I agree with you there. If you're a guy who makes $500,000 a year doing whatever you do, and it requires the use of a "pencil/stylus" then the $100 item isn't a big deal. There are people who would like to utilize the bigger iPad screen and be able to draw with it though.. For example, kids while they're in the car so they have something to occupy them for the long ride ahead.

Of course not.

An iPad Pro as a kids toy for car journeys? I think not.

And why is that? It's a bigger iPad basically.

Maybe a kid's toy if your kids are VERY spoilt or you're a millionaire... or maybe kids could just do without, and use their BRAINS instead of being force-fed passive "entertainment" - just a thought. Bit of a waste of an iPad Pro and a LOT of money for the intended purpose, I can't imagine many people would disagree with me on this point.

Nobody said it would be their iPad, it could just be the parent's and the kids are BORROWING it for the car ride.

Besides, kids these days have iPhones at like 12 years old.

Yes, maybe they do, but that's called irresponsible parenting, and is a disgrace.

Who's claiming the watch needs to be anywhere close to the runaway hit the iPhone has been? No one!
Apple is so wealthy about the only product they rely on for income is iPhone. Apple Watch is but a small niche item that helps the company stay relevant with gadget lovers. Watch sales aren't critical to the company. Apple will keep the watch alive independent of demand.

Are you really comparing a car to a stylus?

A difference between a BMW and a go kart is much greater than the difference between a $20 stylus and a $100 stylus.

If you're using it as a drawing tool, there's a crazy difference between the Apple Pencil and previous iPad stylii. The difference is that you can use one for professional work and the others you can't. It's hard to get across if that's not your line of work, but the right tool really does make the difference. I've been paying hundreds of dollars for Wacom Intuos tablets for years and those are peripherals where there is still an abstration because you're not actually drawing on the screen. The Wacom Cintiq tablets (where you draw on a screen) start at about $1500. Both of these require a PC or Mac to work (so that's $1500 plus at least a Mac mini). The Apple Pencil with iPad Pro is the first time you can genuinely replace these and you get the added benefit of being truly portable.

Make it cheaper.

Problem solved.

Make not needing another Apple device in order to use one problem solved.

This WILL happen, but the cord that ties things to other products never helps anything long term.
In the same way propitiatory things, long term often die out.
