It seems like there are lots of runners on this forum.
There are hardly any outdoor runners where I live (LA and Beijing), due to a variety of reasons.
I suspect that outdoor runner market (who needs the GPS) is pretty large in the US but not globally.
As such, I would guess that apple won't address the needs of this market until at least third generation of the watch.

Oh dear, people are happy with the rubbish battery life so they are going to stick more features in. Sounds just like the iPhone then. When will they make as thin as a sheet of paper with an hours battery life?

It would have been interesting if Apple were going to make it cheaper or make smart bands or something, instead of this report claiming they are fixated on the luxury maket.

Titanium would work just fine. It is far more difficult to machine than stainless or aluminum, but it can be produced using conventional techniques. That one is probably more within reach.

Sorry to correct you here, but wished to dispel this view of Titanium.
It has an almost magical media image, even used in films in the past.

We machine it, and stainless every single day of the week, and Titanium can be far nicer to machine than Stainless.
Some grades of Stainless are horrid to machine. Titanium, usually cuts very nicely with the correct inserts, and the swarf chips away very cleanly.

From a CNC machining point of view there is little between them generally, and as I say titanium can behave itself very well and be a pleasure to work with.

It just has this "Magical" image, which also allows companies to charge way way more for things made from Titanium than they are actually worth.

If you spend $10,000 on a gold watch, it'll tell time until it breaks. It won't gain any features.

If you spend $10,000 on an Apple Watch Edition, it'll do everything it can do on Day 1 until it breaks. It also gains features with software updates.

If you want the technology only, you can buy the Sport. You're paying more money for the gold enclosure, not additional technology. It will still be gold for the rest of your life.

It's funny how people on this forum moan about Apple dropping the 30-pin connector, or a CD drive, or USB ports, yet also consider a tech product from last year "obsolete".

The difference being a $10,000 watch that tells time only will most likely last several generations of your family's lifetime, an Apple Watch will last a few years if your lucky. The watch that only tells time will be worth more then any Apple Watch Edition will be during those years.

Poor us. We get to use Apple Watch for like a year and a half before the *rumored* release of this product. I'll try to control myself. Hey Siri, do I feel bummed?

i don't think bummed means what I think it does, is that North American slang?

non-anecdotal source on this?? no, right?

No more so than the comments stating that they would be able to afford a new one/not care about a new release.

It's quite a well known idea; the richer are richer because they look after their money and don't splash out on things unless they have thought it through:

On a personal level, which admittedly is non-scientific and purely anecdotal, I have seen richer people who have cheaper cars, perhaps a "normal" TV screen, and satellite/cable that suits what they want.

It's the "poorer" who I have seen with the more expensive cars, larger TV's and all the channels possible on satellite/cable.

Except that Apple always seeks to please its US audience the most, so you're wrong on that account.

Unless you are Tim Cook or one of the execs, I doubt you know what the hell you are talking about either.
All you and I can do is speculate based on recent data.

As of last quarter, Apple's biggest market is China (Apple sold more iPhones in China than US) and the Chinese market is only expected to grow in the future.

In addition, apple's direction with the Apple watch should tell you very clearly that they're more interested in the general watch buying public than the runners demographic.

the poorer people lease and use credit cards to furnish their place if its beyond what they can actually afford. and technically, they aren't poor, they're middle class. my purely anecdotal evidence is partly in line with yours, in that i do know some rich people who drive regular cars and stay frugal - but these are the rich people who weren't born with money. old money folks (the actual rich people in America, at least) don't even associate with us. they get driven around if they're not flying private jets. and they have investment/old money constantly coming in and incubating them, no matter how they spend it.

i do believe the article about rich frugality you cited is an exception to the rule, hence it being an Interest Piece for those who like to save money. i think people commenting here are too focused on 'ballers' who get lots of jewelry and rims on their leased cars aren't really a part of the equation. there's a whole multiple tiered spectrum of rich people, most of them aren't even on our radar, and they are fueling one of the most robust luxury item markets this country has ever seen. the figures don't lie (google fu record profits in luxury car/jewelry/real estate industries, etc, google record profits in all the financial institutions that keep the mega rich getting richer)...

I got my gen 1 a couple of days ago, I'm not too bothered about this announcement. It does what I want it to. It was expected that it would be updated.

If you wait long enough for any version the next one is always round the corner (as I'm sure others have suggested across 20 pages of replies).

Of course. It's always a smart decision to wait for a 2nd gen. Look at iPad 2 vs iPad 1: cameras, slimmer, ligther, much better hardware (dual core, double the ram), iOS 9 (ipad 1 is stuck at iOS 5).

The problem with that is there will always be a better model coming out next year, so you'll wait forever. I bought an iPad 1 and loved it. A year later I bought an iPad 2 and loved that too. Now I use an iPad Air 2, but that old iPad 1 was handed down to my kids and is still used on a daily basis. In fact that iPad 1 gets used a heck of a lot more than the Air and that is going on many years now.

Ace! This is what I want to hear. After all the delays I decided to wait for gen 2 so I'm glad to see rumours popping up already! Wouldn't mind a facetime camera, it might be neat for taking calls when my phone isn't nearby, or for scanning QR stuff or I dunno. Could be good.

Will the Apple Watch be ever fully working by itself without the need of the iPhone? Will it have LTE cellular connection (if that service is still used in the future) GPS chip and a Bluetooth chip. Is it what Apple is aiming for? Yes GPS chip is a bummer for the fitness app but other than that, without an active internet connection the gps services from Apple is pretty useless. I am talking about Find my watch, Find my friends etc. Let me hear your opinions. This community is great to talk about this

Thanks!

I don't mind that Apple is updating their product. But the every year update is too fast for the consumers to follow the market. I am quite hesitating to buy the Apple Watch when I know it will be obsolete after a year. It is watch in which can be expensive! Apple will never change their product cycle so I am afraid we are stuck to yearly apple watch updates.

Well gee, those all have higher capacity batteries there don't they? I see the original meaning of your post was that Apple should develop magic batteries, thanks for clarifying.

Straw man argument. I never said apple should use "magic batteries", i complained about the bad battery life and said apple should solve it, and the best way to do so is by making the battery larger. another thing is that yes, the batteries in the other phones are larger, but lets look closely, these phones have 4-8 core processors, 2-3 GB of RAM, 1080-1440p screens and run Android, which is not power-friendly, and even after that they still have better battery life, look at the Galaxy Note 4, is has larger 5.7" 1440p screen, 3 GB of RAM, 4 core processor, it runs the horrible touchwiz over android, and after all of that it has a battery that's only 10% larger than 6+'s battery (3220 vs 2915 mah) Yet it still has a battery life that is MUCH better than 6+'s. I Think Apple has a big problem on efficiency.

I mean, they do this with the phone too, just started adding S to the end. That's seemed to work just fine.

I generally think apple does a good job balancing the "hey, why don't they include new must-have tech X (front facing camera, big screen, whatever)" against "I just paid a lot of money for this thing, it should last a few years." Just because a newer gadget comes out doesn't mean you have to buy it.

A watch is even less of a yearly upgrade device as compared to an iPad.
Assuming Apple holds to this schedule, I won't be upgrading every year (still don't know if I'll ever get one) but I don't buy your argument. That was the case for a watch, but this thing is already and increasingly a computer first.
