What is right about this thing? What's the purpose of it? There are so many unknowns that your ridiculous claims are just so freakin....ridiculous.

If you had continued reading, the second sentence of my post is one thing that's right about it.

The design is right. The UI is right. The initial feature set is right. The marketing is right. I could go on. Is none of this clear to you?

If one would just look at that cover, the watch looks like many other rectangular watches. At that distance she could be holding an iPhone and you wouldn't be able to distinguish it from most other smartphones due to the lack of any detail or close up. BUT I do think that a lot of readers don't even really know much about smart watches in first place - considering the pretty low Android Gear sales figures and the so-so pebble sales - and the article itself will wake interest, especially since the story itself seems to go into more detail, the teaser on the website already shows different designs and features etc.. This is not an explicit Apple Watch standalone advertisement but a magazine cover feature with an in-depth story behind it.

We agree for once!

In fashion, function doesn't matter too much. That's why this type of advertising works for the Apple Watch. It targets the fashion mag readers who want good looking accessories. The watch actually is distinguishable when considering that it doesn't matter if this is a Samsung Gear or a Timex Pulsar. It does look like a great looking accessory with an interesting face that suits the beautiful model very well. The information on the face asks a question in what it can do which is easily answered by the attire and the sporty band.

Also, how bad are your eyes?

"the I-want-to-be-Candice quality of our new March cover"

???
Someone is in love with a generic photo and cover... How can I believe anything else they say?

Couldn't agree more . As excited as I am for the launch, that statement is ridiculous.

I have a feeling the Apple Watch is going to be next big thing for Apple and will become a huge part of their business!

The idea that you can't simply have just one design for a smartwatch (like you can with phones and tablets) is now obvious, but how many of us really thought much about this aspect pre-announcement? Who expected three lines of smartwatches?

Besides all the Samsung models, available in really different designs...

The closer thing to the Apple Watch style idea would be the Android based "I'M Watch" from fashion conscious Italy, that came out in 2012. Many colors and materials are available.

Like the later Apple Watch, it's available in three main material sets:

- The I'M sport models (available in multiple colors) sell for $250.

- The titanium models go for $900.

- Then there's the Jewel Collection, which starts at $2K for real silver, $5K - $10K for various golds, up to $20K if you add diamonds, and I hear there's a $30K+ customized model where you tell them what materials you want them to make the case and band out of.

I may not buy one, but if someone gifted me the Edition version, I wouldn't mind.

People will probably say all sorts of things about how irrelevant models and covers are, but ultimately, the Apple Watch - like any other "wearable" in general - also has to appeal to the crowd that likes pretty things (or that what they consider being "pretty"). Looks like Apple made the right hires for marketing the Apple Watch.

When you can't innovate... advertise.

They didn't need to do this with their other products, probably because they sold themselves...

It's product positioning. They put it in Self because it's a lifestyle / health product. It's not just a computerized timepiece as the name suggests. They're introducing a normally quotidian device as something more, and explaining it directly to their target. Active, health conscious people. Not sure why that's so hard to understand.

Fugly!

Model is hot, watch looks meh...

How much do you want to bet Apple goes to a completely different form factory within 2 years (and all new wrist straps as the old straps connector won't be compatible with the new form factor).

I think LG and Moto360 have way nicer form factors, and neptune-duo looks cool (not sure if it will go anywhere).

I find my self more eager to try the apple watch though, and I'm semi excited now. I'll eventually get one, but with my luck i'll get one and the next generation will be completely different.

Actually, the magazines they are advertising in are all for women.  is listing the watch as a fashion accessory now and I don't know many men that read Self or Vogue or whatever other rag  is advertising in. Additionally, you only see women wearing this watch.

I also happen to be of the opinion that the  Watch is very feminine looking, so maybe this was the direction  planned to go all along? So, their target actually seems to be active, health oriented women, not people in general.

All hype. Poor battery life and now rumors of less sensors. I guess it's meant for fashion. It will just look good but functionality will be the downfall.

??? Apple does lots of advertising. They basically invented the modern Super Bowl ad.

this directly contradicts the recent 'has no health or heart sensor' threads around here.

Another one who didn't get what these articles were on about. Wonder how many others are out there!!

Let me explain. On the initial Apple Watch project allegedly there were lot more sensor's planed for all sorts of health monitoring (like sugar and stress levels) but they were scraped for the first version due to not working quite well. Nothing have been drooped from the time it was announced, you will still get what was presented on September.

Still looks like the Casio calculator watch I had at school in the 80s.

Exactly my thoughts. Surprisingly they are both square!!

Where does she keep her iphone?

In her car or at home because she doesn't need it to effing run.

----------

At her home. At her car. Anywhere! It doesn't matter. You don't have to have the iPhone on you to be wearing and Apple Watch.
I really don't understand why people keep asking where the phone is. It's mind boggling.

Would you consider your iPhone poor battery life? Or your MacBook Air assuming you have either? Because Cook has said you'll need to charge the watch every day. Just like an iPhone and MBA (if used frequently, of course)

I'll bet you a million dollars they won't change to a circle watch. Ive himself said a circular form factor isn't practical when the watch primarily shows lists in the UI, to which I agree.

Maybe, Apple also said that 4 inch screen was the ideal size for a phone..... But I think you are right. I can see it getting wider and longer like the neptune duo...

I can honestly say the Apple Watch is almost as ugly as the Pebble. That crown... that thickenss... are you kidding me?
