Just a few days before the Apple Watch is available for pre-order on April 10, the device has been spotted in what seems to be its first TV appearance. The Watch, which appears to be the stainless steel version with a white sport band, is on the wrist of musical artist Pharrell Williams as he judges on NBC's singing competition show The Voice. It's likely this marks the first time a non-Apple employee wore it on national TV.

Thus far, Apple has carefully curated the Apple Watch's image and has exercised control on how the device is portrayed in media. Apple's marketing efforts have so far been split between posing the Watch as a fashion statement and fitness accessory. Williams is often known for his unique style, recently winning the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The fitness side of the Apple Watch has been promoted on the covers of fitness magazines like Fitness Magazine on the wrist of Kate Bock, Self magazine on the wrist of Candice Swanepoel and model Christy Turlington as she writes about how the Watch helps her train for a marathon on a personal blog on Apple's website. The fashion side of the Apple Watch has been on display in magazines like Vogue, Style, East Touch and YOHO. It was also shown off at an exclusive event at Parisian boutique Colette.

As the launch of the Apple Watch gets closer, and people are able to try them on within Apple Stores, it's likely the device will continue to appear on TV, magazines, billboards and more as Apple attempts to market the device to a wide variety of potential customers. The Apple Watch will be available beginning April 24, but will be available for pre-order and in-store try-ons starting April 10.

Update: Williams has also posted a brief Instagram clip of the watch in action, with the watch actually appearing to be a gold Edition model.

Looks like the white sport is the band of choice for alot of people.

For those that have Twitter blocked at work (EDIT: I see MR just updated the original article to show the picture):

Apple is being really deliberate in marketing this on fashionable people and celebrities. Pretty good move.

And a bunch of android wear watches (except 1 recently?) can't do it this way! That's how you set your product apart.

I think that in five to ten years, we're gonna look back at the 2013-2016 time period as really, really wacky.

im glad to see Pharrell back in the Apple camp. His ads for HP and Microsoft was sad to see as a fan

And it's not even powered on. Oooops, my mistake, the battery died because it's been on for more than 5 hours. He'll charge it when he gets back to his room with his power brick the size (and weight) of a, um, brick.

38mm looks really classy and sleek but I feel like the 42mm will make things a little easier on the eyes and make the targets bigger. I know exactly what I want except the size. Decisions, decisions.

I have no interest in buying it but I think it's great and I hope Apple sells a ba-zillion of them. It's a very compelling product,... I'm just not a watch person.

The display is not powered on unless you look at it, in order to conserve battery life. If they implemented this well, it's a pretty useful feature.

None of that is the reality of the Apple Watch but okay.

They have to. It's not as obviously useful as previous devices.

The Mac, iPhone, iPod and iPad are all only obviously useful in hindsight.

Just look at the MR threads after the iPod, iPhone and iPad launched. The Mac was called a toy for years and it took until Windows 3 for the GUI to be taken seriously by the masses.

Apple is targeting fashion not because of the Watch's lack of utility, but because it's a highly personal, wearable device.

This totally makes me want an Apple Watch now!

Just kidding. Still no interest in it.

And yet here you are, spending time reading (and even commenting) about it.

That I am, yes, as are others. :apple:

Great. I'll take your advice.

I have no interest in sewing machines so I think I'll find a sewing machine forum/website to let people know I'm not interested in whatever latest sewing machine model is being talked about in that world.

On second thought... Nah. You "non-interested, yet reading/commenting about it" folks just keep on with what you're doing.

I'll stick to spending my time on stuff I'm interested in.
