I get the comfort, but it just kind of seems..wrong....

That's because you're not familiar with that design and because Apple is selling the sport band as the low end option. That exact same sport band sells for hundred of dollars as part of the Ikepod lineup and is also sold with Ikepods that sell for well over $10,000. And the bands are nearly identical because it was designed by Marc Newson who is now working at Apple.

There is a story in the UK Mail newspaper with a picture of Prince Andrew wearing an Edition Watch this morning.

Nice watch. I love the edition with the red leather band. Love it, will never have it. Out of my price range.
I like seeing the editions finally being posted, very pretty.

You guys posting pics are not helping me resist buying one! :p

Unfortunately my partner would literally kill me if I sunk such a significant amount of cash into a depreciating asset. No matter how gorgeous!

Congrats though, looks amazing!

First luxo watch for sure. Came close to spending this much on a Rolex but never pulled the trigger. Rather spend it on cars.

oh?

can't wait to see your version of these pics!

I have got to wonder if Apple has some upgrade plan for being able to switch out the watch guts, letting the customer keep the same body. $18k is a heck of thing to upgrade if you want to keep up with technology that is bound to improve exponentially in the next few years!

If the internals of the Edition are the same as the Sport that iFixit tore down, then no there isn't anyway to upgrade it. I'm curious to see how pissed Edition buyers are going to be when they find this out in 2 years or so.

Here are even more.

Idk why but seeing that booklet immediately made me think of the Twenty Anniversary Macintosh.

Here's an in boxing video of an Edition if anyone is interested.

I'm curious, so all Edition Watches come with the same Midnight Blue charging box or only the Sport band models and the Midnight Blue model?

In other news, you drop a minimum of $10k on a Watch and still don't get Apple stickers. Go figure.

When you buy Rolexes and Omegas, does the CEO of the company also hand deliver it to you?
No they wont hand deliver your Rolex or Omega, but they will be worth close to their selling price for the life of the product and handed down for generations. The Gen 1 iWatch will either languish in a jewelry box after the "I A Playa" and novelty wears off or sold for the value of the gold.

Nope. And if they are, they had no business buying a $10k+ watch, much less an Apple product.

The good news is, I can't see any reason why this watch won't last and be functional for as long as the wireless protocols are continued to be used to communicate with the iPhone, since all the watch is, is a fancy remote screen for the iPhone. It doesn't do anything that would need to be obsoleted. Then again, the people who should be buying this watch, likely already have at least 6, or more, $10K+ watches in their collection, probably spending this kind of money every 2 years on a new watch anyway. And considering how indespinsable the thing is to some, I'd imagine they'll buy a new one every year anyway to get a different case material and design, or the latest features, like a camera, proper water-resistance, or GPS, thus giving them several watches to chose from for various occasions.

That charging box makes it totally worth it...

Yeath, "totally"...

Congratz to the happy owners, however, Im yet to see the more expensive version of the Edition with the classic buckle in hands of the general public.

I think that Apple will offer a special update program for Edition owners, like give us back your Apple Edition 1gen + 3.000$ or whatever and will ship you the new Edition 2gen. Seems reasonable and fair deal.

Watchaware blog hates the Edition packaging.

I get what they're saying but at the same time had Apple gone all out with some really expensive and elaborate packaging just for the Edition I can see that bothering people too. Honestly I see the gold watch as 1. Jony Ive & team really being obsessed with Materials Science and wanting to work with gold (Ive said his favorite subject in school was chemistry) and 2. Apple not looking to sell a lot of gold watches but use them more as marketing tools. I see some Beats influence here and wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Iovine had a hand in getting some of these watches on the wrists of celebrities. I think the Edition watch is Apple dipping a toe into the luxury market but I'm not convinced Apple will go full bore into that space. The most we might see new watches with different materials, like platinum or titanium, again more so because of Ive & team's love of working with different materials and processes.

You can already recycle your Apple products at any Apple Store for free. But I agree the Edition will likely come with an Apple Gift Card in the amount of the current price of gold on the day you turn it in. Otherwise, I'd expect the Edition customers might sell the watch to gold merchants, who may not have much regard for otherwise recycling the electronics.

Wow I didn't know any of that, but looking at the Ikepod rubber strap, it's obviously of the same lineage.

I think you're the first Londonner I've seen getting an Edition. Is this your first expensive watch?
