Not for AR, this is kind of standard. For example:

Starts at (checks notes) $3500.

Magic Leap is $3200.

Maybe apple will make a Vision (sans Pro) next year, drop the whole eyesight screen on front and remove the glass front to save weight.

Exactly. People not having a clue what they are talking about and comparing low end junk devices. It's like comparing a feature phone to the iPhone. There is a market there for high-end devices, like you've shown. It may be small but it will serve to filter the tech and features down to the mainstream in time.

This company are making high-end VR/AR headsets close to the the Vision Pro, with the computing focus and are targeting enterprise. They're working with some of the world's largest corporations. Even their devices don't look to come close to the Vision Pro but their highest spec model is 6495.

It's not for everyone yet and it's not meant to be. And that's fine. The annoyance of dumb self obsessed fanboys particularly on this forum, who behave exactly as expected and previously demonstrated getting aggravated because Apple isn't 1000% focussed on their needs 1000% of the time.

Mass adoption for a 3500 dollar gadget won't happen. While it's impressive, it's of limited use.. You're not gonna walk outside with it and has only 2hrs of battery. Definitely niche. Wait for version 10 when it shrinks to be contact lenses. Lol

Remember the NEWTON? That is what this is. Impressive tech, generally useless masturbatory garbage created by a corporate culture. Apple is back to their Pre-Jobs arrogance.

The game changing product that could come out of this would be the sunglass type device that has all of these capabilities..

But it appears we are so far away from that at this point. I’ve never tried an AR/VR device, but my concerns would be strapping so many electronics to my head from a health perspective and any nauseous feelings.. this won’t be a cigarette type situation where incidents of brain tumors just explode in 15-20 years from now, correct? I’m not a doctor so I’m not caught up on whether any of these concerns even exist.

But it's still looking for a problem to solve...cool tech, niche product.
To an extent a lot of people said the same about the iPhone, it was a premium high-tech device that pretty much made calls, sent text messages, and had nice apps for everyday things like a web browser, notes, clocks, and contacts. There was no App Store for a year.

Give the Vision Pro a few more iterations and it'll have its "iPhone 4 moment", and the masses will flood in. And definitely don't underestimate this products potential impact (remember what Steve Balmer said about the iPhone?).

Steve Jobs would have worn the freaky thing live, right before our eyes to show how amazingly simple and intuitive it is.

That’s a behaviour Tim Cook has never displayed on stage. Unfortunately.
No, he would have bullied the team into making it half the size with triple the battery life. Then he would have pulled it from his jacket pocket and worn it for a 6 hour launch event.

They need to make a giant clunky headset that is way to expensive to be mainstream, before just making their AR/VR glasses...? That makes no sense. They should have waited for the glasses and launched that, not this. Keep this internal or for a very small amount of external companies to make apps and test. The word of mouth and youtube videos will generate enough hype.
It literally is how we got from iPhone to iPhone 14, but I’ve seen how not everyone has the capacity to understand.

But it's still looking for a problem to solve...cool tech, niche product.

How many people out there are trying to build massive things on 16" screens? Cinematic VFX, skyscrapers, airliners, spacecraft, gigantic codebases. It's ridiculous how much zooming and panning we're doing all day because our screens are way too small for the work we're doing.

With the price of the headset maybe now people will understand why existing VR headset makers did not go down the 'heavy technical' route as Apple have because they knew it would turn out to be very expensive and they wanted something consumers good afford so they sacrificed on technology to achieve that goal.

I’ve read multiple hands-on impressions now and, by reading between the lines, you can tell this product is far from perfect. Moreover, even at this price point it doesn’t look like they’ve managed to solve many of the current VR helmet limitations such as seeing the goggle black borders in your peripheral vision. Something that Verge has pointed out. There is also no haptic feedback on this helmet either, which is puzzling, considering the PSVR 2 has that while costing almost 7 times less. I think Apple still has a long way to go with this. They will probably iron it all out by the third generation.

Wonder what would Steve Jobs think about Apple Vision Pro.

View attachment 2213843
It would never make it to market because the Goggles are an exercise in Tech Engineering Doing Something Because they Can, not because they should.

The Superlightweight earbuds apple makes are barely tolerable after wearing for a couple hours, imagine this monstrosity. This is why Tim Cook is a failure. Even the presentations are more focussed on the underlying tech, instead of what it can actually do.

Maybe Tim Cook wants to capture the VR Porn business, where this might work. lol

If I can do InDesign layouts or complex photo or video edits with 'massive screens' anywhere I am, that's a massive win for me. This is all about future potential, shifting the paradigm and developers. And for all the technology and R&D costs, I think the price is pretty fair, Apple didn't cut any corners with this thing. I'm sure there's things that Apple haven't even thought about yet. And how amazing for paraplegics.

I might not buy into it just yet. But I did buy a Gen 1 iPhone when tbh it was a joke compared to what the iPhone 14 is.

Steve would so have worn it on stage and all of us would have sucked into the reality distortion field!

Vision Pro Headset: $3,499.00
Zeiss Lenses for the Vision Impaired: $400
Spare Battery: $250
Spare Forehead Band: $199
1TB Memory Upgrade: $500
Vision Pro Polishing Cloth: $199
Tax: $505
Total: $5,552

Memories of your bank account as you gaze longingly at the new addition to your closet shelf: Priceless
Is Apple Polishing Cloth compatible with Apple Vision Pro? I don't really want to pay $199 for Vision Pro Polishing Cloth.

Remember folks, Admiral William Adama had old school phone lines running through the ship to save humanity. Ain’t nobody strapping goggles with scanners and AI to my head. I'll be at the plant nursery buying $3500 of trees and perennials instead.

It had the best display tech, it was revolutionary.

It still unclear, to me, if this is an actual standalone computer/device, or just an overpriced peripheral.
