So, if it were waterproof and had a SIM card you would leave your iPhone at home from now on?

You did not get my point. I like the device for workout and I don't want to carry the iPhone alongside. Waterproof is a must on any watch for ME. I don't like to take the watch out if I am at the beach and want to jump on the ocean, etc.

Again, this is my personal opinion and I am sure the watch fits the bill to many and tons of people love it.

I use mine less after the first month. I thought it would be more useful. Recently, I had to wipe my phone and I had to lose all my workout info. No way to backup my workouts. Perhaps my bad experience is just unique to me but my feeling about the Apple watch matches the sales graph.

My Apple Watch is great as both a unique product and an accessory product. Won't go into all the great use cases here but I lost my workout data too before learning how to properly save it. I recently learned that you can save all of your health data only if you save it to iCloud or encrypt it when you backup to iTunes.

I am a total Apple nerd and watching the ads I really wanted one but I didn't want one enough to spend that kind of money on a toy. Gen 2 will likely be a huge step forward, if it isn't then they may as well discontinue it

If it felt like a lot of money then you were right not to buy one. Only purchase what you can pay cash for and easily afford. You did well.

Just a coincidence that the numbers provided by a company that relies on email receipts for data mining drop off right about the same time as Apple Watch becomes available for in store purchase?

Not to mention when the sample is voluntary you shouldnt even be using the data for any type of statistics.

Apple Watch sales in the United States appear to have slowed down significantly in June based on new data that research firm Slice Intelligence shared with MarketWatch. Following a steep decline in the days after Apple Watch pre-orders commenced, which is to be expected of any product, daily U.S. sales remained relatively stable through May before experiencing a large drop-off last month as launch momentum begins to wane.

Apple-Watch-Sales-Slice-Apr-to-Jun-2015-800x450.jpg

The report claims that Apple is now selling fewer than 20,000 watches per day in the United States, and fewer than 10,000 on certain days, while the logarithmic chart above indicates that sales dipped to as low as 4,000 to 5,000 units per day in late June. The data does not account for sales in Canada, Australia, United Kingdom or the twelve other countries where the Apple Watch is sold outside of the United States.

Slice Intelligence claims that two-thirds of Apple Watches sold to date have been the entry-level Sport model, far outselling the more expensive stainless steel Watch and 18-karat gold Edition models that start at $549 and $10,000 respectively. The research firm estimates that Apple has sold fewer than 2,000 luxury Apple Watch Edition models in the U.S. through June.

Slice Intelligence previously estimated 1 million Apple Watch pre-orders at launch, an average 30,000 Apple Watch sales per day in late May and an estimated 2.8 million total sales as of mid June. The research firm's sales estimates are based on e-receipt data from online shoppers in the United States that opted-in to have their inboxes tracked for email receipts.

Apple has not publicly disclosed any Apple Watch sales figures since the wrist-worn device launched in April, and will be grouping the device under its "Other Products" category, which combines sales of Apple Watch, iPod, Apple TV, Beats Electronics and accessories, in its quarterly fiscal reports. Apple's Q3 FY 2015 results are scheduled to be released on July 21 at 2:00 PM Pacific.

If you think the Apple Watch was 'highly anticipated' you'd be wrong. Launch was soft and now sales are in the toilet. Maybe this can be a lesson to Apple to come out of the gate strong with a new product - don't neuter it, hit a homerun.
Oh you mean like they did with the iPad? Because that sold extremely well in the first gen plus the iOS software today took so much full advantage that nobody complained

You can back up workouts by using encrypted local backups or backing up to iCloud, I believe.

No way to restore to a new iPhone build. If I used the backup feature, I would just backup and restore the same problem I had with my iPhone. I started with a fresh iPhone. I can sync my TV shows, movies, music, contacts, mail, etc. Just not my workouts. I use PhoneView and I could (for example restore my Angry Bird game progress), but no workout info.

You don't need to take your phone after the first few workouts. I wear my watch swimming no problem. I get what your saying though. You need it certified waterproof so if it gets water inside it can be exchanged with less hassle. I'm taking chances with mine but I'm willing to do so. Been great so far. The water parks were not a problem either. :)

The watch can only tell time without having an iPhone. I'm amazed that is sold as many as it did, but just liked I figured people would see if for what it really is.... I still find mine useless, but I do like the ping feature since I always lose my phone.

That's not entirely true - I went for a run this morning with just my watch and it tracked my exercise and played music through my headphones while my phone sat at home.

Everything is kind of happening as expected. I'm not sure what the issue is here. Apple will iterate the device in future gens as the price drops a bit and we'll see the mainstream jump on it.

So, if you have data based on derived data, that becomes facts at Macrumors?

There are a lot of people tilting at windmills on these pseudofacts.

I'll wait until verifiable evidence comes in.

As for the :apple:Watch, I like mine. However, I use it for easy monitoring of blood glucose levels with the Dexcom Share (which needs some work, but it's nice!)
Workouts, yeah, I started working out since I got it (ride bike to work now)
News updates
Calendar updates
Apple TV remote
Apple Pay
Stuff that I need to look at for 3 seconds or less.

It is an accessory, yes. An expensive one, kind of, but that depends on the person. I saved my pennies, and I'm glad I got one. It's now seamless for me.

It's pointless comparing Watch sales to iPhone sales... it'll never come close. iPhone sales make up more than half of Apple's revenue these days (just look at that graph they pull out every earnings call).

I suspect that the Watch sales are meeting expectation. And the super high margins are creating some extra tidy profits, to pay for some cool stuff in the new Apple HQ! ;)
So Apple will be happy.
Everyone who bought one and likes it will be happy.
Everyone who is waiting for the thinner Watch 2 to come out next year will be happy.
And the rest of us who have absolutely no need for the watch are happy without it.

I'm not sure who is left to be 'unhappy'?

Oh, you mean starting over new and not restoring from backup? I would expect this. What you're doing by manually pulling data is an extreme edge case.

If it had a native podcast app I would buy one. Seems like a huge oversight to me. It has been in CarPlay from day one

I got the stainless with Milanese loop. I had not worn a watch in several years, and I really do like having a nice watch again. However, they've got to get native apps on the Watch ASAP. I use the Run Keeper app and it is a pain having to use the Watch workout app to get my heart rate and all that, but use Run Keeper to track my run. Really want Run Keeper to be able to do both.
