And as for Apple not being a "big account", that is true in terms of sales, but they are a very public account. Intel wants to stand out from the competition and Apple will help them do that. It is because of this that the deal with Apple is important to Intel. Steve Jobs is trying to use this as leverage to get some preferential treatment. As they say, you don't get it if you don't ask.

they are a very public account, and finicky.

I hope SJ wasn't thinking he'd be able to get extra perks because it was Apple signing an Intel contract, thinking that would give them a priority...

In my earlier post I stated that Apple should have bought off Motorolas chip division but I was being more sarcastic than anything... My point was that if Apple starts complaining about Intel then there isn't anyone left out there that can produce chips that Apple wants...

Going back to the "superior" Pentium M, its still slower than most Pentium 4 processors Intel rolls out these days and thats a fact... Power consumption, its an important aspect of building laptops but not so important in the desktop arena... I am more than sure AMD and other processor manufacturers are not sitting still and watching Pentium M and Intels future roadmap to dominate the market...

AMD has desktop advantage right now and Intel will probably overlap them soon but then again AMD after a couple of months/years will overlap Intel again as they will introduce another new architecture, its just the way processor market is, there will always come out something better...

And last but not least, I will attach the pic from Intel Developers Conference, to all the Intel fanboys, its just funny how IBM with the CELL concept (notice I didn't say processor as most people associate CELL with PS3 processor disregarding the fact that CELL is a highly customizable architecture) is again a couple of years ahead of the competition, multi-core, multi-threading, highly parallel architectures, specialised DSPs (<sarcasm>and I am more than sure those architectural enhancements won't require new programming techniques</sarcasm>)...

Yes, we now know that fordlemon is a republican, as well as a troll. Ignore him as you would a fly. If their is one thing republicans and trolls have in common, its that their mothers never told them, "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all." I personally find some of his comments in direct violation of forum rules, but then again, I'm no lawyer.

Moving right along...

IBM is the powerhouse. IBM, sells their own laptops.

No one else finds it ironic that IBM uses intel chips in their laptops?

And have done so for a LONG time.

IBM doesn't make laptops nor any other personal computer anymore. ;)

So just what can Apple do? It could attempt to put pressure on Intel to give it the necessary chips early. So Apple is doing just that, and sources claim that it isn't flying as well as it had hoped.

Stop the presses! Apple is trying to bully a company with whom it only accounts for less than 5% of their future business, and the company isn't bending.

Really, Apple, this isn't Freescale or IBM where your business is a high profile chunk for the company. With almost every other PC maker buying more than ten times you are what do you think Intel is going to do?

There's NO Evidence Apple is doing any of this. This rumor comes from the Inquire, remember. Apple hating BS.

They got the switch to Intel right, but that was probably a fluke.

They are dead on most of the time. Not predominantly a rumour site, they are a industry news site for the most part. They consistently release information about next generation CPU's, motherboards, videocards, soundcards, or any part of the computer before their launch date and are very accurate somehow. They don't burn apple, its more fair to say if they are satirical toward one company, they really just are like that for all companies. They constantly make fun of Micro$oft, outsourcing, etc. If a corporation makes a bad move and they catch it, they'll poke them just as hard as the next one who does the same thing. Read a few articles from the archives for any subject of your interest and you'll see what I mean.

And you don't think they could have learned of Apple's requests through Intel?

This is the type of rumor that can't be substantiated.
Just like Are's Teck Rant that Apple somehow ordered a lot of chips, and then didn't use them, and then wanted a discount on the chips later?!?
Pure BS.

Let's wait till these guys get 1 rumor correct before we go crazy.
I tend to believe that Apple doesn't act like a 12 year old to it's only suppliers.

They may have requested to Intel that they are ready with their x86 design, and are ready to receive chips. Intel may have said "Great" but the production line isn't running yet.

No.. 'Cheap and Cheerful'. I think you misunderstood.. everything, though.

Then your post was.. well... to vague.

your first post looks to me that you wrong apple for asking a premium for good proudcts, and praise Dell for being "cheerful" (which I don't see).

hope its not true cuz if so that was kind of greed, apples not that big. If sure if apple had gone AMD ,intel would have been ok. Its real it the other OS and they are a great fan base. Its alot about apples name and not ther market share

post 499!!

That would be really nice, but yeah, you are playing in the same pool as the "big boys" now. Unless the architecture for the Mactel chips somehow differs from their standard PC brothers and sisters I doubt that they will be getting that sort of preferential treatment...

but you never know, I mean come on, we are porting an entire operating ststem and making all of our develpoers recompile software for you guys, you could give us a little something to get excited about...

If I'm intel, I'm thinking, "Who do I want representing the true performance of my new chip? An operating system that screams performance, or a bloated hog that does all it can to drag a processor to its knees?"

I don't give a damn what you believe, but let's keep the political discussion to a minimum.

With Intel yes, with Apple no.
Probably because they don't really do the Apple rumor thing, preferring to summarize what others have been saying in that area. Perhaps you have them confused with the Register, who truly do have an abysmal record.

Yes, please. I've had more Mac-related posts be moderated into other threads.

apple probaly realizes that ppc is going nowhere and that their laptops are sorry, so now they want to pentium m in the laptops as soon as possible
