Make no mistake. Marketing is one of the pillars of Apple's success. They're showing why they're a marketing juggernaut in their strategy for Apple Watch. They're building up the desire for Apple Watch months before it's even available for sale. I have no doubt we'll see lineups around the block like any other Apple product.

You don't really need a GPS for running. You running in a strange place? You got lost? Nah. But without the phone, the watch will track your heart rate, the distance you ran, the calories burned, and so on. It will even play music loaded on your watch while you run, without the phone (through bluetooth headphones). Not bad.

Fashion

After all the crap we've had to listen about how folks use iPhones just because they were fashionable. After years of this stuff even though the iPhones lasted for years and worked great, and then had resale value and got the Apps first, etc. etc. No said the media and the trolls, it is all because of fashion and looking cool, that was why the phones sold.

Guys, you haven't seen Apple do fashion and "Look at me I'm cool marketing." This is Apple doing fashion and looking cool. When these things are sold out across the world on launch weekend, then you can complain about fashion and looking cool being a driving force. When the Edition watch is priced at $3,000, completely sold out, and selling in China and the Middle East on the grey market for $10,000, that will be Apple doing fashion.

Meanwhile, the folks at Pebble scramble for some sort of response:

If this quote is accurate, and there is no reason to believe it isn't:

(Even our editor-in-chief, Joyce Chang, can't wait to use her Apple Watch--check it out in our March Editor's Letter, available to download below.)

This is Exhibit A of why the Apple Watch will be a success. Can't picture a female wearing a Moto 360, for example.

On a more personal note, where's she hiding her iPhone? I'm guessing she doesn't have an iPhone 6 plus.

The article might be different - but looking at the cover image, I can't say the design looks any better or worse than any other offerings. It's not unique or any more interesting. Perhaps close up or whatnot. But this image shown (as others have pointed out) makes the watch barely noticeable.

It's very noticeable. There is no confusing it with any other watch and shows that it can match her attire. The display sets the scene as post workout.

Again, its looks great, but what does it do???

It makes you look like a gorgeous supermodel. :D

Kidding. Brilliant get by Apple. Great exposure for the watch. Just wondering which size she is wearing. I hope it's the larger one.

Sorry - I disagree. YOU might know it's an Apple Watch - but I would imagine many people looking at the cover at the news stand or even when they get the issue before opening up would have no idea it's an Apple Watch.

Further - white goes with everything. So does black. And people change outfits daily - not bands.

man they are killing the marketing of this. I didn't want one in the slightest and with every ad that comes out I am desiring to own one more and more even if it doesn't do a damn thing lol

The whole point is to get exposure for it and that's what this is doing. As will many other ad campaigns. That's how it works. If there was a Tag Heuer Monaco on her wrist many people would recognise it but many wouldn't. They might find out though if they like what they see.

Yes, white goes with a lot but she is wearing the sport band. She is clearly in workout or relaxing mode. The face in the watch tells you workout. That's why it's a good picture. The watch adds to the clues. There doesn't need to be 'Apple Watch' splashed over the screen.

I can't express how much Apple has got the smartwatch right, even with so much still unknown about the device.

What is right about this thing? What's the purpose of it? There are so many unknowns that your ridiculous claims are just so freakin....ridiculous.

Tough to get scale with a model like her. She might be 110 lbs and hence anything not cut to her small proportions is going to look small.
That said, I think the large watch is going to look too large too me. I suspect the small one is going to look better in general. At least to my tastes.
