Transaction limit raised to £30 today for contactless payments in the UK.

Provided the terminals have been updated, yes. Also means that those that are waiving the limit for Apple Pay should start happening today too, which I believe Boots is one of them. Hopefully Waitrose and the other official Apple Pay partners will follow.

Annoyingly, the only place I've had any sort of an issue with Apple Pay is in my local NISA store, where I was trying to buy something that cost under £5. Because they have a £5 minimum spend for card transactions, they apply the same to contactless.

I can see why they would do that, but it's extremely annoying, since you can only use it for transactions between £5 and £20 (now £30 hopefully).

Waitress just told me they are getting new terminals on 17th September and the £30 limit will be introduced then.

FFS - Waitrose are a launch partner. They should be removing the limit completely....or at least set it at something like £200

Just your branch? Or nationwide? Not been into my local one yet.

Well I guess they can't help not having new terminals in time.

They don't need new terminals, they need new software. I suppose they should be able to find ' Limitless Super Efficient Organic Terminal Update Package' in the Waitrose Essentials range. Failing that, an update from their terminal supplier should do the trick.

They might need new terminals. Older models support the £30 update, but not the Apple Pay unlimited part.

I used my watch on the tube today - worked fantastic! And NFC terminals in Boots terminals at Euston were showing the ApplePy logo, so it looks like they are fully updated there too.

Can you help me understand how it works on the tube? I read the transport for london website but still don't really understand.

Can you (without any prior set up) go on the tube and use it, it'll just charge you the correct amount when you exit?

Yes, correct. No prior setup required.

If you register the card against your TFL account online, you get journey history, payment history and can claim for refunds.

It's a software update from what I understand and the higher payments allowed as part of Apple Pay hasn't rolled out in the UK yet

The software update allows £30 on all terminals and enable newer models to waive the limit for mobile devices. Older terminals do not have the hardware that can tell the difference between NFC cards and NFC mobile devices. That's what I'm trying to say, in case you're misunderstanding.

Ah sorry I see what you're saying now

Yes, just register the card you want to use with ApplePay on the Tube on the TfL website. That's it.

I thought you did have to. I always have done (and I was in the public Beta). But if other people have done it without, clearly not.

Try it and let us know. Just don't do it with a big queue behind you!

I've used it in a big queue, no issue if you double tap to have it ready. Just as quick as oyster or other contactless.
