Am I being overly cynical in thinking that the current watch, if it gets upgraded slightly, will keep its current price point (and maybe lose the discount the Sport model got) and the 2nd Gen will come in at a higher price point? I know that's not normally the case with Apple products, but normally the older generation doesn't get upgraded at the same time.

For people like me with skinny boney wrists the watch is unwearable, so it would be great if Apple designed a really comfortable padded strap, designed for sports use rather then being designer. Would be great not to have to take my iphone out running with me every night.

Have you tried the aluminium (Sport) model with the Sport band? I've heard the band is quite good but have never tried it.

I have very thin wrists, and find the Apple Sport band quite comfortable. You don't need to buy the aluminum watch to get the Sports band, they are sold separately as accessories.

For capturing all sorts of photos on the go when you're without your phone.

When I'm (and likely many others) are on the go, my phone is with me. As a photographer I would not want to make photographs with my Watch. I do make photographs with my phone all the time.

Right on! Bring it! I have a big gift card that I was given by my work just waiting to pick this bad boy up.

But now I'm not sure what type to get, space black, or space grey....

Sure they'll look great

I SPAT out my drink!!!!! OMFG!!!!

What about the bands?

What about bands? I suspect there'll be more. People want them, they're popular, easy to change (thanx to a clever design), Apple makes decent margins, etc. A win-win for all.

The "watch band" meme on MR was sort of funny the first time. Now, months later, it's hackneyed and just identifies people who are likely still in high school and don't have anything interesting to contribute.

I still don't see the point in smartwatches. No matter what features they have, you're always going to be able to do the same thing, and much better, on your smartphone.
Not trying to find my phone to respond to someone at home.
Controlling my appletv from my wrist.
Turning on lights or changing my thermostat away from my phone.
Taking calls away form my phone at home.
Using turn by turn directions without staring at a huge screen.
Leaving my phone in my gym locker and not have a 5.5" phone bouncing around in my pants.
Sleep tracking.
Quick look for time/weather/quick notes/set timers faster/alarms
But you know not really much...

Wow, in reading your posts, you really are an unimaginative cynic. It's to capture a lasting memory to have when your camera is not easily accessible. I've missed many a photo in the time it took just pulling the phone out of my pocket, activating, and swiping to the camera. Just because you aren't interested in something doesn't mean it won't have significant value to everyone else. Fortunately you don't work for Apple.

Thanks for your personal attack simply because I understand that there are limits to things like hardware, physics, battery chemistry, and probable use case for a target market and don't see a legitimate argument for shoehorning in a janky watch camera for the handful of fringe users who want to catch those "precious" moments using a smartwatch. By the way, I really did enjoy the job that people with your mentality did on the Openoffice Mouse.

I agree that a camera is completely useless. How will you be able to make a photo of anything but your own face?
Is it that hard to take a phone out of your pocket?

What I'm more worried about is health. Walking around with a GPS and possible cellular connectivity I cannot help but wonder about the long term health risks.

When Apple touted the health kit and abilities in the new iOS, along with the first generation watch, I thought Apple would really focus on the area of health and work towards being in real competition with the likes of Garmin, Polar, and others. From what I have seen thus far, Apple's focus seems to be more about fashion design and making more and more watch bands, than making a product statement that says, 'the Apple watch is not a gimmick or a hobby product as the Apple TV was seen for, for so many years.'

Edited to add: For what it can do, it is overpriced with a narrow niche market, in my opinion.

I never cared about the LTE rumor on the AW2. Like others all I wanted was GPS. I run with the Garmin Vivosmart HR+, and although I like it the AW has always interested me. Would like to run without my phone! I would not want to pay for another plan just for the AW.

So is GPS just for exercising? Or will i be able to drive around without my phone and use maps for directions?

GPS needs a map to use for directions.

Maps are either pre-loaded or they are downloaded via internet connection.
AW does not have its own internet connection and is unlikely to come with a map pre-loaded.

Buy a navigation GPS.

With Watch OS3 coming out, I think the gen 1 product is perfect for my needs still. I always have my phone on me in my fitness waistband pocket in case of emergencies while Im out running around the neighborhood. I do see the GPS convenience for a lot of people, but I wouldn't be caught running my trail without my phone just in case something happens lol. As for LTE I could care less for it, because I don't want another data plan nor would I care to sacrifice the current battery life we're all getting. I think at this point I care about software features more than adding more sensors. I'll keep crossing my fingers for a watch face app store down the road!

I have had my Apple Watch since April of 2015. Wear it every day, all day.
The battery life is fine, have never gone to bed with less than 40% left.
I would have no use for GPS, as I don't run. I would venture to say that most Apple Watch users are not runners requiring a GPS. I would prefer a thinner watch, and yes, more bands! Right now I have 6 bands, and swap them out often.
Faster and thinner to me, would be much more important than a GPS, Camera, or Sim Card. My phone bill is enough each month with out adding one more device.

I'm just going by the fact that Apple wants cellular so the camera is clearly lower down the list. Plus Apple has continually beat the drum that this is a health related device. So because of that I have to believe there are more/better sensors that they'd like to put in before a camera.

It's not that I think a camera is a stupid idea, it's that from Apple they make it appear they have other higher priorities.

But their priorities are not mutually exclusive. I actually think they put too many features in the watch to begin with, and that likely held them back from meeting their original launch window, considering they previewed several software features that didn't actually show up in the watch until watchOS 2.

They can easily add a camera and enhanced health features, or cellular radios at the same time.

While I don't disagree that Apple definitely may have more practical priorities that don't necessarily included the camera, they also need to sell the watch ... rather badly it would seem by some accounts. And nothing sells like social media features -- "Never miss a moment with the Watch ... with the Watch FaceTime camera, when you're out on an evening jog with your spouse, enjoying the freedom of leaving your phone behind, you don't have to miss that special moment as you share a beautiful sunset together". And so on.

I will never understand why you would want a camera in a wearable...

Then you are not the target demographic for it. No need to try and explain it really ...

No, YOU are not the target demographic for wearables.
