And the real reason crops up, "I'm a watch person"

I find "watch people" are not happy with smartwatches in general, particularly the Apple Watch.

NachoGrande, am curious what business is issuing Apple Watches?

The company isn't issuing them. I'm in marketing and someone gave it to me.

Exactly the opposite. In words that you would probably use. What you jelly. Or some other kid lingo.

Why would it make any diffence. Why would anyone care if I got it free or not!?!? The reason I posted seperate was becuase I never wanted an apple watch. But since I was given one I wanted to like it. However it's terrible and if I had bought it I would have been disappointed. I'm glad you like keeping track of you steps and stuff cool. I don't need to track my steps.

And I'm a watch person and this is not quality.

You may not think its good value, but it certainly isn't terrible. If you never wanted an apple watch you probably didn't take the time to really explore it and find out what is good about it. I've found some stuff is just novelty. I've found some stuff just isn't made to be on a watch. But in the end, I have also found a lot of stuff I really like. The more I use it, the more I sort apps into their respective bins, and the more I find the most efficient ways of doing things, with or without the watch.

And I'm a watch person too. My Apple watch splits time with a Swiss auto that I'm also a really big fan of. Unless yours broke, I have no idea how you can say it isn't quality. Unless you just want it to be heavy for no reason.

For the record, mine was a gift as well. Ive been pleasantly surprised. Overall, it's been better than I expected.

Well, this is fascinating.

You've never had a thing where you knew it will turn out one way, even though you wanted it to turn out the other way?

I'm not sure this is the best place to discuss human psychology, but that isn't what I said. I said that disappointment (for me) isn't a function of whether the result is positive or negative (as you said it was for you) but of where the result sits with what my expectations were.

I agree this is off-topic, but I have to say, I don't understand your pov. Say you want Team A to win a game, but you expect them to lose, because their opponent is a lot better. They do lose, so your expectations were met. Are you saying you won't feel even a bit disappointed?

I'm not sure I'd pick that analogy, but no, I wouldn't.

By the way, I also work in advertising and marketing. I get loads of freebies, too. So no. Not "jelly." Bless your heart.
Are you Philip Schiller? That would be the only reason someone could get so bent out of shape over someone posting a negative review of a watch...

Okay, maybe we have a different definition of "disappointment"? Anyway, to me it makes perfect sense that something we expected can also be a disappointment. And I think I've done all I can to explain why that is, so I'll leave it at this.

Again, bless. I'm not bent out of shape at all. Haha! I just find your posting to share with everyone you got a free Apple Watch irritating, and you start by essentially saying, "I knew it would suck." There are limitless threads with this topic. Your opinion deserved a whole new thread, did it?

Why not just give the watch away and spare us all? You knew you'd hate it, and you do. NEWS AT 11!

I doubt it's a different definition of disappointment - it's not a hard concept to grasp - just a different experience of it if and when it happens. Hardly unusual, really. But then, that's why I asked the OP the question in the first place.

Well, they expected it to be terrible, and it was terrible, lol.

But I'm curious as to what it would have taken to satisfy the OP. The matter of build quality aside, they said they found the Apple watch "pointless." So OP, if you are reading this post -- what do you think is the point of a smartwatch?

Lots of people pay well over $400 for "just a watch" that won't do anything else but keep time and possibly the day, date, year. If you like you might find one that also tells you the month and has a moon phase. There's some fancy watches that "automatically" update the time using the signal from the Atomic clocks located throughout the World. I have a similar Citizen that I paid in excess of $400 for. It's a nice watch. I wore it often. It kept great time and would notify me of the day and date. It even has a stop watch functions and slide rule built in. My Watch does all that and so much more. So it's well worth the $400+ for watch people. It's a nice, well made piece of jewelry. And at the end of the day a watch is nothing more than a functioning piece of jewelry. Well, not the Watch. It's a beautiful tether to your iPhone and most of what it does.

It's the internet and he's expressing his opinion. Just because it doesn't line up with your own doesn't make it pointless. I've been anti Apple watch ever since they first showed it off, but I finally bought one the other day because my team will be developing an app for it and I thought I'd better understand how it works. But I can't bring myself to open the box (still haven't) and posts like this are helping to steer me away from opening.

So struggle no more.

I really struggle with the point of posts like this.

Your original post essentially saying that you're unhappy with the watch hardly qualifies as a "review".

And I quote your OP:

"So I got a free Apple Watch 42mm Sport at work. I can't believe how "unapple" this watch is. I've admittedly been anti Apple watch, but this confirms it. Clunky, flimsy and other than a step counter it's pointless...

I'll keep it as a novelty, but if I would have paid $400 for it I would be pretty bent."

Dissenting opinions are like kryptonite on this forum.. Apple is amazing the make no mistakes they only release AMAZING products.

I think my review was pretty clear. It feels cheap, the crown feels flimsy and the fact that is must be paired with and iPhone makes it pointless. Gave it a fair shot, but I don't like it and I'm glad I didn't spend money on it. That was the point. Why mr pirate is so focused on the fact that I got it free is beyond me. Arghhh  it's the exact reason I created a new thread. I didn't go into it with optimism, but was hoping for the best. It let me down.

I will develop some apps for fun but I'm not a fan. <Sarcasm> Maybe if I knew some other people I can send a drawing to them or maybe my heartbeat. Maybe get crazy and draw some d pics.</sarcasm>

You couldn't be more wrong. His post is pointless and he couldn't even express more than mere generalities. Posts are steering you away from opening a product?! Wow, just wow!!

I can't tell if you're being serious about the Breitling. Of course it's better. It's also 10 times the cost. I've got a Tag Heuer Carrera which is obviously a lower end Swiss watch. Still, the craftsmanship is much better than my Apple watch. But it's a poor comparison. Nobody seems to complain when a civic is slower than a Ferrari.

Why post a picture of a Breitling watch? Those things can't give me real time directions to my destinations, communicate with my friends, or tell me how my stocks are doing--truly pointless devices. ;)

I was posting it as a response to a poster saying that the Apple watch was jewelry. It's not and I was hoping that Apple would have made it that. And yes you are correct the comparison is not fair. My Navitimer is my daily watch and I was looking forward to Apple giving me a reason to switch. They didn't :(

If it were water proof and had the ability to be separate from my iPhone it would be a strong contender. I would love to have a watch that I could take in the lake/pool and have my information available.

Actually the Navitimer is a sun compass, so if you fly it will work just fine ;)

You're comparing Apples and oranges. (Harharhar.)

I don't think Apple is perfect. Far from it. The Apple Watch isn't even close to perfect, but I like it. And — GASP —I even paid for mine! This was just an opportunity for you to tell the world you got a free Apple Watch and nothing more. And oh, yes. You hate it! Right. Fascinating review.
