Do any smartwatches last longer than a day? Just want to see if they're comparable to the apple watch if they exist

I'll wait until rev 2 or 3. I'm eagerly awaiting actual hands on reviews but right now, too thick and doesn't have any killer features for me.

1 day = 5-6 hours with smartphones

With a big bright color screen on such a tiny device, I'm not surprised by this. But hey! People can just get one of those cases with an extended batt- oh, wait...

"About a day" is worrisome. Unless they're talking "about 24 hours" - which I could live with. Have no issue charging once I go to bed. But when I'm up, the watch has to be as well. Period.

The "starting at $349" is also interesting. Assuming that is for the "entry level" watch, with the watch sport and watch edition versions increasing in cost. And does the "starting at" price include bands or will those be sold separately? Does each edition of the watch come with a set band? And if you want to change, you can buy alternate bands staring at $49?

Questions...

I still can't think of a single reason I would need this.
But I desperately want one.

Rushing a product to market with problems or holding off and getting it right is something that distinguishes the CEO's Tim Cook and Steve Jobs respectively.

Any idea which will be the cheapest version: the regular or Sport edition? And I'm confused; is the material of the regular model not sweat-resistant, etc.? Or is the main advantage of the Sports edition the band (with difference in actual watch material composition mostly an on-paper differentiator)?

"About a day" is not going to be good enough if it really means that "It's a day if you don't touch it.....With normal use, you are gonna have to charge this thing halfway through the day". It will be dead on arrival.

It's intriguing but I can't say I'm a fan of the appearance this time around. I look forward to what comes in the future, including the battery life.

Why the FSCK do you need it for more than 1 day? You take off your watch every single night before sleep. What kind of idiot sleeps with their watch?

what about wireless

What if they are planning to introduce wireless charging with the device either in the Spring release or on the next generation and this is just a safety net for showing the public? We already have a device without an external port. Question is, can induction charging be adapted to wireless without some sort of miracle? I don't know anything about either type of charging.

I still wonder about how we're supposed to listen to the music it's controlling. Do they expect us to have a wire coming out of our pocket and control that with the watch? For physical activities like running and cycling, I don't think wireless beats headphones are going to be the best option

This is what I expected. We have seen huge advances in cell phones and now this watch looks pretty darn amazing once it's potential is realized. The problem is the batteries are staying the same. I wasn't expecting much out of battery life but hopefully that will get better with time.
What I do like about the iWatch is the potential it offers, mainly with Siri. "Hey, Siri" is cool, but your phone has to be plugged in the be listening. Well now we have a Siri listening to us right on our wrist. So instead of either having my phone plugged in or pulling it out of my pocket I can potentially lift my wrist and say "Siri, lower the thermostat two degrees."

Yeap this is one of the reasons why I'll wait for the 2nd generation.. if i get one;)

I guess that also rules out the use of the Apple Watch like a Fitbit, Jawbone UP, or Pebble Watch as a vibrating but silent alarm unless the charge time is a couple hours and you could charge it at 8pm and have it ready to wear again before bed.

It depends on the charging time. I have no idea how long it takes to charge a battery with tiny capacity. If it can charge in the time that it takes me to shower and get dressed, that would be fine. You could then wear it overnight.

For example at home with your Mac connected to your HiFi using a good old line-out cable, or your iPhone plugged into your HiFi. Or iPhone with headphones, but the iPhone can stay in your pocket.

I think expectations of battery life beyond a day with technology at its current stage is unreasonable. battery in the strap? really, think how think the strap would become, be realistic.

Charging it each night I don't see a problem with. I do that with my phone already, and I take my watch off each night too and place it beside the phone ... so its hardly a great chore to place it on a magsafe style charger beside the phone.

In fact, the clever solution should have been to have the iPhone use a similar charging method, so you can place them both beside each other.

Insert unreasonable expectations here: _________________

I agree that many folks have unreasonable expectations for some kind of wearable watch...but you also should understand there are/were plenty of forum members/fanatics here that bashed Samsung, LG, Motorola for releasing smart watches with batteries that only last a day.

I hope your comment was for those forum members.

No kidding. I saw a comment in another thread saying "what happened to the flexible screen?!?!" People have their expectations and dreams sky high and then are disappointed when Apple doesn't invent a flying pony or something.

I don't know why people are so set on it lasting more than a day. I go to bed, I charge my iPhone, if I was going to buy an iWatch I'd do the same thing. o_O Not so difficult. Now, the worries about just what 'a day' actually means in RL, I understand.
