I honestly think that Apple messed up with the order in which the watches were shipped out. I think they thought no one would notice; I mean, how would so many people find out that someone who ordered after them received their watch first? I doubt they banked on MacRumors having 2500 comments of people doing that exact thing. Without places like this, we'd have no clue.

Very true. It's just weird that their systems wouldn't list orders in order. Lol. I could see some leapfrogging during freight prep and adding to pallets, etc. but your example is eye-opening to the mishandling of this product launch.

Yep. I posted again saying that I was wrong about the order numbers being sequential. As you said though, they are not being shipped in the order the orders were placed. My guess is it must have something to do with the geographical location, but nobody knows for sure. Well, at least no one here knows for sure.

I'm honestly more worried about my wifes watch. I ordered her the 38 pink sports watch. She is sooooooo excited to get this watch it's crazy! I'd hate to get mine next week and her have to wait weeks to get hers. With the complete lack of anything happening with the pink Sports watches, there's a good chance that will happen. I'll get mine soon enough and I'd rather her get hers first if I could make that happen.

You know what? I bet they are taking all of those pink bands and dying them black! THAT is what is taking so long! :p

Ladies an gentleman, truer words have never been spoken... this man knows what marriage is and will stay married.

Another example would be

Honey can I get an apple watch?
NO!
What if I get you one too?
...ok

In both situations, the man is prepared for any/every thing.

Just chatted with an apple rep and they said mines still at the warehouse which they said is in the U.S. And waiting to to got to a distributor. They didn't know anything else so I have no idea when this thing will arrive.

Very true so order numbers aren't sequential. You're a perfect example of "WTF is going on"? Any theories since you have proof of later orders being pushed ahead of your identical order?

At least in the case of the June -> April one I saw that was certainly identical to mine, I've thought they could have done something on their supply chain where they realized they weren't going to be quite as constrained as they initially thought, so they updated a handful of orders in June to ship sooner so that those customers wouldn't have to wait as long... but still doesn't make sense why they didn't just put them into May instead of right into the Apr. 24th window with a 'Preparing for shipping' status.

I get how supply chains work, so I'm not surprised at all by some of the other models shipping earlier, etc. But what doesn't make sense is why there are so many people with the same models (particularly the 42mm SG/Black) that ordered in the first 5 minutes with the first delivery window of preorder being open that have seen *nothing* at all... when there are quite a few that seem to be getting charged and shipped that ordered after them.

A techie friend of mine said "i wouldn't ever get married. I can't buy iPhones at launch, new xbox or Playstation models. I can't buy game chairs for the living room, or projectors for my bedroom. I can't buy an iMac and a Macbook Air."

I said, "sure you can. Back when I was making money, I certainly did."

He said, "how? Harper must be really dorky too."

I said, "Marriage is not buying less of the things you love... its having to buy two of them."

Ha! You might be on to something there!

Great point. It would make sense that if supply opened up that they would ship all April orders and update May to April, June to May, etc. everyone would be happy. I think you're on to something here and the dept. responsible for prioritizing shipments dropped the ball.

Does UPS deliver on Saturday? I am not worry about getting mine tomorrow, but getting sometime between saturday and monday!

I believe they do to residences and they or fedex even do Sunday deliveries. There is still hope!!

good, so if these many watches have been arriving at UPS central in hours, tomorrow hopefully we will be charged with ship date to saturday =D

Absolutely. The ship date window of 4/24-5/8 is any day they deliver in that window. Fingers crossed for all of us.

I feel like this is jury duty, everyone here is awesome but let's get this done and move on!!

I have been pondering this all week. I know, i know, thinking, will get me in trouble, anyway the rhyme and reason of the watches shipping is not making sense. Especially since later orders are skipping ahead and shipping. My question would be does apple have a ranking system for orders. Not by time of order received but they set up windows for delivery in three spaces (24th thru 8th, 4-6 weeks, and june, some july too. But does apple consider things like prior customers? Prior itunes purchases? Do they have a program used to keep from sending to people first that may resell or maybe they send to people that will resell. Keeping a buzz about a product. Its a different style launch for Apple with no in store purchases. And I have read this is permanent. Apple does not want us standing in line for products. Something else they seemed to want to push people toward using the App. I seen reports of people saying the website didn't work for over 30 minutes (i think its false) but I seem to remember trying the website 10 minutes after opening and getting right in out of curiosity. (i used the app for my purchases) Just a thought, but if I was a betting man i would say apple has had this planned meticulously. I know i for one was searching google for apple watch shipping confirmation as early as thurs-friday last week. All this madness feels planned to me.

Fingers crossed that the 5 planes headed to Louisville are carrying a crap ton of 42mm Stainless with black sports bands and anything with a pink band. They should arrive a little after midnight east coast time. ;)

There also seems to be a plane headed toward Ontario California

Here's my best guess as to why the orders are not actually being shipped in order the order was taken:

Anyone that has pre-ordered an iPhone in the past knows that the shipping notifications and tracking starts in China, not Louisville. My guess is that Apple made a deal with UPS this time around that UPS will decide who gets shipped the watches in each batch (but they probably have to stick to the order wave).

It's clear that UPS is deciding where the watches that arrive in these batches are going. They apparently are tied into the billing system so that when they scan a watch delivery Apple will charge the card and the ball starts rolling.

Now, as an example, lets say UPS gets a batch of 50,000 42 SG Black watches. They need to deliver 40,000 to Texas, which is the largest number for a state in that batch. UPS is taking 40,000 of those watches and shipping them to Texas. They'll find the next state that's closes to 10,000 (the remaining watches in that batch) and ship to that state. This would cut costs for UPS a lot! If it were truly in order the order was received, I'm sure that 50,000 batch would go to 50 states. That's at least 50 flights compared to just 2.

I could be completely wrong, obviously, but I bet that's what's happening and would explain why they are not being shipped in the order the orders were actually received. As long as they stay in the same "wave" of orders, it shouldn't cause too much of a difference and they save a lot of $$$ for shipping costs (Apple and UPS).

This. There haven't been that many SS confirmations. If it's another shipment of aluminum, I'll be disappointed but will move on and not stress anymore after 4/24.

Very interesting idea and you're right, my iPhone's have been tracked from China in the past. Since Apple offers "free delivery", they may have a contract with UPS for a fixed amount and UPS amongst other carriers are finding ways to make it as cost effective as possible.

So aluminum comes in a long thin box and SS comes in a square box. Cool!
