My first thought is that now it's not as rectangular as before.

Maybe they're going to also offer a round version.

(Tim Cook seems to be on an "If others have something that sells, let's sell it too" kick.)

Ah, so that's why the iPhone 6 plus comes with a stylus and the iPad a keyboard. ;)

lol Ok, Rog. Very cute. :)

I mean, like the iPad mini, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and all the iOS changes to make it more appealing to those who might choose a competing device.

And btw, yes sir, I think a built-in high resolution iPad pen would be very popular with designers, artists, students!

The issue is that they knew the size of the screen many months ago, and intentionally lied about it in the initial promo video to make the design seem more functional than it really is. It's an old trick they've done to a lesser extent with iPhones and Macs in the past (usually hiding the black border around the illuminated pixels but inside the physical bezel).

They lied. Accept it.

I don't recall Apple giving screen dimensions during the keynote...

I think there is a considerable difference between a dollar menu hamburger, and a $500+ watch

But the watch isn't currently for sale and Apple hasn't provided any display dimensions. Plus they corrected the offending materials. So really this is much ado about nothing, IMO.

Do you *actually* believe that they accidentally showed a 30% or so smaller bezel in the initial video that got most people exited? Do you really think they put that little attention to detail into their promotion video introducing the most hyped device in almost a decade? If you really believe that, you have a strange concept of reality.

Good god who the hell cares about small or big bezel and size of screen?
This is a watch not a TV.

So do you also want to ban Burger King, McDonald's, etc. from displaying perfectly assembled burgers and instead show the ones thrown together sloppily like in real life?

I don't know about the assembly, but I expect the actual burger to look appetizing.

No wonder McDonald's sales are down in Europe and the US.

I have to smile at your lack of grasping this aspect.

You are saying who cares about the bezel or size of a screen on a watch that's whole manner of working and allowing you to see anything is the screen?

:D

The Screen 'IS' the watch.
It's a screen in a case with a strap, pretending it's a watch.

To be honest I never really paid attention to the bezel when watching the keynote. The interface is mostly black so the bezels fade into the background most the time. What good does it do right now for Apple to make the bezels look smaller than they really are? Nobody can buy the device and by the time they are able to purchase one they'll know exactly what the screen dimensions are along with a lot of other technical information.

Yes and most of the interface has a black background so the bezels are less noticible. Anyway I'm sure if Apple could get away with no bezels they would. I'm sure one of the reasons the interface is dark is to hide them as much as possible. I have to say I perfer it to the mostly white interface of Android Wear.

Your post is a joke.

This is a watch.
Nobody will be watching a movie or playing games or reading more than a few lines of text.
Unless you are old and nearly blind, a small difference in size of the screen does not matter AT ALL.

38mm vs 42mm version will likely feature different sizes of screen.
Nobody cares about the size of the screen.
It's about how large the watch looks on the wrist.

You mean, you prefer the dark UI on the Apple Watch to the mostly bright white interface of iOS these days :)

It's funny, we predicted that the "new flat look" of iOS was going to be light because Android's new look at the time was dark.

Then when Android went light on its watch, Apple had no choice but to go dark on theirs!

Ying and yang.

Is there something wrong with you?

The screen IS the watch, or course the size of the screen matters.

I'm not saying the screen needs to be large on the device so you can watch a movie! The screen IS the entire way you see the watch, use the apps, read the text, tap on icons on the screen.

Or course you want to have a screen be as large as it can be on the device.

Ideally there would be no bezel so you can maximize the viewable and usable are on any given watch size!

Of course it matters.

What are you suggesting, shrink the screen down to 10mm x 10mm ?

:p

As for what you are predicting people are going to be doing on their watch.

Did you see the keynote?

Apple have not made this device to just give you a few lines of text, of the odd notification, they are opening it up to app developers.

You REALLY think we are not going to see Angry Birds on the Watch do you ?

Yes I prefer dark to light (except not Windows phone implementation). I hope a dark mode comes to iOS some day though I don't know how feasible that is with the current display technology they use. Battery life is paramount. Going dark on the watch and attempting to hide the bezel as much as possible was a good idea. I wouldn't be surprised if there are Yosemite and Watch UI influences in the next major iOS release. I think the white will get toned down a bit.

If you want to complain about bezels there are much worse examples than Watch.

In this case LG is hiding the bezel behind a rim around the watch that displays seconds. Of course that rim makes zero sense when you're not displaying an analog face. But because its hardware its always there no matter what is being displayed.

I agree, Apple has the right to change it, and it will be the consumer's decision come february when it comes out whether or not to make the purchase. I just think its a little bit extreme to compare something intended to be cheap to something expensive, other than that I agree with you.

Nice find! Extremely lame of Apple to try and dupe consumers like this.

Who have they duped? No one can buy this product right now. Apple has offered up very few if any specs like screen size. By the time this product is available for sale everyone will know exactly what the screen dimensions are, how much storage it has, what the battery life is etc.

I just think you are a very rude and insulting person who thinks they know everything.
Piggie, your posts reveal a substantial lack of understanding of the watch industry and a willingness to rant authoritatively about a product where you have only the tech perspective and not the luxury / fashion one. The entire fashion watch industry is predicated on selling a product for hundreds or thousands of dollars that does its job worse than a 10 dollar quartz from China. Thinner bezels and engineering challenges are only a few of many variables.

Oh I know it's all a created thing.
It was just silly hearing someone saying that all the watches in the big stores they are selling probably thousands or tens of thousands a day, normal every day moderately priced from say 20 to 100 dollars, that no one if buying that junk.
When of course they are, as most people who buy a watch, just buy a reasonably priced watch they think looks ok that does the job.

I understand this is not the market for Apple, but it's stupid to deny average people are buying basic watches all day every day.

The sport watch will compete on a utility, technology and fashion basis with lower end watches. Going higher end, we're going to see Apple take on the unprecedented task of selling impermanent technology at high end luxury prices. I'm not sure how they are planning on solving that problem, but it will be interesting to see.

If I'm honest, and the more I think about it.

The Apple watch will look and work great as a sports watch, with some health monitoring.

The Apple watch will work fine for general folks, those who love their tech, and playing with the latest gadgets.

As the the upper end, Breitling, Rolex, amongst other brands, and fancy dinner parties, I think it will be an utter joke and an embarrassment to be seen wearing the toy from Apple.

that may seem harsh, but its a cheap gadget pretending to be a real quality item and no amount of gold wrapped around the 350 dollar watch is going to change that, no matter how many Paris trips jony makes.

I can just imagine sitting around drinking champagne, waiting for the lobster to be served. Immaculate high end suits and dresses, the women with stunning diamonds, and the guys clean cut with their hand crafted swiss timepieces, and you pull out your gold Apple watch and start playing with the icons.

Sorry, it really does not make a great picture in my mind.

for sports, and techies, and typical people who want the latest thing, sure, but I think it's going to have to be a LOT more special and exclusive to even put a dink into anything upper end. Even if it had a gold bar hanging from it.

I'm not putting it down, or saying it bad, or wrong, or anything.
I just feel it should 'Know it's place'
A nice, but still mass produced consumer item for the masses.

But they can try spending money to try make it seen as a high end product if they want.

I suppose it feels like a Subaru Impretsa in a gold case.
No amount of Gold and fancy electronics and sales pitch's is going to make it a Bentley, Jaguar, Daimler, Rolls, etc etc

Well, there is quite a large black bezel around the screen unfortunately.
And as Apple uses renderings on their web site, not real photo's I guess it's easy to, kinda have mistakes slip thru that may make things look better than reality.

Actually there was a video made a while back about the production of Apple's product images and they do actually stem from real life photos. They're just meticulously edited and enhanced to make the product look 'flawless'. Also, any screens are super imposed because you can't really make a digital screen look good on a photo.

I have to agree. I think the high end gold plated Edition is gonna be a massive mistake by Apple. Nobody saw it coming because nobody thinks it's necessary. With some of the possible prices that have been quoted, I can't see Apple selling many of those.
