The Edition is just a JOKE going up to $17K in pricing!!! Anybody buying the Edition is either too stupid and naiv or has way too much money and in both cases deserves to get robbed of their apple watch!

Lol...I don't know about deserving to get robbed but definitely for people with money to waste. The other models should fare pretty well in the market.

What I can't wrap my mind around is why on earth am I forced to buy the "obviously" expensive link bracelet if I want a space black SS? Why is there a differencein pricing between SS and space black SS???
I seriously dig this space black shade, so frustrating -_-

Who is going to pay $500 for a cell phone. LOL
-2007

The cellphone you bought (iPhone) replaced a cellphone that you needed anyways.

Fast forward to 2015, you would still upgrade your iPhone going forward, and now tag on the expense of upgrading Apple Watch (it does not replace a phone, yet)

I think it is adorable that Apple wants consumers to pay anywhere over $500 for their watch. Even at a grand that is insane, but $10K? More money than sense I suppose. If you've got it, spend it I suppose.

Oh yeah... Just realised that.

The regular stainless steel watch doesn't look particularly nice at all.

Now I'm even less enthused! :(

A 17,000 Dollar watch MADE IN CHINA hahahahaha....

...hahahahahahahaha

This is the problem. It's completely understandable for Apple to want to sell ultra-luxury products. There are plenty of companies in this space that are selling electronics with a short-term life, such as Vertu with their over $20,000 Android phones. The difference is, they are typically exclusive, small batch and handmade. The Apple Watch on the other hand is mass produced and factory made. Mass produced watches/bands do not warrant these prices.

Now I see the SS bands mention "brushed by hand" and the small tanneries used for the leather, but for all the talk about their amazing marketing with the Apple Watch, I think they have failed miserably. They haven't done enough to showcase the exclusivity and quality of the bands to justify the price.

Right now, everyone is looking at these watches and because of the nature of Apple's position in the market, thinks these bands are all made in a Chinese factory. Whether they are or aren't isn't clear and Apple hasn't helped.

Some perspective

The apocalyptic comments that followed today's event make me LOL.

In 2001 Apple introduced the iPod, a 5GB mp3 player that cost around $400 and only worked with Macs. Eventually that turned into a pretty good business for them.

In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone, a 4GB smartphone that lacked 3G support (and basic functions like copy-and-paste) and cost $500. Over time that bet seems to have worked out okay.

Now in 2015 they’ve developed a watch that only works with iPhones (5 or newer), won’t last 24 hours without recharging, and starts at $350.

I don’t know if it'll be a smash hit and transform the industry the way the two earlier examples did, but clearly it’s not the *price* that’s going to determine its success. They know better than anyone on this board that they’ll sell only a handful of the Apple Edition models. It’s the Sport and stainless steel models that need to sell in quantity to make the product a success.

I’ll probably get one of the Sport models. I need to replace my Garmin anyway and, for me, there’s enough functionality in the accumulated features in the device that I’m intrigued enough to buy one. There’s no way the Apple Watch is going to be as successful as the iPhone, but it will only flop (I think) if it turns out that Apple’s bet is wrong and the average consumer simply doesn’t *need* a smartwatch that complements the features of their phone. In other words, if the Apple Watch flops, it will be because the whole idea of smartwatch can’t escape from being a nice product.

In the meantime they’ll continue to bring in billions in profit every quarter.

You are not the luxury market Apple is targeting with that price. This watch is for watch collectors and Apple enthusiasts buying Audemars Piguet, Tag Heuer, Bvlgari Diagono, etc. You are not the target demo.

I own a Tag and an Omega. I would never spend over $1,000 on a watch that will need to be completely replaced in 3 years. I don't get it. But I'm sure it will do well. This is the kind of watch I wouldn't spend more than $400 on.

So are all those posters who said his prediction was ridiculous and that he is just another analyst with a spotty record going to jump in here and eat crow? The image that comes to my mind is the sound of crickets chirping.

Well who wouldn't question his predictions given their asinine prices? In the end, his predictions line up, and we now believe Apple to be the asinine one.

You don't bring your phone with you on the bike? That's borderline dangerous considering how far away from civilization you can get on a bike.

No, I don't bring my phone with me when I bike or run. I never have. I've been riding a bike since 1977 when there were no mobile phones and never had an issue.

I have a bike computer on my bike but would like to use the watch to track my fitness along with my running but don't want to carry 2 devices.

iPhone 6 has gotten too big for me to be taking it running and biking anyway. I really don't want a constricting arm band with a big phone in it while I'm working out.

My whole purpose in getting a wearable would be to use it as a slimed down stand alone work out accessory that would sync to the iPhone when I get home from a ride or run as well as use it with my phone in everyday situations.

Am i missing something here the 38mm 18 carat rose gold edition with white sport case is £8000 in the UK, the 38mm 18 carat rose gold edition with rose grey modern buckle is £13500, correct me if i'm wrong but that means the buckle strap is £5500

I still want to know if I can go for a run without my phone and the watch track my steps. I know the watch needs the phone for the most part but I do not want to have my phone and the watch when I run or bike. I have not seen any solid information that supports this either way.
that's my major concern.
I'm curious about that.

You are right sir and if it not where for the fact that the 'golden' straps aren't available to purchase without the watch, they would be even more expensive to buy.

Something about fashion and a little bit of gold on them.

Pricing versus Pricing

I have been reading a lot of comments here about pricing. People are shocked at the prices and seem hellbent on telling everyone else that that prices are high, ridiculous, etc.

The funny thing, though, if you have have some money tucked away and want to spend $660-1000 for a watch that you personally like and feel it would make your life better, go and buy it.

If you are making $20k a year with mouths to feed, then this is something not in your range, yet. And why would have an iPhone 6 paying $100/month for service anyways?

An average person making $45k per year can easily afford $1000 on a watch if they choose. Hell, that is only not going out for dinner one night a month for a year to save $1000.

Will it make your life better? More meaningful? That is only up to you to decide.
