I don't think we're anywhere close to this. I want have intuitive gestures without having to put on a big a** headset.

for now, that is SF
100 years ago, WI Fi was considered SF
This is a big step in this industry and Apple went all in...this will improve from now on
AR glasses i think is for the consumers...since this is meant just for in doors use and not an overall product

Really excited for comments surrounding this headset to age like the original iPod thread. Be sure to quote people with the worst takes so when they edit them they're preserved for future giggling.
I love making fools out of people years later. Too many narcissists and know-it-alls in the world and the internet exposes their behaviors. I screenshot lots of tweets.
In regards to this product, I'm not taking any sides to it. It's very cool tech but pricey for me. I would love to see the haters in this thread owning the Gen 3 models five years later.

Really excited for comments praising this 3500 USD niche product like it's as innovative and problem solving as iPod.

Be sure to quote people with most excited takes so when they edit them they're preserved for future giggling.

Steve Jobs would have worn the freaky thing live, right before our eyes to show how amazingly simple and intuitive it is.

That’s a behaviour Tim Cook has never displayed on stage. Unfortunately.
If you follow Jobs' philosophy, he would have killed the project. It doesn't solve a problem which was his number 1 focus.

Say what you want but this is a tool strictly for the living room, or for some niche workplaces.
The only AR tool I'd be willing to tolerate wearing in public would be the Google glasses.

That sounds like an exciting future to look forward to! :)

Will they age better or worse of those who said the mock-up looked horrible and clunky and the real thing would not look like a hybrid between a scuba mask and an Apple Watch? Because -spoiler alert- that’s exactly how it looks like, and in fact the mock-up were quite optimistic and looked a lot better then the real thing.

While I can see a couple of use cases…
- viewing panoramic & 3D photography / videography,
- doing work or catching a movie on a plane,
- gaming,
- general purpose computing for the profoundly disabled,
…I just can't see this taking off as a general-purpose computing platform for the masses.

Nobody will want to be wearing this thing in public - I think the synthesized exterior display of your eyes and nose is über-creepy. And even in private, even among VR fans, nobody wears these headsets for over an hour.

Not sure how I feel about these headsets. It's just one more layer of separation between actual human contact. I do find the demonstrations of using facetime with this a bit funny. Everyone the wearer is seeing is showing their full face, but the wearer is wearing this headset, so what do the other participants see of the wearer? What's the point of facetime if we are all wearing these headsets and can't see each others faces?
For me, it is a thing to wear in private. I would not wear it in public, or with friends or family (in person) despite the attempts to make it more "real human interaction friendly." This is for working alone or in private downtime as far as I am concerned.

Have you noticed how he headset has two round(ish) holes for the eyes, yet in all the promo images from the front it looks as if you're seeing the entire top of the face including the top of the nose and some eyebrows?
Cool promo images yes? Not soo cool when we all find out we all look like owls instead.

It's just some Apple trickery. Just an outward display. You scan your face when setting it up and internal cameras do the rest.

I’m not against the headset at all. I think Apple did an amazing job with the groundbreaking technology. You can tell they put a lot of research into it. They went wrong pricing it at $3,499.
First Mac in 1984 cost $7000 in 2023 dollars. Like the Mac, this is a new platform and Apple filed 5000 patents. Research and development costs money and Apple built the premium possible experience. All things considered, $3.5k is an appropriate price. The price will hold back adoption as it did for the first Mac. A lot of people could not afford them so we rented time on them hourly at local retail computer labs and service centers. Maybe some entrepeneur will do something similar once content is released.

Is this going to be hit in the tech/Apple nerd circles? Probably yes.

Is this going to be mass selling product like iPhone, iPod, iPad... Definitely not. Definitely not with this price-point. Also it does not solve any actual problem and you can't flex with it on the street showing your higher class to others.

To everyone complaining about the price, or the utility as a stand alone product in 2023…. Is it THAT hard to understand this is not the end goal? They don’t care if they sell 100k of them and nothing more. They need the real world usage to drive future innovation and they need mass production of new parts to drive down prices for… the future.

It’s been everywhere for years that they want to make AR glasses - the real killer device everyone will want. They have to do this first and they’re the only company in the world willing to roll out a niche product first in order to get there.

It’s really not hard logic.
