But it works fine the vast majority of the time and I'm sure Apple will improve on it further over time. It actually takes people longer to arrive at the correct time on an analog face than for the AW screen to come on.
This may be true for some people but certainly not for me. The on-delay (or, worse, the times it doesn't come on at all for whatever reason) is a UX paper cut that I experience multiple times per day, every day.
Some of the smartwatches that do have always-on actually show a dimmed, crippled face and you still have to wake it up to see the full face, and members here have reported that it's not exactly a good user experience either.
That is actually something I would have to wait and see. Given today's technology, I would expect an Apple Watch always-on face to also be dimmed and crippled. I *think* I would still take it in a heartbeat. What I'd like to see is a minimal always-on face, and then the full face fades in using the exact same detection algorithm they use now.
