyboard, I can see it being replacement for multi-screen setup on the go.

But the price needs to come down, otherwise I'm not sure how large is the group of people spending 3500 USD for multi-screen setup on the go with OS similar to iPad (iPadOS seems pretty limited compared to macOS experience).
It’s cheaper than a MacBook with 2 4K screens. Think the mistake people make is comparing this with pure XR displays. This is a full Mac with 2 miniature 4K displays, a couple Webcams and apparently also great speakers. It’s actually pretty cheap if it can keep up to the expectation of being a desktop multi-monitor replacement!

I doubt that’s possible unless Apple makes some kind of haptics glove.
Haptics help but I don't think they are a must. I turned off my haptics for typing on all multi-touch devices years ago and never thought about it until now. So long as the buttons light up and maybe a little audio tone for each keystroke, I think typing in air will be fine. Or it won't for some and they have many other options for input. Of course, there will be gloves and other kinds of feedback devices for hands but it's too early to seriously consider anything other than software for this new platform.

And this is when man made the decision to live and exist on the couch, eventually losing his legs, developing short arms, and giant bug eyes.

Archeologists will gaze in wonder at the new evolution that ultimately destroyed the homo sapien species…
If you were lazy before you had a Vision Pro, you will probably be lazy after you get one. If you like to get out and do things, a Vision Pro isn't going to change that. Give it a few generations and it will probably enhance being lazy and/or going outdoors. Although I am going to rock my Gen 1s everywhere just to weird people out.

I know a phone without a physical keyboard was welcomed to save real estate, a watch you can make calls on & dig into health metrics was innovative, but I can’t see 1 practical purpose of this hardware at all, especially at $3,500, other then the “coolness factor” which will evaporate quickly when the monthly bill comes due. $145 per month is especially steep for a 1st generation version.

I wonder if the virtual keyboard contains Haptic Feedback. If it does that would be amazing. Otherwise, it's going to feel like you are typing in the air.

While the example image does appear to be typing in air, I would guess one can put that keyboard anywhere. If so, put it on a flat surface- just like we would with an actual keyboard- and then the surface becomes the stand in for the tops of keys. Yes, that would still be different than an actual keyboard (no key movement), but our fingers could "feel" the key strikes.

Else, as Apple said in the demo and this article confirms, toss a bluetooth keyboard in the same bag for a full keyboard experience. The demo offered up Magic Keyboard + Trackpad... which implies the "new kind of laptop" discussed in many threads BEFORE the reveal: Vpro + keyboard + mouse = an apparently unlimited screen(s) laptop experience.

I'm very intrigued to try that for myself. Next years+ "laptop" purchase might be THAT instead.

Edit (a little more): There's an impressive (maybe Ted Talk or similar) video in one of the pre-launch threads where the demonstrator takes a (planned) phone call. He has no apparent phone on him. Instead he holds his open hand out and the VR/AR projects what he would see on his phone screen onto his open hand. He then swipes on that hand as a stand-in for a phone and takes the call. In other demos, any flat surface can stand in for the flat surface of any other screen. For example, maybe a wall next to the person or a countertop can be the "touch screen" stand in for an iPad not with a person. I wish I had made note of that video. It was interesting along these lines.

I have a slightly different take on this first generation (and ground breaking device). It breaks the computer mold as we know it. And I forgive the initial baby steps forward as it will evolve. And I may yet purchase one of these to remain in original packaging w/ receipt to hand down to my son as an investment - - I believe it will sell well above the purchase price many years from now as yet another original Apple tech device that broke the mold. Computer screens, keyboards, mice . . . how quaint it will all seem!!

Can you imagine working on a spreadsheet using voice commands? They will need to change how you can interact with apps if this system is going to be for doing actual work and not just consuming or viewing.

Why? Use the same tools one uses to work on spreadsheet. Apple showed Magic keyboard + trackpad (which likely implies mouse could stand in for track pad). VPro on and get to work in the same way one does now... just with the flexibility for much more screen(s) than any laptop/tablet/phone.

Toss a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse in your bag with your AVP. You’ll probably also need a few extra battery packs, maybe a Magic Trackpad and an Apple Pencil. While you’re at it go ahead and throw your laptop in there since this will require one for running advanced apps. And go ahead and throw a Cinema Display in. May as well since you’re already lugging all that stuff around so that you can create a virtual office at the local Starbucks where you’ll be wearing your creepy face mask and flailing your hands and fingers in the air like a homeless person talking to the black helicopters that he thinks are circling.

What could go wrong?

My question is how "fast" and usable will visionOS be for "power users"?

Apple have been catering to very "average" computing interests for many years in their UX, in the iPhone and iPad. Things move & scroll very leisurely, etc. I'm worried that visionOS will be similarly "leisurely" paced and a drag to work in, for experienced users who work fast and have a high input APM in front of macOS.

How do you think the hand gestures will work in this regard?

Be as pessimistic and extreme as you wish- you do seem to be the king of it when it comes to this product- but others can be optimistic. I'm impressed at what I saw. Lots of things that seemed unlikely/longshot before the reveal appear to be likely/possible with it.

I'll certainly want to try one myself to see what it can and can't do. You are- of course- welcome to your own opinion. Fortunately, yours doesn't have to be everyone else's too.

I don’t claim to be an authority. I’m simply sharing my opinion just like everyone else.

Whats is interesting with Vision Pro is that you don't have any other devieces in your hands to be able to controll apps, Meta and Sony users have no choice, you gotta use those controlls to be able to use your hands

This change everything again like iPhone back in 2007!

"Who wants a stylus? You have to get 'em, put 'em away, you lose 'em. Yuck! Nobody wants a stylus. So let's not use a stylus... God gave us 10 styluses. Let's not invent another." asked Steve Jobs.
