I’ll bet these vibrations aren’t good for humans either after long exposure.
Correct. You're hands can go numb after a while from the vibrations of the bars. I wouldn't mount my phone to my bike, even with a vibration dampener. I use a Beeline, which is designed for motorcycle navigation, and keep my phone in my pocket.

I’d just like to point out that Harleys are vibration and noise machines, and aren’t “high powered”.

When I was in the IEEE, they had an article about chip failures. There were many ways that a chip could fail, and not all of them were vibration., but some of the failures they observed were epic catastrophes in that small world. The gold interconnects failing, some chips were notorious for failures of that type. It's hard to believe that a thin piece of gold wire, thinner than a human hair, can vibrate enough to actually break off of a chip. Incredible...
When I was servicing medical equipment I would take into consideration the physical components like connectors. Honestly, sometimes just whacking it on the side would make the thing work again. That force was enough to move the connectors enough shake everything back to normal. Then I would open it up and tighten thing up or change connectors.

Motorcycle helmet HUDs are still in a “yeah it works, but…” state. There are a few models out there, but they’re expensive and not really ready for widespread adoption.

TFT displays for the dash gauges are becoming more common and are a logical place to display turn-by-turn directions synced from a phone. I have a TFT dash on my newest bike, but despite it working with my iPhone’s music and phone, it doesn’t do GPS. Which is a shame, because there’s plenty of room on the display.

I get voice prompts over my helmet speakers for turn-by-turn, but it would definitely be nice to have visual cues, too.
Something like this?

Some would say you are compensating for something, but the love of going fast is something that I really enjoy. I've ridden my bike (bicycle) nearly 60 mph, and it's thrilling. (And talk about vibration, it's really bad sometimes)

GoPro, VIRB, etc...

I've had the bike since I was a "kid". I bought it in 2000 when I was still in my 20's. I was just cleared to ride it again after a long illness. Riding it is, to me, akin to my flight school days. Sometimes terrifying, sometimes relaxing, but always demanding of your undivided attention. It helps distract me from my day to day and allows me to focus on something other than the mundane brick a brack of daily life.

The truck was both a gift to myself for being 2 years sober (year 3 just passed last Thursday) and a bit of a mid life crisis. At least according to my wife. I think she's probably right.

I haven't treated myself for year 3 yet. I suppose I should, but it seems more pedestrian this year. It shouldn't. I had to put my 12 yr old cat down a week ago today. It was rough, but I was fine. He was my friend. Not a pet, or a companion. He was my friend. Still miss him.

Ok, enough of this. It's a iPhone thread and I've strayed a bit. Here's the second obligatory picture of my friend Buzz.

Sorry to hear about Buzz. I still miss my fuzzy friend Bagel, who's been gone 30 years. I'm often reminded of the lines from Mr Bojangles:

He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
Traveled about
His dog up and died, his dog up and died
After twenty years he still grieves

OK, back to business.

I have a really vague recollection of one of the iPhone announcements in which Apple was showing off the cameras by taking video in a desert, and I think the cameras were attached to off road vehicles or motorcycles or something like that. Didn't even have one where they attached to a hockey stick? It all blurs together. Anyhow, they always show their products in ads taken to the extreme but then of course AppleCare won't cover it.

Edit:

I found one of them (I think there were more like this). They even show the word "SHOT" shaking back and forth and you can see these vehicles are obviously vibrating:

The part about direct mounting and not vibration dampening either handheld or mounts …………

So I can’t use an iPhone on a jackhammer? Or in a centrifuge? Shocking

seriously the faux rage is so funny. Maybe consumer reports can test all camera with motion stabilization and see how they react. That’s how that whole false rage about bending was debunked, you know, when they tested the phones with instruments and found them to be well within acceptable ranges

This is a very easy fix. I use quad lock to lock my iPhone down on the steering wheel. I use a dampener that reduces the vibration. 4 months of riding I’ve had zero issues with the camera or pictures. I have read many people that didn’t use a dampener have had to get the phones repaired. They were doing it for free but I doubt anymore after this article

Wow. A rational person who found a rational solution to a problem instead of going ballistic. Is that allowed in this forum?

I have had zero problems with my iPhone 11 Pro or earlier models going back to a 3G on my Harley-Davidsons. In fact, I repurpose my old phones as a GPS unit with preloaded maps.

I use a TechMount:

As another poster stated...wonder if it is more of a 12 Pro problem?

No explanation necessary. I have a major lust for a Ducati Monster. Would I ride it every day? No. Would I ride it more than a handful of times a year? Hopefully. Would it tickle the last remaining nerves of my misspent youth? Hell yes...

I thought I wanted a Hypermotard, but it's too uncomfortable looking for me to want to suffer to be on it, although I like the single armed rear suspension idea.

But we all live with our needs, wants, desires, and what we can do. The wife thinks my mid-life crisis was the trainer I bought. At least it's safe. Although people have fallen off them and gotten hurt. (really. It floored me to see the number of people who have fallen off their stationary bike trainer and gotten hurt. Like I still have a hard time wondering how, even knowing that it's possible, but tangent...)

I do use a Mac Mini to support my indoor trainer riding. (a vain attempt to bring it back to Apple stuff)

And my divorced brother called me once while I was on the trainer, and asked why I was breathing so hard. I said that I was 'on my trainer', and he said 'Does she have a sister?' To which I responded: 'And some of the family still wonders why you are still single after all these years!' But he had to push it, 'But if she is that good, damn... What's her name?' laughing somewhat maniacally... (I sure hope he manages to stay out of the gene pool :rolleyes::eek::D)

I use this vibration damper for my iPhone 11. Works well but I suspect this is predominantly an iPhone 12 problem

This is exactly what I use with my iPhone 12 Pro. I’ve probably only used it for about 100 miles or so, but so far it seems to work as advertised.
