Of all the features that I want to see in an AW 2, longer battery life is not even on the list, unless a) it enabled an always on display at the current battery life, or b) it was substantially longer... like 7 days. Otherwise, a marginal difference in the battery life with the same functionality is useless (to ME).

Everyone's clamoring about it being a "bigger" battery. That does not mean it will have longer "battery life". If they up the processor speed and add additional components, then the battery life may be shorter.

I'm in the same boat. It has to something drastically different for me to upgrade; not just do the same things potentially longer.

The SCREEN is thinner, which will increase touch sensitivity, this is a good thing. The battery is BIGGER so even if the case were to be thinner, EVERYBODY should still be happy.
except for those who already have one (me) and see no reason to buy another one with this minimal change.

as well as everyone else who didn't buy it and still see no reason to.

So my question is... who is going to buy this?

GPS, barometer, better touch responsiveness, a faster processor, and bigger battery? I have an AW1 and I will buy this as soon as I can. Love the AW1 I've had since day 1, but I feel like these upgrades will really improve the experience, at least for me.

"No one will want this because I don't want this"

This statement is nearly always incorrect.

Looks interesting, but size / thickness is going in the wrong direction. These watches should be paper thin within a few years! Stop trying to stuff useless features in there and make them thinner!

I'm not looking for a thinner Watch, but rather one that has more heft. Perhaps a bigger battery will help in this regard.

I haven't taken the plunge on getting a Watch mostly because I love my Seiko automatic. It's heft feels right on my wrist and given it has survived for 12 years now, never losing accuracy, not requiring new batteries and even regular swimming, diving and my working on cars and equipment it has survived without issue. A bonus is that it gets compliments still on a regular basis - as it's not a high volume watch.

But notifications and fitness tracking are significant draws for me and I'm guessing there will be a Watch on my wrist in the coming few months.

It's shocking to know that this was announced exactly two years ago... And it's still going to keep the same design???

As opposed to the iPhone 7 which is keeping the same design as the two generation old iPhone 6?

Heck, all the iPhones have kept roughly the same design since the original, at least from the front. At least you can change up the straps on the Apple Watch.

With a significantly larger battery and improvements in power usage, it should be possible for them to squeeze out two days of battery life, or an always-on watch face. That would be a significant upgrade.

Yup, I'm a current owner. Buying a new one this holiday season.

I'm glad that I've just been living with the crack across the top of my screen (only visible at certain angles with the backlight on) instead of spending to replace it.

Amazing!!!!

Byte is still around?

70–80% thinner to me is significantly, not "slightly," thinner. Pretty good. Different enough for me to try it on again if new capabilities and performance specs are good.

Read the article more carefully. Despite the thinner display, the overall size will be roughly the same to fit in a larger battery and additional components to the innards.

You're speaking in semantics. A longer battery life measured in mAh (h = hours) is required for an always-on display. You said it yourself if you wanted some more usage time you'd switch off the feature. That is longer battery life.

I'm not sure why but I'll take one more shot at this.

If Apple came out with a new Retina Macbook Air that had higher internal battery capacity to support the new screen, but overall it ended up with the same rated runtime, would you say the new laptop had "better battery life"?

It needs GPS. GPS will require a better battery. It would be nice if it was thinner. Its bulky for me as I have not worn a watch in years.
