The Samsung gear live scores a 6.8 and that's considered to be one of the lowest ranked wear watches. After that it's 6.6 for the LG G watch only because it's a boring design.
The moto 360 scores a 8.1 and the asus zen a 7.9. Factor in the price difference of $100 (minimum) the Apple watch is a flop. But I have no doubt that it will initially sale because it's a Apple product. Apple has a loyal following.

what do YOU consider a flop? reviews or sales numbers? Because last time I checked, Apple had BILLION of DOLLARS, not good or bad reviews..I love how you think you know Apples profit margin and profitability percentages. Its already a success because it 1) spike interest in Apple 2) created another niche industry in app development 3) created a resurgence in competition in the smart watch market. They upped the ante

so...explain again how you think its a flop?

Is it all day battery life with the screen on? If not then personally I would not say it's truly all day. The Gear S and Moto 360 can both achieve all day battery life with the screen on where you can see the time, I think pretty much all smartwatches released recently can do this.

If not, then it irks me when I have to wait that half a second to see the time pop up, and I've yet to see a wrist flick that works all the time. Even then sometime I don't want a wrist flick, especially if my arm is already being used.

The Verge says skip this and wait for the 2nd gen. Even the Moto 360 released last summer had a better review .

Actually Nilay said "Get the Sports model because the 2nd or 3rd gen is the one you really want." - which means... it's cool but don't blow the bank on this a version 1 device... which can be said about EVERY Apple product in the last decade. The biggest example being the iPad 2, which is still supported today 4 years later.

All Apple devices start off with great battery life. Then after hundreds of re-chargings and 2-3 years of use, your battery life expectency slips.

I'd hate to spend big bucks on one of these and have crappy battery life after 1-2 years of daily use.

Don't you mean "All electronic devices with a battery"?

Well, my fears of the watch seem to be confirmed. I was wondering if Apple could make a watch that would last all day for me, and this tells me "no". If these review units were hitting low battery by midnight, I couldn't make it all day on one. I have the iPhone 6 Plus, and can't make it all day without recharging it before I leave work at the end of the day. Yet reviewers somehow get a day + out of the same phone. So with my battery consumption of the 6 Plus, I'm assuming that the watch would be completely dead before I left work.

Unless you work exclusively off your phone, I really wonder how much actual work you do while at work to be able to drain an iPhone 6+ by the end of your work day ;)

Let's not forget that the Apple Watch will most likely be charged DAILY, which may degrade battery performance in a shorter amount of time.

shorter than a phone, which is also typically & historically charged daily by most? not seeing why that would be.

So the Apple Watch won't meet your needs. There will always be those who are out of the mainstream in their usage habits.

It will meet my needs, though. I will enjoy my Apple Watch while you use something else or wait for version 2 at some undefined point in the future.

Battery life was a big concern for me too. However it's still one more thing you'll need to charge every night, which is annoying. One more proprietary cable to remember to bring with me. Can we even buy more cables at launch?

If I get an Apple Watch, I'm going to fine tune the settings for it so that it doesn't interrupt me with notifications all day. I already do a decent job of managing this on my iPhone. The fewer notifications it receives, the more battery life it will get. Only the most important stuff will come through. The other thing that might improve battery life is having the apps run on the watch itself rather than being downloaded over wireless to the watch every time—which should also reduce the lag of opening up third party apps.

Sorry, but that is one hell of a giant thick chunky lump strapped to her wrist.
Do women today really want something that big strapped onto their wrists?

So BIG and heavy, it's even hanging down on her arm.

Looks horrid, way too BIG:

Really? Even the ones that bring up concerns are still giving it 7 out of 10. USA TODAY loves it!

But most of them are saying "do not buy this" or "buy the cheapest version only", "wait for Apple Watch 2", etc.

The big takeaway I got from all the reviews was there's really nothing new here. This is just an extension of your phone but you can already do everything without it. Nothing new. I now have doubts on buying this.

Maybe you should try working instead of being on your phone all day.

...just busting your chops.

As far as I can tell Apple doesn't have an always on display. So there is no direct comparison for Android Wear devices (which tend to come with ambient display set to on).

Worse than that, the Moto 360 is the only Android Wear device that still turns the display off even when ambient display is on (it is much faster at turning back on though).

yeah, and some sites gave better scores to the more mature 'smartphones' (with physical keyboards in 2007) when the iPhone was first released. they either don't exist anymore, or they look like iPhones.

I'll hold off as these are most of the comments from the reviews.

"The Apple Watch ... is kind of slow."

"Sometimes apps take forever to load, and sometimes third-party apps never really load at all. Sometimes it’s just unresponsive for a few seconds while it thinks and then it comes back."

"It’s also surprisingly heavy."

"[The] side button is extraordinarily confusing."

"In the first of many moments where the Watch felt underpowered, I found that the screen lit up a couple of ticks too slowly: I’d raise my wrist, wait a beat, and then the screen would turn on."

"Having a screen that constantly flips on and off is definitely behind the curve."

"There’s no particularly great digital face, and there’s no ability to load up your own watch faces or buy new ones from the store."

"There’s no master switch to turn all notifications on and off, which is a huge pain."

"By the end of each day, I was hyper-aware of how low the Apple Watch battery had gotten."

"You only get a charging cable, which is lame. For $700, you should a nice charging stand, like you get with the $249 Moto 360."

"There’s virtually nothing I can’t do faster or better with access to a laptop or a phone except perhaps check the time."

Two standards

It is interesting to see these reviews where Apple largely gets lots of goodwill for matching (or even slightly bettering) the promised 18 hour battery capacity.

Most other manufacturers would be ridiculed big time in the press if they delivered a smart watch and only promised that it would last from morning to evening with normal use, yet Apple gets nothing but praise for delivering on their 18 hour capacity which of course will diminish over time.

It is a strange world indeed.

On a side note: It seems to be the first time several of these reviewers have tried a smart watch. I find it very odd and strange when basic features every other smart watch has had since they arrived a couple of years ago obviously impresses the reviewer a lot - like he/she has never seen that done before.

I love MacRumors... but it seemingly becoming more and more pro-Apple. Headlines like "Apple Watch Fulfills Promise of All-Day Battery Life in Early Reviews" and "Apple Watch Review Roundup: The 'World's Best Smartwatch" ... makes the site feel more like a 'fanboy community', not an impartial news source.

MR is still the best for Mac news, but I just fear things may start looking a bit 'bias', and I may go elsewhere.

But it is a pro-Apple fanboy community. I don't know why anyone tries to hide it. Most people are here because they love Apple products. For the contributors of the site, the #1 rule still applies - give the people what they want.

There is clearly a line to be drawn somewhere, but to think that all reporting here will be unbiased is foolhardy.

Just finished watching the Verge review. In a nutshell....it's useless and nothing more than a toy.

Even fashion experts dismissed it and the most useful feature.....Apple Pay....which you have on your iPhone 6, so it's a $350 extension to this.

Brits sure love slating things. Try positivity - it works.

Actually, the watch expands Apple Pay capability beyond the iPhone 6, according to Apple's site:

Apple Pay is compatible with Apple Watch when paired with iPhone 5 or later.

Even to the 'umble 5c.

Way too early to claim a flop or success. My opinion... and no one really cares about anyone else's opinion but their own. What outside of the health function is this watch good for? Again its my opinion, and I am not going to knock anyone for buying one, but there is one *exception*. Just don't claim success yet... Give it at least three months.

*exception* I will laugh at and judge anyone who buys the apple watch edition. Hopefully I just don't get punched in the face for doing so... ;)

Is this a serious post?

This was always a Mac/Apple fan website. It used to be a fun community of people who loved their macs and the go to place to find help for any problems or talk about new releases. In more recent years it's become visited more and more by people who dislike Apple and has changed the whole feel of the site.
