I'll never feel a $ 10,000 or $ 17,000 impulse buy coming on!

Maybe you're neiter Chinese nor a tourist then :p Both are a blessing to our economy.

Galeries Lafayette is beautiful though - worth a stroll alone. And watching those Chinese going all nuts in front of LV is remarkable. Wouldn't shop there myself either - totally overpriced although some nice items are indeed gorgeous (mostly for females).Their decor around Christmas is a looker though.

Men's department isn't even in that bulding but in the ugly annex*. :D

*...and a total waste of time imo.

THIS. You MUST go there if you're on a Christmas vacation. But then, everybody knows this. It's tradition, in Paris, to go see the animatronics in the windows. I used to go every Christmas.
B-but, they have nice manbags in the Yves Saint-Laurent department... :D

True. I wasn't checking those out though - no way am I standing in line with a couple of 18-20yo taking selfies.. :D

Nice habit going there each Christmas though. It's total (commercial) overkill but I love it as well.

the Apple bubble is popping. Please Apple focus on core business.
They are. They don't make Apple Edition Watches anymore so why would they continue to support a pop-up shop that caters to those high end clients. They are focusing more on health and lifestyle now. Their core business changes every 5-10 years and the iPhone has peaked. What else do you think they should focus on that they haven't already?

I never thought of that, but I hate pop-up shops and I was randomly walking in a mall or shopping center and saw an Apple table selling watches to the side, I'd be highly skeptical.

These aren't the type in the corridors of malls, kiosk-style places, but are inside high end stores, near the department of that store that they would be in anyway. You can kind of think of them as store-within-a-store, except that they are very small, so I guess that's why they called them pop-up. But I don't get the impression there would be any confusion about the authenticity of them, they're not like those little kiosks selling cell phone cases and sunglasses.

Now Apple Watch models are available at Dicks. What a huge change. Anyway I love my Apple Watch.
No it isn't. This was for the gold watches. Best Buy and others had the normal Apple watches.

They still have a high end watch they could try to sell there plus higher end macbooks. The new one though is 10x less costly. Nevertheless it probably will not sell well even now that the high end is 1/10 less of the price.

It's definitely something you don't buy on the fly. I've had mine since August 2015 and I have to tell you, it's sick. I was just on the road for business and checked into all of my flights using my watch. Too easy.

Never understood the value of the more expensive watches since it's a technology device that will improve over time. It's not like a timeless watch piece that is pretty much been the same since inception. I like my Apple Watch though and might consider upgrading every other release.

I think Apple was trying to marry tech and fashion, and it’s a unique proposition given that Apple seems to be the best company to do that. It doesn’t seem to be working too well, so perhaps tech + fashion isn’t really a thing.
They still have the Hermès, which sold well enough to warrant inclusion with the Series 2.

A little check of reality there for Apple in regards to Apple Watch Edition.
It was a low-risk experiment and helped get them some attention. Remember all the rumors about Apple patenting some special sort of ceramic gold alloy? My guess is that in the process they decided ceramic is a good material to work with.

Like iPhones?

;)

I have an Apple Watch. I like it. I don't see much point in pop-up shops in high-end shopping areas to sell Apple Watches, though. I mean, I am guessing that they had reasonable sales back when people could buy an Edition and feel like they had something that the average person could not afford. People who drop 20k on a whim are really not concerned with whether their 20k impulse buy is state of the art this year. But, with the Edition now being less expensive than the most expensive SS Hermes, what is really the point in trying to sell this device in luxury shops?
[doublepost=1477056320][/doublepost]

That was the 38MM SS Link. Which, let's be honest, never had a huge audience anyway because it was more of a masculine look and more men went with the 42MM version of the same watch. BB didn't reduce the price on the Milanese Loop watch by much, but that one was more popular. I do think that Apple didn't sell as many watches as they hoped, but they never would've gotten to the S1/S2 watches if they'd had dismal sales.

I actually bought a 42mm Space Black stainless steel Apple Watch with black milanese loop for $249 from Best Buy exactly 1 month ago. Pretty sure that didn't last long though...

Yup, Apple failed to show how it can be on the same footing as a Rolex or other high end product (it really isn't) and while apple had mentioned the fitness aspect in originally, it appears they're going all in on the fitness/health portion now.
At the same time, they still offer the stainless steel and Hermès watches. I always thought the most threatened category was the $500-1000 "mall watch" (e.g. Movado). For about the same price you get a watch plus all the fitness features, and with the Hermès you get top-quality leather.

What, too few fools parting with their money... Maybe there is a future for us all.

Still, it's only showing the truth. If you need to go to a quiet place in an Apple store, go to a watch table.

I couldn't even get to the watch table in the store near me because of the crowd. I feel like you haven't actually seen the watch table...

Fashion and Luxury was the most ridiculous idea out of Apple. Job's is rolling over in his grave. Apple stores are suppose to be inviting, non-intimidating to the average person, easy to navigate, and encourage customers to touch. "Make Apple Great Again!"

Uh... I think you might be confusing Galeries Lafayette with Wallmart...

Nope. I'm comparing pop-up shops with pop-up shops. Wal Mart doesn't have pop-up shops... they're an equivalent of the actual Apple Store... you know you're in a Wal Mart because you entered the doors... pop-up shops have no doors or defining walls.

I suppose I could justify a "conventional" $15K watch if it was going to run forever and I could hand it down to my grandchildren but the :apple:Watch tech obsoletes in a couple/few years and at that point the worth is only in the metal, which if melted down would be far less than $15K. Thus even if I had the bucks and considered $15K an impulse buy the practical side of my brain says that is just a bad deal.
