Absolutely. I was about to post the same thing.

As is so often the case, people post without really thinking it through or testing the solution themselves. I believe these are the same people who insist on using the "..gate" and "first world problems" phrases. Enough said.

Thanks for these detail about the movie for those of us who haven't seen it. And why are you posting about that here? You could have restrained yourself.

haha just teasing, i have not seen it either, take it easy there pal.

Completely inappropriate for this forum. All you did was invite some other person to discuss the plot. Does this forum have an ignore feature?

Wait, I think you can just disable the raise to activate feature if I'm not mistaken? Ah, there it is, you can disable it from the watch settings >general. :D

Someone hasn't read the whole thread... ^^

Wrist detection found in the iPhone watch app is not the same as on the Watch -> Settings -> General -> Activate on Wrist Raise on the watch itself.

I went to a movie this past Saturday after receiving my watch on Friday. It lit up in the middle of the movie with movements, but it wasn't distracting or bright. I wouldn't worry about it.

Did you ask the persons sitting next to you? Would really annoy me if there was a light going on and off in my peripheral vision.

By far the easiest solution seems to be putting it into power saver mode.

And then you also save 2 hours of battery. :D

Just tried it myself and you are 100% correct.....watch settings it is for me, GREAT catch

I have a question about the watch in the theater.

If I'm sitting down and I don't want my phone to go off during the movie, if I swipe and set it to "Do Not disturb" mode, then turn my watch into power saving mode, will my phone remain on "Do not Disturb"?

Basically, if I get a text or a call, will my phone go off? I wasn't sure if turning the watch to Power Save mode would alert the phone to start displaying notifications again.

Thanks!

RunPee

RunPee would be a great app to have on the watch because it could vibrate at the good times to go to the bathroom and give you a short synopsis of what happened while you were gone.

Well, if it did not distract me - who's wearing the watch and has the watch right in front of my face, common sense indicated that the person sitting next to me was not distracted either. It's just not that bright like a phone and most watch faces have dark backgrounds.

I guess if the person sitting next to me is one of those that even the mere whisper of the breadth of the person sitting next to them bothers them, then the Watch is probably the least of the concerns. lol

What is the experience when the watch is operating with these settings?

Also, is there a possibility for this movie-going scenario: I can still get taptic alerts felt on my wrist - yet, raising my arm does not turn on the screen. So then at my own risk, I can tap the screen to check out the alerts?

Yes, this is correct.

ETA: Actually, I can't 100% confirm that if you raise your wrist at the moment a notification comes in that it won't display. I don't feel the need to look immediately unless it's a call so, best would be to test it on your ow.

I created a new modular watch face and turned off all the complications just leaving the time in the upper right corner and made that red. It's pretty dim and should do just fine in the theater. I'll test it out tomorrow night.

Chris

This! Thank you! Created one to avoid putting it in low power mode, you get the same sort of clock as in low power mode but you don't have to reboot the watch to get it out of it. it also works so you can wear it in bed without waking up the person next to you when it goes off.. :)

I read the thread and I'm still confused, is it safe to turn off raise to activate through the Watch or through the iPhone? Otherwise, I made a Simple watch face removing all complications and it shouldn't be that bright in the theatre.

Maybe this sounds kinda dumb, but why not just reverse the watch? Like, have it on the underneath of your wrist instead of the top. Then it won't be facing the outside world.

While turning off the raise wrist function is a good solution, most people won't even think of this and we'll be seeing a lot of lit watches in movie theaters.

Movie ushers, talking to each other: "Oh I see the fireflies are out tonight!" :p

Seriously though, doesn't the Apple Watch have a Theater Mode like Android Wear watches ???

I mean, I would hope that Apple would've bought other smartwatches and checked them out for basic good ideas.

That is an outstanding idea.

It reminds me - anyone who forgets to shut off his/her watch at a super dark star party is going to get chewed out.

This is why I'll be sitting on the far right side of theaters from now on.

If you turn off activate on wrist raise from the Settings app on your watch, you can keep your Apple Pay cards. It literally only changes one thing: your watch doesn't light up when you raise your wrist. You can still use Apple Pay.
