Have you checked whether your watch comes up as duplicate devices in Settings under Health app and then Devices. Mine comes up as two devices: 1 paired but has no data, 1 unpaired but has all of the active data. I think it’s either a hardware issue that they missed because only few people have this issue or a communication issue that is software related. When there are two devices showing that means the watch has issues communicating with the phone and it can drain the battery.View attachment 875711

I had this problem back when I owned my old Series 3 and then ended up resolving with software updates. Now with my new Series 5 the same problem happens. Even if you just saw one watch connected, over time it would appear this second watch. I have restored, unpaired, re-paired multiple times and the same issue appears. In my case though, although battery life is not the best for sure in series 5, I have a drain of about 2-4% per hour which is not bad at all. I have everything on besides “Hey Siri” and some “control” over the background app refresh. I sleep with my watch for sleep tracking with autosleep but my watch would be with no bluetooh connection, then in the morning I turn everything back on and I’m down to around 90% battery at the beginning of my morning. If I do a swimming workout the battery would drain around 10% and at the end of the day I have around 35-40% battery left. This seems super hard to track as everyone has a different experience. What I can really say about this year’s software releases is that they don’t have the quality we used to see in the past...I know there are tons of processes and new features every single OS release. Just my two cents.

Exactly what is the norm as to what battery life to expect? I wear my series 4 all day and night and charge it during morning routine before work. I typically have 45% remaining when I place it on the charger.

I have a similar routine to you, but I charge my S4 to full just before going to bed and wear all night (for sleep tracking) and then all day. Typically I will also be at 45%. This is on days without any workouts. If I do a few workouts then it would typically be slightly lower, depending on the type of workout.

I have had series 1,3 and 2 series 5s - 1 and 3 were great more than a day with notifications on and background refresh on. series 3 with OS6 was diabolical. 12 hours max with very light usage and no workout.
I got a 5 and took it back after 10 days - it would not exceed 12 hours - with noise off, walkie talkie off, notifications off, background refresh off, always on display off, wrist detection off. I was only using the watch to record sleep and was using tap to view the time. Very light usage. only 3 apps installed. I took it back and got a replacement - this coincided with release 6.0.1 so hard to compare back to 6. This watch shows similar characteristics as the first series 5 - I have tried wrist detect and always on and find very little difference. If I unpair and repair as a new watch I can get 20 hours with everything off but 3 or 4 days later I am back down to 12-14 hours maximum.
One thing I notice is my usage and standby are usually about the same when the power drain is down to 12 or 14 hours.
I have uploaded 4 screen shots 0231 and 0232 are after a repairing exercise. Watch was charged and put on wrist at 23:00 approximately - see usage and standby times and battery usage 20% this is excellent.
But 0225 and 0224 show the more usual story 60% battery drain in under 9 hours but note the usage is the same as the standby so something is running flat out on the watch but as I have already said everything is turned off except refresh on the apps that are on the watch face which can't be turned off. always on display was turned off all night to get to this state.

something is running constantly after the watch has been on for a couple of days.

Last apple product I buy unless they get this sorted soon.

i think i posted this upthread but for the first week - 10 days my series 5 battery life was terrible. i think this is because it's "busy" in the days immediately after pairing. last week, about 2 months in, with "always on" display off, i managed about 2.5 days with charging ~15 minutes per day.

on a lark i turned the always on screen back on and i got about 1.5 days that way. so i think i'll be turning that off again.

anyway, i'd let it go for a couple of weeks and see if it improves.

edit: i guess i should also say there have been a couple of software updates since i got the watch; it is possible they made some bugfixes...

I don't have AW5, but my 4's battery life has - no question - suffered greatly since OS6.

Seems silly I have to do this, I got one of these for Xmas and it's in my car. I still love the watch, the look of it...not about to sell it and take a massive loss compared to what I paid for it. It is what it is I guess.
