And the next stat will be more Apple Watches in land fill in 5 years than in the history of all Swiss watch makers.

A product that lasts generations swapped for a consumer trinket that last a few years at best.

But I guess that’s what folks want
I’m Still using my gen 1 Apple Watch I got at launch and just now deciding on if I’ll get the s3 or what for a new generation in fall. This is a device that doesn’t require frequent replacements

I like my AW ok. A leather band is definitely more comfortable that fluoro-elastomer or whatever that is. Still, it’s not as essential as a phone. But this is the one Apple device that I would LOVE for them to find a way to make thinner and lighter. Somehow.

agreed. then I realized I haven’t yet paid the AW monthly carrier fee...ATT refunded my first three months before I switched to Verizon, which is not charging me the AW fee for three months.
The first year is a bargain! :p
Nice way to stick it to them. Every little bit that stays in our pockets then better.
As mentioned I feel $13.70 a month to forward a call is a bit much. Then again why isn't the technology there to sync the same number to the IMEI.

i would still have my SO if back had not fallen off.

Back a week or so ago when MacRumors posted that story detailing how to get extra battery life I followed some of the steps and it was working better. Now it has just gone completely off the rails. Anyone else have that happen? Do I have a bad battery cell now? I don't see any bulging on the underside.

It's Possible that your Apple Watch is starting to see the end of the battery life depending on when you purchased it.

Here's what I suggest:

1.) To determine the overall battery health of the Apple Watch, Apple can conduct a free battery test of the Apple Watch over the phone or in store. 80% is there grade line.

2.) As for your concerns with your battery having drain issues, try the following:

- conduct a hard reset by holding down the digital crown and power button for approximately 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.

-Once the Watch reaches the home screen, Then fully drain the battery to zero and then recharge it back to 100% percent.

Also, keep in mind if you're running a beta, that could be part of the problem. And third-party applications are a massive culprit that affect the performance of the battery with the first generation Apple Watch at times.

Saying something sells in the "X millions" or "XX millions" isn't very meaningful to me other than "that sounds like a lot". By comparing the numbers against established similar markets, it adds perspective and scale relative to those markets, even if they are quite different.

I get the correlation. Though as I see it, they're comparing Apples (pun intended) to Watermelons. I liken it to contrasting American Car sales to those of Vespa Piaggio.

I still have my S0 SS I got on launch day back in 2015!
Still going strong, worn everyday, running Watch OS4 and the battery lasts from morning to night!

...and some people said it will flop! where are they now?!

And still no couch-to-5k app with vocal coach training that’s Apple Watch centric and doesn’t require you to go running with your iPhone...

Will keep my S0 going until hopefully S4 announced in fall and will preorder without a doubt.

I don't think it's fair to compare the Apple Watch to Swiss watches, much like Apple was trying to do at it's launch. The person that is in the market for an Apple Watch is probably NOT someone in the market for a Swiss watch. They're almost two different products for two different uses. They both share the name "watch," but that's about as far as it goes.

I think the Series 3 AW is the iPhone 4 of the Watch line. It's the tipping point, where tech and functionality combine to make the product genuinely useful and attractive.

Agree... I’ve had mine for about 2 months and I’m surprised how useful it is. Love the fact that I don’t need to look for my phone when a text or call comes in.
I was sceptical but I now believe it will become as common as the smartphone. Maybe not replacing it, but an essential everyday item that can do things the phone can’t.

The only time I see Android watches are on people who look like tech enthusiasts. Apple definitely knew how to get the mainstream on board.
I’ve only seen an Android watch (was a Sumsung Gear I think) once. The person who was wearing it was walking up to use the ATM and was able to unlock the door with his watch instead of having to insert his card. Thought that was pretty neat. I assume one can do it with an AW too but I found out I can do the same with my phone and now I never whip out my card to open those doors...

I can't see I'd wear an analogue watch again. They're still popular as man-jewellery, especially the lower priced quartz Tags that can't even keep time properly.

True, it’s not an equal comparison. It’s likes comparing smartphone sales to home phone sales.

But, it’s still worthy of “a” comparison, IMO. I think it’s very interesting to see how popular Apple’s watch line is compared to every one else. Yes, one is a mini computer and another is a piece of jewelry, but they boil down to a “fashionable wrist wearable that tells time.”

It’s an interesting comparison because I’m willing to bet there are several people who wouldn’t consider owning/wearing a “regular” watch, but own an Apple one. I’m one of them.

Bragging that Apple watch is outshipping the Swiss watch industry is like Toyota gloating that it outsells the supercar makers. It's the most asinine comparison when reputed watches average in the 5 figure range. Even calling it a "watch" is ridiculous when it's primary function as a device is as a wrist worn health monitor with extra features one of which includes passively telling the time i.e. Apple Fitbit with clock.

And there are still people out there who call this a flop.

Blame the clueless tech media...

Apple withholds sales figures but says they're happy with sales and the media says it's a flop.

Amazon withholds sales of Echo sales but says they're happy with sales and the media hypes it up to be the next big thing and says it's a huge success.

Even though all indications are that AW sales (in $ terms) dwarf that of smart speakers, AW is a far better digital assistant than any smart speaker, and has far greater potential (provided Apple can figure out how to measure glucose, oxygen, etc.).

Go figure.

Who made the most money? I think this maybe a situation similar to comparing Samsung and Apple's phone volumes. One sells bazillions of cheap devices while the other sells fewer high end devices and makes more money.

Life of Apple watch: 3 years, warranty 2, unsopported in 5, obsolete in 7.
Life of a Rolex: 100 years, warranty - infinite, supported forever, always good looking.

[...] Once again, most people underestimated Apple. The first gen watch certainly had some shortcomings, but what people forget is Apple goes all-in on their products and they keep improving until they get it right.
I still use my first generation Apple Watch daily. I won't deny it's a little slow in places sometimes, but I'm absolutely delighted with it. If the device sees WatchOS 5, I'll probably hang on for the 2019 model. :)

Still with the S0. Really hoping S4 comes out this spring. I don’t think mine is going to make it much longer. Only time will tell....

Yeah but in fairness the quartz and mechanical timepieces are bought for more long term use, tell time and date but most of all jewlery pieces. Smartwatches are bought complimentary to phone functionality.

They can at least compare it with digital watches like Casio/G-Shock for more perspective if they wanted to..
