Actually the Navitimer is a sun compass, so if you fly it will work just fine ;)

Every 12h watch is a sun compass. You don't have to fly at all. Even a tree can give you directions if your into hiking. That's actually cool.
You realize the Tachymetre on the watch too? Do you use these features for your daily commute?

You realize the anchor and the wings? Your pilot, or seamen, your in marketing? God bless you.
I was on your side until this post. You are just a little too negative about others opinion for my taste.

If you don't need an Apple watch then indeed it may be pointless for you. As for myself, an adjuvant device like the Apple watch makes my life eaiser. I have a job where I am constantly talking with people. Being able to quickly glance at my notifications is a huge plus. I probably will answer half of my calls on my wrist now... I just wish that Apple would add Siri in Polish...

You do realize that is was a snarky response correct? But yes, I fly hence the mens watch, but no I would never use any of the features. It's far too small to use. I prefer to use my iPad and standard 6B.

Me Negative? I posted a review about a watch that I was hoping to like, but it was everything that I thought it would be. I was then trolled that I only posted it because I got it for free! Why would anyone care if I got it for free. I simply added that fact because I would have been upset if I would have paid for the watch.

With due respect, your original post isn't a review. You just said you didn't like the watch without giving us any substantive reasons why. As I recall, you said it is flimsy, clunky and pointless. Well, flimsy is a subjective opinion. Clunky, I'm not sure if you were referring to the watch being too thick / too big, or you were talking about the UI. Pointless -- well, what would have made the watch "pointfull" for you?

I can respect a negative opinion if it's presented well, but your post just amounted to "I don't like it, wah!"

So I got a free Apple Watch 42mm Sport at work. I can't believe how "unapple" this watch is. I've admittedly been anti Apple watch, but this confirms it. Clunky, flimsy and other than a step counter it's pointless...

I'll keep it as a novelty, but if I would have paid $400 for it I would be pretty bent.

Sssssshhhhhhhh..... Don't say that out loud.

You better let Yelp know that they've got a bad business model, or that any yelp user is a mindless moron.

Let me break this down for you. I'm interested in people's opinions of the watch, because I was never sold on it (first time I didn't own a new Apple product on day one). It's quite easy to tell which are opinions written by fanboys, and which are posts written by people who don't even own the watch, but just hate Apple. I'm not interested in those posts. I'm interested in honest criticisms of the watch, and I appreciated his post.

I love many of the things Apple does - that's why I have an account here and spend time on these forums, but I have a concern that the watch isn't for me. As it happens, I got bored yesterday and opened it anyway. It does some interesting things, but on the whole, I think it's unimpressive, and it's certainly not worth anywhere near what it cost. With it's current functionality, it's worth $250 at best (I bought the SS with Sports Band so with tax it was just above $600).

So now tell me, is my opinion pointless? Is it not welcome here? Should I have just loved it, or shut up?

You just keep telling yourself that as you let forum posts make up your mind for you.

I agree it feels a bit overpriced, which is one of the reasons I went for the Sports model. But now that I've worn it, I'd go for the Sports model even if the SS were the same price, because even the Sport feels almost too heavy, so the SS will definitely be too heavy for me.

Anyway, I got the watch to experience a new product category and go along for the ride as it develops, not because I thought it would be extremely useful as it is now.

My wife and I independently found the stainless watch a fun, beautiful toy that serves no useful purpose in our retirement lives. Both were returned at 14 days. We'll probably get the Version 2 sport model to play with after apps proliferate.

OP says watch is disappointing. OP keeps watch instead of making 400-500 off of it easy. Therefore OP thinks it's worth keeping at that price, thus indirectly agreeing with the retail price.

I love threads like this

Not exactly. In order to get money for the watch, OP has to make the effort to sell it, either through eBay, Craigslist, or asking around for a buyer. They may well feel that the effort is not worth $400-500. So far, the watch has cost OP nothing, so it's not a bad decision to just keep it.

It's not that much effort. Especially not for 500 dollars.

Well, we don't know how much the OP makes. But say you make $250 an hour. Then if it takes you two hours to sell the watch, that's +$500 for the watch, but -$500 for the time you spent selling it, so you just spent two hours for no net gain.

In other words, for some people, $500 isn't a lot of money, not worth the hassle of selling your free watch to gain that.

I've had my Apple Watch for 2 days. I'm not impressed. I think it's not nearly worth the money I paid for it, but I'm way too lazy to put it up on Craiglist and try to sell it to someone. I just don't care about it, or the money, to go to the effort of trying to sell it. My wife might want it. I don't know, she doesn't seem interested either but I'm sure eventually she'll try it out.

It's not that much effort. Especially not for 500 dollars.

I've been anti Apple watch ever since they first showed it off, but I finally bought one the other day because my team will be developing an app for it and I thought I'd better understand how it works

(I bought the SS with Sports Band so with tax it was just above $600).

I'm just curious here -- you were anti Apple watch and just bought it because you might be developing for it, and yet you spent extra on the SS model? Why would you do that? As I believe I posted earlier, I LIKE the watch, but I bought the Sports model because I was pretty sure I'd be upgrading to the second gen the moment they are released.

Because I was open to the idea that I might like it, and the stainless steel appealed to me more than the sport.

NachoGrande, a couple of things...

1.). Your post is a humble brag because you got it for free
2.). There are what, 2 dozen posts already with nearly identical points, you chose to start yet another thread.
3.). You didn't disclose you were a "watch person" till well into the thread.
4.). You're choosing to keep something you don't like with the shelf life of a head of lettuce, and complain about it in an enthusiast's forum, rather than just listing it on eBay, selling it on Craigslist or even just giving it to someone who'd appreciate it and actually use it.
5.). What do you think the landscape for mech watches will be in 1, 2, 5, 10 years? The quartz watch nearly killed the whole industry once, I don't think it will survive in its current form. I think you're bitching about that new horseless carriage, while clinging desperately onto your buggy whip, and holding a can of axle grease in the other hand. Wristwatches killed the pocket watch, smart watches are going to kill the wristwatch. In 10 years, I fully expect to be wearing a self contained smartphone that works well on my wrist, the phone already seriously gave the watch business a kick in the solar plexus over the last few years.
6.). I hope you're into steampunk, or hang with billionaires who have "people" to answer their phone or emails and texts, cuz I gotta tell you, that's who's going to be wearing mech watches.

Because it isn't useless. You just don't agree with it. Boo hoo.

Do enlighten me on how useful this thread is. OP is given a free Apple watch and like a brat complains about how its lame, flimsy and pointless and that she "may" keep it for a novelty item. Fast forward 4 pages of bickering between 2 female users and now it seems the thread is completely off it's topic.

Oh, it's not so useless -- it's kept me entertained. Even the posts arguing whether it's pointless or not have a kind of charm to them.
