I am a total Apple nerd and watching the ads I really wanted one but I didn't want one enough to spend that kind of money on a toy. Gen 2 will likely be a huge step forward, if it isn't then they may as well discontinue it

I don't think so, but I think it's unfair to look at the graph of this story and say that demand is weak. Demand was so high on launch day and even if Apple continues selling 20,000 per day that's about 600,000 per month which isn't that bad.

And keep in mind the graph only counts the United States.

And doesn't count in-store sales, and doesn't count anyone that doesn't opt-in to having their mail tracked, etc.

I must be in the minority here, I bought a sport 38mm on the first day and I have just come to love it. I use it mainly for tracking my exercise, text alerts/replies and news notifications. I don't use it for email as I don't find that useful yet. Mine just bricked though, so it's in the shop and I miss having it as I have gotten quite used to it. However, I agree with some of the others here, the marketing and launch was just terrible and there are too many configurations, Apple got greedy and maybe some bad advice as they should have made one product with different band colors and sold it for $299 and it would have been a HUGE hit. It's just too expensive for people to try out and whenever I go into an Apple store, very few people are even looking at them:(

Exactly...
I really question whether this will go the way of the Apple TV where it sits along the wall at the Apple Store and every once in a while someone goes over and buys one.

It is not a revolutionary product. It's an expansion device to the iPhone, much like a BT earpiece.

Mark my words, the Apple Watch will evolve into some other type of wearable, like a touch sensitive projector on the back of your hand or forearm, like this:

Errr - I think i'll keep my Watch to be honest, thats horrendous.

I use mine less after the first month. I thought it would be more useful. Recently, I had to wipe my phone and I had to lose all my workout info. No way to backup my workouts. Perhaps my bad experience is just unique to me but my feeling about the Apple watch matches the sales graph.

Isn't health and fitness data included in your iPhone backup? That would be a pretty surprising bug if it weren't.

I think I read that you have to use an encrypted backup for health and fitness data to be included... is that why you lost it?

Because you have access to a charger every /other/ night?

I keep seeing this about battery life, I charge mine every 2-3 days and that's wearing it for at least 6-10 hours per day (shut it off at night) so the battery has been great for me and I use my iPhone less so more battery there as well.

It's only included with the encrypted backups to your local machine.

I am puzzled by the watch. I think it is interesting and possibly great for workouts but I really don't like the aspect you need an iPhone and it is not waterproof.
Honestly when I go to the Apple store I look at it and it does not strike me as a must have like I feel about other Apple gear. I am not hating, I am being honest. I love Apple for more than 20 years and have tons of their stuff but the watch hasn't hook me yet. Maybe future versions. We'll see.

So, if it were waterproof and had a SIM card you would leave your iPhone at home from now on?

I just sold mine, I'm afraid. I received it on launch and just didn't find myself using it often. I'd wear it daily but rarely even used it. Unfortunately it didn't change my daily life like the iPhone or iPad did and it's just an extra accessory. I'm really hoping the 2nd generation one makes the leap the 2nd gen iPhones and iPads did.
Same here.. I sold it for more than I purchased it after owning/playing with it for a month. I'm hoping the v2 really wows me.

Bought one for my wife and myself and we love it. That being said it's pretty expensive for a novelty so not everyone is going to get it.
No, it's very cheap for a watch. But proper watches last far longer than 24h and will be worth more in years to come.

Or "Apple Ornament" as mine has become. In the hope that a fix arrives today, I'm wearing it, turned off. You've no idea how much developerizing I haven't been able to do since beta 2 2.0, since the device wouldn't stay on for more than thirty minutes at a time.

The watch can only tell time without having an iPhone. I'm amazed that is sold as many as it did, but just liked I figured people would see if for what it really is.... I still find mine useless, but I do like the ping feature since I always lose my phone.

It will also track workouts, play music to bluetooth headphones, work as a timer and stopwatch. All the things a regular watch will do plus a few more. Pair it with the phone and you can put your phone away and still stay in touch with notices, messages, etc.

I'll agree with that.

I don't - it doesn't do everything a phone does, and with that screen size it won't for a long long time (until interaction changes so much that the screen doesn't matter). Given which, the tie to the phone simply isn't a drawback - I have my phone anyway, so there' no lost viability for a device depending upon me having it.

I really like my Sport. Wear it every day, from morning until night. Best health device I've owned. I like having the time again on my wrist (unlike my Fitbit). Being able to glance down to see notifications is a nice convenience. There is still work to do and I wouldn't blame anyone waiting for version 2.

If you think the Apple Watch was 'highly anticipated' you'd be wrong. Launch was soft and now sales are in the toilet. Maybe this can be a lesson to Apple to come out of the gate strong with a new product - don't neuter it, hit a homerun.
Right because you have sales data to know that sales are in the toilet.

I think MR needs to put up poll asking how many MR members have their email tracked by Slice Analytics. My guess is no one does.

But this isn't surprising. MR ran plenty of stores about the iPhone 5C allegedly being s failure too even though there wasn't a shred of solid evidence to support it.

How is it expensive? It's very cheap for a watch! I'll stick to Swiss ones that last longer in every way possible thanks.

Some people really need some perspective! These numbers would imply more that $10 billion in first year revenue from the Apple Watch. By what measure would this be considered a flop or comparable to the Apple TV "hobby"?

Worth more in what way? Resell? If you thought this was a purchase intended for resell then you made a mistake. The value it gives right this minute is the reason to purchase and the basis for the purchase.
