I’m not against the headset at all. I think Apple did an amazing job with the groundbreaking technology. You can tell they put a lot of research into it. They went wrong pricing it at $3,499.
They didn't go wrong. It's the price of the tech. Getting it out there will only bring economies of scale and a price reduction. It wouldn't have delivered an Apple experience otherwise.

Steve jobs wouldn’t have touched this thing with a long stick, let alone approve it or present it.
I can also assure you he wouldn’t have approved the external connecting battery pack, especially with a 2 hours of battery life. You can't even finish a Disney movie with that.

iPod solved a problem - this thing really doesn't along with all the other AR/MR/VR tech out there (its been out there for years).
I think it solves an obvious problem. Limited screen real estate. Especially when traveling.

Obviously, this is a professional, gen1 version. I think an eventual consumer version will solve different problems, mainly focused around AR.

To everyone complaining about the price, or the utility as a stand alone product in 2023…. Is it THAT hard to understand this is not the end goal? They don’t care if they sell 100k of them and nothing more. They need the real world usage to drive future innovation and they need mass production of new parts to drive down prices for… the future.

It’s been everywhere for years that they want to make AR glasses - the real killer device everyone will want. They have to do this first and they’re the only company in the world willing to roll out a niche product first in order to get there.

It’s really not hard logic.
They need to make a giant clunky headset that is way to expensive to be mainstream, before just making their AR/VR glasses...? That makes no sense. They should have waited for the glasses and launched that, not this. Keep this internal or for a very small amount of external companies to make apps and test. The word of mouth and youtube videos will generate enough hype.

I'll pass on the first gen due to cost, but second gen and I'm there!

I remember there being stories about a second, cheaper, headset being developed alongside the first one.

Wouldn't it be cool if, when Apple do their introduction event for the Vision Pro, they announce another "One more thing" - and show off the cheaper Apple Vision @ $2499 alongside the Vision Pro @ $3499 :).

How about Apple Vision Pro Mini?

My hot take:

With its current limited feature set and very high-price, it’s absolutely not for everyone.

If it does well in 2024 as far as developers putting work in to make great apps for it, and it sells well given the price tag, this can be the start of something actually great.

Forget what you know about current movies, TV shows, and sports events. Imagine a new experience where you become fully immersed in whatever you’re watching? Standing in the Octogon during a UFC fight, front row to a concert, court side seats at a NBA game or physically being a part of a movie. I think there’s an UNBELIEVABLE amount of potential that we can see unfold over the next decade.

And that’s just taking entertainment into account. Think about the possibilities for education. Medical students can practice surgeries, engineering students can test designs, etc.. possibilities can be endless.

At $3500 it’s not for me, but if
everything goes well I feel confident there will be lower priced models in the future. This could be the start of a new industry all together, and maybe one day even be as prevalent as TVs are in homes.

If you can't afford it just say that, no need to be constantly complaining.
Unfair comment... You can say it is priced too high whilst being willing to buy it! For example, I will buy it at $3499. I just wonder how much more they would sell at $2999... But yes, before you say it, I am sure they have researched this price-point. But just because some said that, don't assume they can't afford it. Perhaps their thinking is less parochial than you assume.

This will be a veryyyyy impressive device in a few years. I can't wait until the get it into eye glasses in 5-10 years.

People have to look beyond 2024! This is only version 1 and it's only going to get better as time goes on.

But it's still looking for a problem to solve...cool tech, niche product.
This is a entertainment product. This aint no different than playing a video game or watching a movie, this is entertainment with extra capabilities that will only improve as time goes on

I don't think we're anywhere close to this. I want intuitive gestures without having to put on a big a** headset.

Everything has a compromise. As amazing as Tony's setup was — it was also not immersive, nor mobile — so you were tied to a square light table. Tony's experience was designed for the 3rd person viewer, not the user.
