I'm not sure why everyone us speculating so much on pricing, since Android/Samsung has had LTE smartwatches for years, and the prices range from $5-$10/mo depending on your carrier (I think most are $10), I'm not sure why that would change with the Apple Watch.
ask them how customers are currently paying for cellular service for their watch at $5-$10/mo.

*sigh* was really hoping for a slimmer design. Oh well, on to Apple Watch 4.
Adding LTE capability will need bigger battery, it is going to be a while watch gets smaller/thinner the technology has to improve a lot before it can shed some weight/thickness, i am sure Apple is obsessed with thickness/weight.

I still don't get the point of the Apple Watch. I ended up buying one for a few weeks, but returned it and was able to buy an iPad for the same price (all from Target). For the same price point, that's a pretty big jump in functionality, given the only thing an Apple Watch can really do is just read the notification screen from my iPhone.

Anyway, I guess the benefit of having an LTE equipped Apple Watch is that you MAY no longer need an iPhone to run it. Perhaps Apple are doing this to penetrate the Android market, using the watch as a stand alone device. Otherwise, there is little point to adding another device to your plan at $10-20 extra per month!!

Lot's of folks don't understand smart watches and that's OK it's nice that those who do can have them and with increasing functionality.

I have an Apple Watch series 1 and I like it but I really like Fitbit's app and all I want from my Watch is fitness tracking.

I guess I need to wait till Fitbit announce their new Blaze and compare it to the Apple Watch 3.

Get an Apple Watch if you want a fitness tracker that works and looks good.

Do you always have your iPhone in your hand?

That seems to be the main reason why so many find it pointless to have a smartwatch.

Others, who keep their phone in a purse, or who are in offices (or meetings) where using a phone is frowned upon, find a notification watch to be especially useful.

Why? I had the same notion. Maybe because I'd previously owned a "painted on" thin Swatch.
Then I got a 2nd hand Apple Watch to try it and now I honestly couldn't care less about the thickness.
It's so comfortable I need to look at my wrist to see if I remembered to put it on when I got up in the morning.

Because on small wrists the Apple Watch still looks ugly. Just my opinion.

I still don't know why anyone would want LTE in the watch, battery killer, extra plan. no thanks

Why would you ever stick with an AT&T grandfathered plan? I dumped mine this winter. Their new unlimited plan is $30 cheaper and allows tethering and verizon and tmobile do the same for even cheaper than that.
Corporate discounts make my grandfathered plan cheaper.

Really was hoping for something other then LTE, really couldn't care less about that.. What I wanted was a round watch!! Tired of the 80's style calculator watch look :( Need something classy looking. Its sad they can't come up with an elegant design as a watch is very much a fashion item too. Adding LTE is useless for most people. Apple is seriously slacking!! Will have to start looking at Android Wear I guess.

AW is an iPhone with small form factor. AW is not a watch, because a watch must! be round. Waiting for a real AW......

Have you been to a movie lately? Selfish people look at their phones after the movie has started so a dimly lit watch face wouldn't be bothersome as a bright 6" screen but to address the watch. Just have it so Theater mode turns off the Always on display or dims it . It would be no different than regular watches people where today that glow or have a digital watch.
You don't know what is happening on someone's display. You call it selfish but if someone calls me or texts me, I'm going to check it no matter whether it interrupts your 7$ movie or not. Now, obviously, I'm not going to answer a call or respond to a text in the theater but I have the right to check and make sure everything is ok at home, as do you and I'm sure you have before. People have/may have legitimate reasons to check their phone and it's pretty selfish that you think your 7$ movie ticket supersedes their 7$ movie ticket.

I'm not interested in debating this because I've tried before and people just don't understand that not every notification is social media.

There are jerk people out there, in masses, but to throw a blanket statement over anyone who has illuminated the display of their smartphone, in a theater, is pretty absurd.

YES! Ceramics....sigh...wish we get those.
What do you mean? Apple came out with an all-ceramic and sapphire watch last year. I guarantee it costs less than the Omegas douglasf13 is talking about lol

The form factor is okay. I hoped they would implement scratch proof material on bottom side of the watch.
The Stainless version has always had a ceramic bottom and with Series 1 and 2, all Apple watches come with a ceramic bottom.

Apple will never make a round watch.

Just like they won't make a GIANT iPhone you can't fully control with one hand like those silly Android ones.
Or product a Stylus/Pencil for their Tablet as they pointed out how crazy one would be.

Oh, wait a minute!

Basic health/fitness tracking and convenience are the reasons to buy an Apple Watch. Now an iPad? No thanks, not until it runs MacOS or until iOS for iPad is more robust and useable. It's just a big iPhone without cell reception unless you pay a premium.

I'm just giving you a hard time, iPads are useful but nowhere near as useful as a 12" MacBook. But I know you are talking about the dirt cheap iPad. I'm curious how much storage you get when buying that iPad.

To me, it's like having the remote control to a television. Doesn't let me do anything I couldn't do before, but I appreciate the added convenience.

Sure, I can use Apple Pay on my phone, but it's faster on my wrist. I can take out my phone to look at the notifications whenever I feel it vibrate, or I can look at my wrist (and even respond to them). Having Siri on the wrist lets me make quick calculations.

I find there isn't that one killer app for me, but it's a collection of little conveniences which just makes it a nice complement to my phone overall. Whether that makes it worth the price tag, well, YMMV.

Yet, ss scratches especially the bottom part.

Edit: i meant ceramic part under the watch. That area seems to be sensitive.

Meh, Apple Watch. Mine is a glorified notification center at this point. I still like it but it needs a refresh in design for me to buy another one, something more stylish and less geek, and no thanks to paying extra for LTE on a watch.

I generally prefer scratch/bend vs. no scratch/break, but, either way, we do have a ceramic AW. The Edition.
