I disagree with the last line. I wear my AVP for hours (like upwards of 8 to 10 some days) and it does disappear to me for much of the time. Sure, it would be nice if it had a form factor like regular glasses, but the technology doesn't exist yet. In the meantime, I'm happy sitting here in front of my ultra wide Mac Virtual Display that is larger than the wall of my office.

The only problem I have found with it so far is that when I have the GPUs on my M3-Ultra Mac Studio 100% busy running AI tasks (such as they are now and much of the time lately), I get an occasional momentary tear in the Mac Virtual Display.
Apple over complicated AVP for no reason. Some hardware components change very rarely like the cameras, optics, sensors etc. the things that do change like the CPU, RAM, SSD should have been on an external unit the size of the battery pack if not smaller. That way when the next Gen M XYZ processor gets released one is not chucking away the rest of the good hardware to be up-to-date. What a slap in poor Mother Narures face.

By doing this the unit would be lighter, easily upgradable and cost less. Hook up the lightweight headset to your Mac either via USB-C or ad-hoc WiFi 7 connection to make it work or you can get the portable computer pack and keep the laptop away.

Both are accurate statements. As the first device of its kind from Apple, it's more than a little reminiscent of the "Macintosh Portable". But look what that led to later on. We carry supercomputer-class devices now that weigh about 5 lbs and have days of standby power, gigabit net, and gorgeous UHD screens.
We are not in the early days of computer hardware tech. If companies like Meta can produce AR/VR Rayban eyewear then Apple has over-engineered AVP for no good reason and at a cost that doesn’t reflect consumer expectation reality.

There's a *HUGE* difference between Apple's AVP and Meta's Glasses.

Yea waiting 8 hours in the ER for bleeding in the lungs and paying $400+ a month for medicare is totally worth it compared to my experience in the USA of waiting less than 5 minutes in the ER and paying $200 a month (Was $0 a month last year) for private insurance that covers EVERYTHING. $0 deductible, $0 copay.

""GREAT"" system when I was working in Sydney, even the pharmacy I had to wait for simple medication, atrocious system.

Not to mention the hospitals were horrible in Syndey, raggedy and worn down, super understaffed. My aunt who lives in England regularly flies to America to get treated because lines span months and years for simple procedures
Eh? Who’s paying $400 for Medicare? Or is this some American thing about taxes?

I can’t comment on Sydney hospitals because I don’t live on that side of the country, but I know my niece got a lot of focused and intense care, that her parents would never have afforded in the U.S. system, when she was born 8 weeks premature. Now she’s a healthy teenager.

The times I’ve needed emergency care it’s not been super time sensitive, so I’ve had to wait a few hours, but I got seen to and treated. And I get my (many) prescriptions for $20ish dollars, give or take too. I don’t know that waiting 15 minutes for a pharmacist to dispense your prescription is really worth complaining about.

If you’re super keen on giving away your money to big business, you can still get private health insurance here and go to a fancy private hospital if you want to.

I’m sorry you had a negative experience with or health care system. As I said, it could be better, but from what I’ve read and experience, and from what my friends have experienced living in the U.S., I’ll take our system any day thanks.

>50% of hospitals in the US are non-profit;
The hospital that I eh retired from after 33 years was at first non-profit and we had profit sharing (granted it was not much) time and 1/2 for weekends and free dinner (night shift) retirement plan and etc...We didn't know how good it was until it went to for profit. Still want to throw up when I hear that CEO's name, he later went to become gov. of FL. and now he's the senator, lol, geeze.
due to recent Medicare/Medicaid changes.
Our Medicare/Medicaid situation was different then but when the for profit company took over, they had to pay a few dollars in fines because of fraud, the U.S. Department of Justice called it the “largest health care fraud case in U.S. history,”. A very intriguing behind the scenes story. Needless to say, staff was reduced and most of those bennies would soon be gone.
well good the surgeon I guess.
That group that developed the software should take a bow and Apple should have said something very positive and loud.
"brand new way of computing" for the masses,
It was that indeed but Apple has exchanged their fleet feet for heavy lead feet when it comes to software, lol
instead of a useful tool for specific situations.
Maybe give a helping hand to some degree to people that would like to develop software in various fields for the AVP.
not Metallica and moon videos.
Lol, just don't talk bad about the AVP's 3D!!!! Except how difficult Apple makes viewing that lovely medium.
Ternus has already reportedly soured on Vision Pro internally.
That would be a shame because the future of this device or something like it will be part of the future.
Tim Cook did very good if Apple has the fortitude to stick with it.

🚨‼️BELEAGUERED‼️🚨

God, I just had a flash back to the 90s. Thanks MacRumors. Everything went Beige and Bondi for a moment there.

It's really cute how some here want the Vision Pro to fail at all costs even with the evidence squarely hitting them in the face to the contrary

Yeah the AVP is hitting on all cylinders! 95% sales drop and halted production in early 2025. I won't go into the billions wasted on R&D for this device.
Since you so clearly work for Apple, can you tell the class just how many billions Apple supposedly wasted on r&d and the 95% drop?

Or is the reason that you "won't go into" the billions supposedly wasted is that you have no specific numbers to cite (hint: only Apple has those) because those, much like your 95% drop claim are just guesses? 🤔

Every media outlet has confirmed the 95% sales drop and production was halted. Not sure where you get your info from.

What protocol can handle the needed bandwidth over a cable tethered to AVP? Even Thunderbolt 5 would introduce too much latency for a smooth experience.

it’s not like Apple hasn’t addressed these limitations of data bandwidth in the past with creative solutions such as with the 30” Cinema Display where it used two cables. It was not pretty but it worked.

Having two Thunderbolt 5 connections either parallel or one upstream and one down would work. Or possibly utilizing compression and still retaining an acceptable level of usability. What you mention are literally limitations that excite engineers to find solutions not stop them from pushing beyond the limitations.

I dislike saying this but Steve Jobs would have pushed the hardware limits. Tbh there is nothing cool about ski googles that have already been done by competitors years prior. Granted there is some Apple flair but that’s about it.
