I prefer to like any product (Apple included) because I want to, not because some other is telling me that I should because is trendy.
Real great products speak for themselves, just look at Apple long list of successful items. iPod, iPhone, iPad, to name a few, were great even if they didn't tell you this. This watch (that may sell billions for what I care) seems to me like something (wish my English was better) thrown at customers, not shown and made available

Where's Mugatu?

It's very hard to make myself believe that this watch looks good, no matter from which side I look at it.

Apple are doing it right. They are giving the device credibility through association with the giants of fashion.

Where to begin?

I will try >

Due to recent fuglyness in design of iP6 & 6+ , and a so called "bandgate" , it is obvious that J-Ive now officially belongs with these useless, upitty, "fashion over function", "sell me a rag for a premium price" people .. whose names eludes me at the momment .... lemme try .... Lard Klagenfurt, Anne Contour Hattaway , and someone else ..

When I see him with likes of Neil DeGrasse Tyson and such , I will have iFaith again ...

PS. Mugatu is looking at a scale model of new Apple HQ.

PPS. That Anne Contour lady is so symmetrical, and thin ... all she needs are round rectangle edges , and she would be perfect !!

what? They are showing it to the paris fashion industry. They need to sell the solid gold variants through fashion and jewelry channels, not best buys.

As far as throwing at customers, who? where?

amazing isn't it. Apple no exactly how to market their stuff. Push it hard in the fashion industry and get it in magazines that tell women what to buy. (vogue, cosmopolitan etc)

samsung and others on the other hand release a watch and........ *tumble weed*

know

I do generally love Apple products, but

This picture says it all. Ive and a lot of fashion people. The watch is build on the wrong values -> fashion!

This watch is such a (long term) gimmick.

I do generally love Apple products :apple:

These are two men that are FOCUSED on design, looks, etc?

Nobody has to wear a tux,etc.... but these two appear to go out of their way to look like somebody selling watches for the dollar store.

Nah, it's not built on fashion. It's built on technology. It's wrapped in "fashion", because that's what sells. It's what many outside of geekdom respond to.

Samsung built a smart watch that completely ignored this aspect of product design and look how that worked out. This isn't so much the technologists selling out to the fashionistas, as the two sides figuring out how to grow and promote their ideas together.

Au contraire. Even though I dislike digital watches and will not buy the Apple one, I think they are doing EXACTLY the right thing to ensure its success. Watches have always been jewelry first, utility devices second ( unlike phones, computers, mp3 devices, etc..).

In fact this is exactly what Steve Jobs would have done. Someone posted this video on another thread (Steve Jobs on fashion) :

Good find. I think Apple knows what it's doing here. Cook didn't hire all those luxury fashion executives for no good reason.

Seems solid to me.

These types of devices have come in the past and relied solely on technical merit, which will only achieve success amongh tech heads, if that.

I saw so many posts on this very forum for months (maybe years) stating how their [insert expensive watch brand here] was more than a device, and was a piece of jewelery and that the apple watch could never come close to it. Jewelery is fashion. Apple marketing this as a fashion item. And people are criticising that approach.

The problem is that it can't compete with expensives watches because:

-It will be cheap
-It can't be expensive

Just talking about position.

You see?

Just like a Fiat 500 Abarth, maybe you can buy one to your wife if he doesn't care about cars but care about what's trendy, but the core of affluent people don't drive 500s Abarth

You're supposing young people are going to be able to afford a minimum-300$ toy?

Young people wear Beats headphones, no? Plus they don't have to be able to afford it, they just need parents who can. ;)

The picture with Ive and the others looks like an advert for a U.S. version of Ab Fab. It might well work out for Apple, but I find this event off putting somehow.

Real design is about serving others. Narcissists needn't apply. Indeed, the crumpled look might even be deliberate (Look! We're the unashamedly geek half of this marriage :) )
