Tried my local Starbucks last week and they had reverted to non-contactless cardreaders.
Transaction limit raised to £30 today for contactless payments in the UK.
Waitress just told me they are getting new terminals on 17th September and the £30 limit will be introduced then.Provided the terminals have been updated, yes. Also means that those that are waiving the limit for Apple Pay should start happening today too, which I believe Boots is one of them. Hopefully Waitrose and the other official Apple Pay partners will follow.

FFS - Waitrose are a launch partner. They should be removing the limit completely....or at least set it at something like £200
They don't need new terminals, they need new software. I suppose they should be able to find ' Limitless Super Efficient Organic Terminal Update Package' in the Waitrose Essentials range. Failing that, an update from their terminal supplier should do the trick.Just your branch? Or nationwide? Not been into my local one yet.
Well I guess they can't help not having new terminals in time.

They might need new terminals. Older models support the £30 update, but not the Apple Pay unlimited part.
I used my watch on the tube today - worked fantastic! And NFC terminals in Boots terminals at Euston were showing the ApplePy logo, so it looks like they are fully updated there too.
It's a software update from what I understand and the higher payments allowed as part of Apple Pay hasn't rolled out in the UK yet
Yes, correct. No prior setup required.
If you register the card against your TFL account online, you get journey history, payment history and can claim for refunds.
The software update allows £30 on all terminals and enable newer models to waive the limit for mobile devices. Older terminals do not have the hardware that can tell the difference between NFC cards and NFC mobile devices. That's what I'm trying to say, in case you're misunderstanding.

Yes, just register the card you want to use with ApplePay on the Tube on the TfL website. That's it.
I thought you did have to. I always have done (and I was in the public Beta). But if other people have done it without, clearly not.
Try it and let us know. Just don't do it with a big queue behind you!
